I use my flashlight all the damn time. When I lost it and my multitool/knife for a month, I never missed having the multitool but I was cursing not having a light on me at least every other day.

It was shit ranging from needing to look under a bed in a dimly lit room to trying to read small print outdoors where the streetlights didn't really cover. Just random shit really.
I need one for my IT contracting too but I keep that in my bag. Instead of fumbling around inside a full size office printer I can diagnose problems and disassemble annoyingly stuck components much more quickly by just shining a light inside and seeing precisely what my next step should be.
Fixing shit taught me that a light isn't just a very useful tool in its own right, it's a force multiplier for other tools because it lets you use them better.

Those were off the top of my head--if I don't have a light on me there's at least one instance every other day where not having a light is really annoying. It's not like my Fenix E12 takes up hardly any more room/weight in my pocket than the AA powering it--I can literally keep it in my jeans coin pocket. It can run over a day putting out more light than a smartphone (which I don't carry anyways, bombproofNokia4life) and I can ramp it up to way more lumens than any phone light can pump out, in a more focused beam so that it's useful for things like taking walks at night.

Live audio engineer here. I work on dark stages and use my pocket flashlight constantly on the job to better see connectors I need to plug cable into, find stuff/trace cable on the ground, look through speaker fabric to see where I should place mics, etc ALL SHIFT LONG.

Yeah, I even have it bound to a physical button so I don't have to deal with touch screen activation. But I use it for different purposes. The phone flash has zero throw, it's a good floodlight - like a mini lantern or for even lighting in a computer case. But that's it. My AAA flashlight has good throw and a high mode so I can use it outdoors, it's is on my keys so it's convenient at the door, it doubles a pocket clip for my keys, I can clip it to pants/hat/backpack, I can hold it in my mouth and use both hands (just did that yesterday with some pesky cables). It's a completely different light and I use each as needed.

EDC is an M&P40c with tee shirts and work polos. An M&P40 Pro series (5" barrel) with every thing else. The compact is ok. The long slide is glorious.
40 is kinda meme ish. But I got them cheap from guys who went to 9mm. Ammo is has been about a buck a box different and I can shoot it well enough. I.e. My 6" plate rings at 30 yards.
