Best guns for dealing with Goatmen/Skinwalkers/Wendigo? also general innawoods spoop
>Inb4 "I wouldn't worry about it"
>>
Anything that fires 7.62x39, .30-30, or anything bigger will be fine. SKSes and AKs are popular for a reason, as are bolt and lever guns in large calibers. On the other hand you want a gun light enough that you can still fucking book it if a magdump doesn't kill the skinwalker all the way, so fifteen pound bench queens are discouraged.

/thread
>>
I just wondered the other day how do spooky scares and flare guns mix?
>>
>>30585562
Honestly, unless specifically worried about brown bear, a midsize Glock. 357sig is best. It's a ton of penetration from a light thin gun. it's no fun toting around 44mag all day and the Glock is a lot more firepower than a short barrel. 357 revolver.
It's also considerably lighter and thinner than a 10mm Glock.
I've given this a lot of consideration and research. I've owned and carried both a 629 mountain gun and a Glock 29 and I am correct.
>>
>>30585562
Isn't ash (the wood) supposed to have counter spoopy properties?

Are you some kind of pansy? My woods gun is a 44mag carbine.

>Also battle rifles tend to be fairly powerful, carry that
They're also stupidly heavy and inaccurate compared to anything else in their chamberings.
>>
I saw a willow o'whisp in the Florida panhandle woods the other night, it was just this floating ball of flame seen at about 50 yards but it filled me with an unexplainable sense of dread. The area felt very strange when I went back to it the next day, like I was being watched.

Weird shit down here.
>>
>>30585683
No but a 629 is not a comfortable CC gun. If you're an OC fag, it is less of a deal. Also, I spent a lot of money on the best lightest backpacking gear and the whole idea of how heavy that gun is paired with that, bothered me. Note, I said unless brown bear are a concern too. For less than brown bear 357sig is plenty.
>>
>>30585716
OK yeah 44mag is awful for CC. I live in a free state with large fuzzy animals so I OC in the woods.

Retro AR builds actually get a bonus against supernatural creatures in the woods since they were used in a real jungle war.

Ohio? .357 mag lever gun or other lightweight longarm in a respectable but not overly cumbersome chambering (5.56, 7.62x39, 30-30, 20 gauge etc)

If it's a handgun your after, anything high pressure and solid from 9x19 on up will do. Some people like expanding or fragmenting projectiles for innawoods sidearms, but I've found that solids give me more flexibility.

These things I have stated are just my opinion. Feel free to discuss it or shit on it, that's what freedom is for.

Yeah, Ohio has been too heavily tamed and developed for any of the real nasty spooks to survive, except maybe in the hills near West Virginia. Pretty much any centerfire rifle will do.

>>30586372

Never a bad reason, foshizzle. I've innawoods-ed in VA, FL, AZ, AL, NC, NC, MX and another place or two. I always go a hair on the just adequate and light side for flexibility. Also dependent on the distances to be shot. I spent a week innawoodsing in wine-and-horse country VA and even though the biggest game was black bear I went with a .308 Win with stout loads and a good scope because shots up there ranged from 50 feet to 600 yards and the roads were good. I used a .38 SPL for a sidearm with 158 gr LFN for flexibility.

In AZ, however, I rocked an M16A2 style build and a .177 pellet handgun because of the mountainous terrain and the extreme variation in game size. I wasn't hunting, but I figured that a 77gr 5.56 would take elk and desert Blackie if I had to, and .177 pellets would take out pissed off banded rattlers and rabbits.

Because they share a case head and rim dimension, so it's literally just a matter of installing a .458 barrel and cutting a chamber.

The other option, .30/40 Krag rifles, don't have as much safety margin built into them. I'm pretty sure a Mosin receiver could take Marlin Only loads, whilst a Krag would be limited to Trapdoor Springfield pressures.

And I want a bolt action for tossing 720 grain wadcutters at 1000 fps through a big ass suppressor.

>Best guns for dealing with Goatmen/Skinwalkers/Wendigo?

Rule of thumb for killing unknown animals:

.45-70 at minimum; africa-tier shit like .458 win mag is better.

Big-bore dangerous game rounds like .458wm are what zoos use to kill gorillas and other similar sized animals.

If the stories are to be believed, and the creature is man-sized to 8' tall, then such rounds would be more than adequate.

>>30585673
>Isn't ash (the wood) supposed to have counter spoopy properties?

This has never actually been documented and is a stupid piece of meme lore picked up because it's how the navajo keep their evil-wizard skinwalkers away from their camps.

4chan monsters aren't navajo witch doctors, but likely some sort of cryptid we've conflated with the latter by name alone.

>Also battle rifles tend to be fairly powerful, carry that

One story concerning a man in an american desert cites that 8mm mauser is insufficient at typical-use ranges for the weapon. Typical full sized rifle cartridges are insufficient...

