Hey /k/,

For years i've been wanting to get a handgun.

I want my first to be a 9mm.

Can't decide which. For a while I was leaning towards a glock 19 since it is so highly recommended by so many folks. (Hickok45)

But all my friends have differing opinions.

My list ATM of guns I am deciding between but haven't held yet are;

1. Glock 19
2. Cz75 Full size or Compact (15rd limit in NJ)
3. Sig P320

Why would I choose Glock 19 over p320. For me so far I hear glock 19 has lower bore axis so it may have lower recoil? Also mags are cheaper and perfect size for my state.

I love the look of cz75 and glock but the p320 looks kinda ugly to me. However I like the idea of caliber switching.

Any suggestions I am pretty much open to anything as I still have a month or two before my handgun purchasers card even arrives.

If its going to be a carry gun, G19. If its a range pistol, CZ-75.

I prefer my Glock 19 to my Sig SP2022, The recoil doesn't feel quite as snappy. Either one is quite adequate though. Never shot the P320, I too think it's ugly.
>>
>>30596944
>Why would I choose Glock 19 over p320.

It's 0.3 inches thinner in width. A consideration if you're looking for the thinner gun for cc.

>glock 19 has lower bore axis so it may have lower recoil?

This is such complete hogshit and I'm genuinely saddened how /k/ perpetuates this high bore axis meme.

High bore axis doesn't do jack shit to a gun. It's funny, nobody ever mentions the 1911 having a high bore axis yet it's considered to be an extremely shootable gun. It's a complete non issue. The majority of /k/ is fucking awful at shooting at speed still they make a big fucking deal out of "high bore axis".

>>
>>30596972
I like cz75 but 15rd mags aren't standard. I'd have to order the shitty 10 rd version or the compact.
>>
>>30596944
Higher bore axis creates more muzzle flip, however it doesn't really make a difference.
Most likely, you're not going to be switching calibers with the P320.
The P320 has a better trigger out of the box and feels much nicer in my experience but
if you think the P320 is ugly, I wouldn't buy it, don't buy a gun if it isn't appealing to you.

They do have different size grip modules. All P320's first come with the medium size grip and then you can purchase the smaller grip.

How does compact Cz compare to full size?

CZ sells 15rd mags on their site but they don't seem to offer a NJ based hi-cap model that has 15 rounders.

Are Glock stock sights really as shitty as folks say?
>>
>>30597163
they're roughly the same size.
>>
>>30597163
>How does compact Cz compare to full size?
slightly more recoil. not as compact as you really want in a ccw gun. you can still carry it but its on the line of comfortable and uncomfortable. you can do it but better options exist.
>Are Glock stock sights really as shitty as folks say?
no
they are perfectly usable unless you decide to use the plastic sights as a hammer after dragging the gun down 100 feet of highway
>>
>>30597163
If you want a CCW CZ, you should look into the RAMI or the CZ-83
>>
>>30597231
Once again this will just be a range gun/learning to shoot.
>>
Consider the m&p 9. Full sized or compact. I carry the FS every day and love every second of it. Do much that I sold my 19 to make my m&p a full time carry gun

Meanwhile, top competitors still advocate and demonstrate the advantages of a lower bore axis. And everyone's plenty happy to talk about why the AR15 is so great with its in-line recoil forces. Or even the goddamn Chiappa Rhino for an extreme example of low bore axis being beneficial.

Strongly recommend shooting both before buying. Go to a range that has rentals and try them. I rented every 9mm my local range had before buying. It was a toss up between an HK P30 and a CZ75, and the price tags decided that for me.

That being said..

I love my CZ75B and it's a gun I'm not selling, ever, if I can help it. Just didn't enjoy shooting the Glock. Though, for all that the slogan is "Glock Perfection", there sure are a LOT of aftermarket parts to improve on perfection..

FWIW though, some people LOVE the Glock Grip - I'm just one of the minority where absolutely everything about the grip/weight rubs me the wrong way.

Pic related. This CZ has been my EDC since 2014. The hogue grips are a huge improvement over the factory grips, imo. Sorry for potato quality, no access to a better camera atm.

Man I love the appearance of all CZ75 pistols but fucking 16 round default mag size fucks my state.

I guess I could get 10 rd and just buy a bunch of promag 15rd or factory ones.

What I dont understand is that CZ has factory 15rd magazines but doesn't offer a pistol with them standard for ban states.
>>

Try out a few, seriously. At least go to a gunshop and hold them in your hands for a while.
I´d personally prefer the CZ75.

My glock 19 has over 6,000 rounds through it without a single hiccup. I would trust it over any of the other funs you mentioned IMO.

You don't say whether you'll be CC or not, but I'll assume you are. I can comment on a few that I carry:

Glock 30 - It's a .45. 10+1. Decently small, if a little blocky (hey, it's a Glock.) Accurate. This is my second most carried. I do love it, but I wish it had a thumb/slide safety. I don't feel comfortable carrying it with one in the chamber with just the trigger "safety," and I don't feel great carrying it without one in the chamber, either. You can read volumes about Glock trigger safeties - the bottom line is they are good guns, and you won't have to muck about with a thumb/slide safety, but you have to get used to no "real" safety and a light trigger pull if you aren't. Not forgiving of mistakes, those Glocks.

