Aside from the "sight radius" advantage one can get from a longer barrel, do 20" barrels have any place in a SHTF or home-defense scenario? Sometimes I read things that make it sound like 20" barrels result in a lot of inefficient bumbling around while 16" barrels are super slick room brooms - can't tell how much of this is hyperbole and how much is people justifying their own purchasing choices.
I'm not finding any 223 wylde 20" barrels in stock in my price range (<275 or 300 USD) so I'm considering just going for a 16" but am also concerned that I'll have buyer's remorse with the 16" - or worse - start building a second upper with a 20" anyways :)
I guess I'm having trouble understanding the philosophy/justification behind the statement "get the shortest barrel you can get away with."

If you are willing to spend the time and money on a suppressor, .300blk. If you're not, 6.5gren.
Note that 6.5gren ammo is rare and expensive, but cheaper and easier to reload than 6.8spc or jacketed .300blk.
6.8 is probably the most widely available of the alt calibers, but due to using very light .277 bullets finding reloading components is a challenge.

The Wolf Gold 120gr load is okay if you either dont reload or will only use Wolf brass (it uses a large rifle primer, unlike everyone else's) and Prvi has 2 decent loads, all 3 go for about 70cpr.

got the helmet today, pretty happy with it but the pads are WAY too small so I put my spi towel in so its fits great now