I'd go bigger, as I mentioned in my replies to the OP.

>thermite grenade

I know exactly which story you're on about. Has some over the top /k/ related character who improvises explosives?

iirc, it was confirmed fiction.

>I guess it just depends on the build of the creature

Well, you're not trying to harvest a pelt or eat the fucker, so I'd say that if you want to ensure that it's dead, err on the side of big boolit rather than taking your chances with the possibility of insufficience.

THIS is why zoos use these big-bore rounds. Sure, .308 could stop a gorilla, but you want to make sure he's fucking dead and quick...so you dump .458 or .570NE into hiss ass and laugh.

The single common theme of skinwalker stories seems to be that however much firepower you have on hand is just barely enough. Now either that's confirmation bias ("lol I turned a skinwalker into injun hamburger with an RPG-7" isn't exactly a spooky story" and those without enough gun don't live to tell about it) or the whole thing is BS and the monster is following laws of narrative instead of physics.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/255685/woodleigh-hydrostatically-stabilized-solid-bullets-458-winchester-magnum-458-diameter-480-grain-box-of-10

An example Marlin Only load for a 540 grain cast lead is the 1550 FPS Garret Hammerhead +P load. These are a bit lighter at 480 grain, I bet I could get 1750 before I started to smear case heads.

I'm not sure how these would react to modern body armor, but I know they fuck up steel a lot harder than you'd expect for the weight and speed.

You dumb niggers know that skinwalkers are exclusively Navajo witch men right? You're not gonna find them outside of the four corners. That said I've worked ranches near Gallup and with Navajo ranch hands in West TX/ East NM so I'm not saying they don't exist just that anywhere without Navajos is gonna have spoopies with different attributes than your basic skinwalkers.

Yeah I know the Naagloshii proper are exclusive to Navajo territory, but the problem is that "skinwalker" has become /k/ shorthand for any bipedal non-human beastie. Until we start bringing bodies back to identify and classify the different sorts of beasties it's hard to draw clear lines between the names.

As an often overlooked cryptid I think it may be the first time the questiom has been posed:

What would be the best firearm to kill a RatKing?

Actually looks like a perfect job for the ol' Wingmaster and a handful of birdshot, maybe a heavier duck load if you want. It'd be easy as fuck really but still pretty traumatic

I suppose you're right.

But I enjoy the concept of it becoming increasingly slower as you take out each idividual rat forming the king and the others have to drag it's limp corpse-limb.

Also in doing so you chip away at the hivemind that makes it one organism, and the final two or three rats will suddenly have one small fraction of it's original brain power (which is why a rat can never be removed from a ratking lest both creatures die).

They don't exist, sorry.

The most dangerous thing is actually you when in da woods; falling over and breaking something, getting lost, or some other mistake, are what you should be afraid of.

If you're just LARP'ing, well, go right on ahead.

No, seriously.

You should really be focusing on where you walk, where you are (if you go off the paths, which everyone should, unless they casual), having the right amount of food, water, clothes, fire starting materials, and all of the other shit.

Worrying about a weapon is wayyyyyyyy down on the list.

Wild animals rarely attack, and that if you actually bump into one in the first place.

There's no one in da woods that'll harm you in all realistic scenarios.

Carry a weapon if you want for those very, very, very rare things that you'll never experience, like a bear attack, serial killer, drug growers and other people doing illegal activities.

Armed for a skinwalker is just LARP'ing, and if you think it's real, you probably should be armed in the first place.

Alright my Cali /k/omrades

When are we starting a group to get out into Joshua Tree or some other to camp and watch out for spoops?
>>
>>30586462
Ok let's start with why. If military yes we all had to carry retarded fuckheavy loads and sucks to be the 240 bitch (fml). Why anyone would want to carry a 15 pound weapon for rapid fatigue short of setting up an ambush kill zone is a bit of a question. Now if you are fuckhuge and able to handle the 240 as a m16 then fuck you for your lucky mutant genes. For the rest of us 7 pounds tends to be a good average weapon weight with maybe another 30-40 pounds of gear at most for a hunting camping load. Fatigue adds up quickly and costs alertness concentration and coordination and be fucked if I give those up re dangerous game

Basically correct but the north east and some of the south does have mob, cult, drug addicts in a lot of the larger wilderness areas so generally I advise something even if only a cheap shotgun

You won't need a translator because 500 grains of lead at 2100 fps can effectively communicate with anything alive.

Get whatever you want, but if you actually want to harm the damn thing, you need to dip the bullets in ash, and if you want, the powder. Ashen rounds harm skinwalkers on a different level than physical, but that's just what I heard.
With that set aside, elephant guns could do nicely, assuming you aren't a manlet, and a hot loaded .45-70 or .30-06 will kill anything on the north american continent, so I would assume it to do OK to skinwalkers.