S&W Airweight Model 642 - My favorite for CC. .38 hammerless. Slides right into my pocket with a Desantis Nemesis holster, almost no printing. Ready in an instant. Like most revolvers, no safety but a strong trigger pull in double action makes that moot. On-the-fly accuracy is what you'd expect from a snubnose but I'm not planning on 50 yard shots anyway. 5 rounds is a bit of a drag, but the plus is I can quickly throw this in my shorts pocket running to the gas station.

Beretta 92FS - I wish I could find a convenient way to CC this every day. It's fairly large, but it's one of the smoothest handguns I've ever shot. 15 rounds of 9mm standard mags. Accurate, balanced, feels great. Ends up being not carried much except in winter when it's easier to conceal, or when I'm not switching between sitting and standing often.

S&W 686 - .357, 6 shot, 6" barrel. Not the most concealable to be sure. But - it's extremely accurate, well balanced, feels great in the hand. In my state, OC is allowed when hunting, fishing, or camping, and that's usually when I carry this. As a plus, OC with a revolver doesn't startle the vacationing family that might stumble on me fishing or camping as much as a semiauto can.

While you are at the fun store handle a walther PPQ. I never really took notice in them till i held one, then i fell in love. The ergonomics and trigger and amazing.
>>
>>30596944
I suggest you handle them and maybe even try them before deciding.

The Glock is popular, but it's not for everyone, some people don't like the ergos or trigger.

If it's your first pistol, I'll suggest a full sized one, it's easier to learn with.

I like how the CZ75 feels and handles, I'm a big fan of DA/SA pistols and metal frames, but you might not, and you should try it before buying.

>>30596972
The CZ75 is available as a compact.

>>30597031
Bore axis DOES matter, ever shot a Mauser C96? It flips like shit.
The difference isn't usually noticeable in most pistols these days, but it sure as shit is an actual thing, some pistols don't balance as well in some people's hands.

>>30597050
Good pistols, but for some people it's too big for their hands. Also with a 15rd limit you're not getting the full potential of it, justifying it's size; flush fitting 18rd mags.
>>
>>30598858
I will have to molest them at the gunstore.

Any solution for 15rd magazine problem on CZ?
>>
>>30598858
>Bore axis DOES matter, ever shot a Mauser C96? It flips like shit.

This guy is seriously comparing the ergonomics to the C96 and a modern polymer handgun.

For the CZ-75? Regular 15rd flush fitting mags should be commonly available, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I provided it as an example, if you fucking read what I typed you'd see that my point was that bore axis makes a difference and can make the difference for how a gun feels for a person.

Im asking should I get the actual name brand ones or will promags function fine?

Is $40 normal to pay for a handgun mag? Why are Glock mags so fucking cheap?

I couldn't actually tell you why Glock magazines are so cheap, but they do work great. I'm guessing it's the lower cost of polymer.

As for ProMag, avoid this brand, almost everything that's made under this label is worthless junk, they sometimes work briefly but they're often made with cheap and weak plastic, they usually wear out fast and stop working properly, the only thing I'd buy a ProMag for is to practice clearing feeding jams

What a mag costs kind of depends on brand and ubiquity, $40 isn't outside the realms of reality, but see if you can find the same product for cheaper online.
MecGar is a good brand, to the point that they officially make Beretta's pistol magazines now, but aside from that, factory CZ magazines are already pretty good, and you're limited to your 15rd mags, which is kind of oldschool for the CZ75 (but by no means bad, it's still more than twice the average revolver), finding old 15rd CZ mags in alright condition shouldn't be hard.
>>
>>30599863
>I provided it as an example

And it's a pretty fucking bad one. A C96 is unable to accomodate the similar grip you can use on a modern handgun.

Next time, please refrain from talking out of your ass when there's more experienced people discussing a certain topic you know nothing about.
>>
>>30597163
Glock sights are fine. Just gotta get used to them
>>
>>30597163
As with all things Glock, it's a matter of taste, they're alright or good for a lot of people, but you might not like them very much.
>>
>>30600952
>Is $40 normal to pay for a handgun mag? Why are Glock mags so fucking cheap?

Economy of scale. Same reason ARs are so much cheaper than other semiauto rifles.

There are more Glock mags being produced than the next 5 most popular brands combined.

God I would never be able to shoot this gun.

Does cz do any regular blued cz75?

How strong is "Paint" finish?
>>
>>30602565
I don't actually know if CZ does the CZ75 in blued these days.

The paint finish should hold up, but if you don't like it, you could get a gunsmith to strip the finish and have it proper blued or cerakote'd (very strong ceramic 'paint', pic related is a 'tungsten' colored one, there exist faux blued cerakote finishes too, but mind you, this isn't free)

The pistol in that picture is just a stainless gun, except it's been given a very thourough polish to look really shiny, people will sometimes do that to old stainless 1911s and Colt Pythons.
