So I got offered an awesome position and a greencard to move to the US, however it is California or nothing for the first 5 years :(

seeming that in Australia we are practically limited to bolt/lever/pump actions this is still an awesome step up...then later on I can move to real freedom land

so I need information from a commiefornian

first, where is the best place to buy ammo? I remember being there and we purchased ammo at a range for 80c/r of .223 which when you are an Australian starved of semi auto's...was really damn expensive...really damn quick

can you mail order ammo in california? and from where?

also what are the rules specifically in LA, I know carry is off the table, but I'm used to that anyway living in a pretty shitty part of Melbourne

I'll be looking at buying a 10/22, Ares SCR (I assume those are still legal) and an M1a for longer range stuff (yeah, it's not a precision rifle, but I've owned precision bolt actions here)
and then a 1911 because of the mag capacity and I've always wanted one

>TL;DR blog post on moving to freedom land and pretty bloody excited

(I will miss my V8 Holden ute though but I'll probably go all out murican and buy an f150 when I can afford it)

You won't regret the SCR

HOW
I MUST HAVE FREEDOM

HOW TO YOU GET TO MOVE THERE
>>
Just remember Australians, as jealous of our gun availability as you are, we're that jealous of your car availability (enthusiasts, at least)

>>30589402
Have the kind of job that's big enough that a transfer to another country is possible, and then be good enough at your job to be warranted a transfer

>>30589085
OP I'm excited for you. Welcome to a filtered/skewed view of America. Can't comment as a non-californian, though, but I'll be monitoring this thread out of curiosity. Also, what is it you do? Don't have to be detailed exactly, just a vague description of your job or what kind of company it is
>>
>>30589460
You're jealous of flogged to shit Japanese cars?

Shit man, if I got a freedomland pass I'd buy myself a foxbody or something else we never got. Also, what is the legality on owning firearms for a resident (ie, not a citizen)? I assume it's follow local laws and no NFA items, but with the amount of shit I hear the ATF pull I'm not sure.
>>
>>30589085
>first, where is the best place to buy ammo?
Online, though some local stores are almost as good. You can get .223 for 30cpr online now, 40 at my LGS (Riflegear, Orange County)
>can you mail order ammo in california? and from where?
If you're not in the city of LA, or a Bay Area county yes, until the shitty new ammo laws take effect in 2018. After that, you can still mail/online order with a C&R FFL+COE
>also what are the rules specifically in LA
It's a misdemeanor if you don't bend over more than 45 degrees when Jose and Tyrone try to rape you

I'd recommend buying an 'assault weapon' just because having something that's double banned in Kangaroo-land and Calistan will active your long-dormant freedom gene
>>
>>30589085
The SCR is definitely an option but you can always go featureless if you want. It basically means you'll have to settle for a fixed stock and learning to hold your thumb on the wrong side of the grip. The positive is you get to have a removable magazine without gimmicks like the bullet button.

There is an indoor range right in the middle of Downtown LA that has a pretty big assortment of guns for you to try. The staff is pretty chill so they'll let you play around with the large selection of 1911s to your heart's content.

Shit, forgot the example pic of a featureless rifle with the 'not a pistol grip'. I'd assume the guy pinned the stock in place as well.

California is closer to that than Australia though, it's a first step.
>>
>>30590288
dude he's coming from Australia, land of banned small tits and refusal to provide an 18+ rating for games.

to him Commiefornia is a glorious paradise of freedom

It's probably best this way, we can ease him into Texas or Arizona gradually so he doesn't go literally bonkers with the freedom like a kid moving away from a strict Southern Baptist family in the town from Footloose to the big city.

kek, I'd consider a LHD ute conversion, but who know's, I may embrace being full American
>>30589282
cheers mate, one of my things will be yelling at Americans who think Australian gun laws work
>>30589402
father is a recent US citizen, I can use him and his business to become a permanent (californian) resident
>>30589460
Australian car industry is gone next year anyway, both Holden and Ford (AU) are closing down taking the ute with them (pic related is the last)
Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota Australia are already gone
>>30589529
Resident is basically a citizen, just means you cant freely move back to your country of origin, you must spend at least 36 months of the 5 years in the US and never go back for more than a year, you can even own NFA if you are in a freedom state
>>30589977
cheers for the info, honestly I love guns so I'll end up doing both, but for now I like the Ares, I'm used to hunting stocks anyway
>>30590068
soz m8
>>30590288
Australia has a blanket ban on semi auto for sport shooting and recreational hunting
trust me...Commiefornia sucks compared to the rest of the US, but Australia sucks next to Commiefornia... I plan to move to Arizona anyway if my dad stays in LA once I get my citizenship
>>
>>30589085
Cant import the holden?
>>
ok so first off, nice holden, if i remember right the pontiac g8 is a rebranded holden, and yes you can order ammo from the internet in cali if you are 18, or 21 depending on the ammo type, 18 if shotgun or rifle, 21 if pistol
>>
>>30591481
nah you cant, only option is http://lefthandutes.com/
but they are ultra expensive ($100k US for a 30-40k AU)
>>
>California

Can you narrow it down a bit more than that? If East Bay I can tell you where I get most of my stuff, as well as a few good local restaurants. Otherwise; https://www.wikiarms.com/ is what I use to search for cheap ammo.

>>30591524
West Hollywood
and no, I like Sheilas mate haha
>>
>>30591519
That site has some listed at $45k.
>>
>>30591655
yeah, but I dont want to spend twice as much on a car I already have, they sold a VF2 like this one with the 6.3l LS3 for 90k
>>30591424
>>
>>30591655
>>30591673
also to add I'd spend that money on guns and probably not sell my ute in the OP for when I come home

it's not exactly moving to compton

looks awesome, I cant wait to go back to a sandwich place, I think it was Sal's sandwiches?
I just remember their phrase was "hey, we're makin' sandwiches over here"

god damn I could barely fit my mouth around it and I was in love
>>30592251
unrelated, but this is another car idea, but a pontiac G8 and put the (in my opinion) better stock holden bumpers on

...but spending so much just to have a ute in the US is still tempting

When you have to compress the sandwich to take a bite, you know it's gonna be good.
>>
>>30592251
From my incredibly vague understanding of California law I think you can still order ammo online now but once 2017 rolls over I THINK you'll have to go through an FFL to get your ammo online.

I'm likely to be completely wrong so don't quote me on that.

>>30592306
You Americans do some retarded things with food...and god I cant get enough of it

I will however need to import some vegemite for my sangas
>>
>>30592784
In this case I might send my dad some money to buy some bulk ammo before I get there haha
He has a mini 14 anyway so if shit falls though he can use it

People do this, but it's expensive as hell to get those parts from dropbearland.
