Yeah man seriously. The aesthetic is solid.
Is that the Vortex Venom? Nice and small. The K2 Do you have flip up sights? If you get some might I suggest the MBUS PROs? They have a very low profile so won't mess up your rifle's lines much.

Flip your pictures man. They'll be more enjoyable to view that way. Also Lancers are the best. I need more. How do you like that stock?

How much should I budget into my AR15? I'm looking to build a good rifle, something that I can be proud to own, as well as being reliable and accurate. Obviously I'm not looking to buy Gucci and boutique parts, just solid, good components.

You're kidding right?
You're about to have background checks in order to buy ammunition, not to mention that magazines with greater than 10 round capacity are completely banned. The law literally says:
1) Remove the large-capacity magazine from the state.
(2) Prior to July 1, 2017, sell the large-capacity magazine to a licensed firearms dealer.
(3) Destroy the large-capacity magazine.
(4) Surrender the large-capacity magazine to a law enforcement agency for destruction.

The gun laws are much better in Colorado. CCWs are shall issue in every county, and we have open carry.

It blows my mind that true firearms enthusiasts and supporters of the 2nd amendment can still reside in California. The laws are only going to get worse there. Where are your values?

>>30580908

Mags above 15 rounds cannot be bought or sold within the state. That isn't stopping anyone though because the police don't enforce it and the grandfather clause is very loose.

You literally have to turn over your property to the government, and it isn't just any property, it is the property necessary to keep the government from demanding even more property. Get it?

Cute doggo by the way. Looks very happy. Doggo would be happier if you moved out of California to a state where you had the capacity to defend his life from the ATF.

Sweet dreams of the Rainier lower!

>>30581092
Don't rationalize it! Leave California man.

Six new laws infringing upon the natural right of self defense and self determination were signed into effect today. The once great state of California has taken yet another step in the direction of an Orwellian authoritarian government. If a total monopoly on the means of coercive force is held by the state, then it is impossible for the state to exists by the true consent of the governed.

It should be considered that since the 90's firearms homicides have been steadily declining in this country. When our government passes laws, it is important that we ask why, as opposed to asking why not. There is obviously a gun control agenda, and it is increasingly dubious as to whether its primary concern is the safety and lives of citizens, or the disarmament and political disenfranchisement of the population.

Senate Bill 1235 requires individuals to submit to a background check and be entered into a state database in order to purchase ammunition. Sellers of ammunition will be required to hold an ammunition vendor's license. All transfers of ammunition will be required to be recorded by the license holder with the purchaser's name, address, and phone number. This creates a statewide registry of citizens who have bought ammunition legally.

Senate Bill 1446 Is an outright ban on the possession of firearm magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds. There is no clause for grandfathering in magazines acquired before the ban. The law reads :
1) Remove the large-capacity magazine from the state.
(2) Prior to July 1, 2017, sell the large-capacity magazine to a licensed firearms dealer.
(3) Destroy the large-capacity magazine.
(4) Surrender the large-capacity magazine to a law enforcement agency for destruction.
>>

using grease on the bcg is kinda dumb, it needs to move as quickly as possible and viscous shit on the bearing surfaces can cause malfunctions especially with fully loaded mags and dirty uppers.

why not the firing pin btw?

Yes I lube the bolt. I'm on a carbine gas so slowed cycling isn't a concern and has caused 0 malfunctions in something like 2k rounds.

No lube on the firing pin since it doesn't move far and gets coated in oil from other stuff anyways

word, the lube on the pin keeps carbon from sticking, it's exposed to a lot of carbon from the piston chamber since it passes right through the bolt tail.

I don't even shoot 300 rounds, and then my gas rings fail the BCG standing on the bolt test.

How do you guys get 10,000 rounds consistently without changing your gas rings? Is it something I don't HAVE to change?
>>

>I don't even shoot 300 rounds, and then my gas rings fail the BCG standing on the bolt tes
>How do you guys get 10,000 rounds consistently without changing your gas rings?

Maybe get a good BCG instead.
>>

the test is goofy, don't worry about it.

worry about it when the gun stops functioning properly or the rings are physically malformed when you inspect them periodically

>>

My DPMS "commercial" spec bolt carrier group is the same way.

If it works don't worry about it.

Get a quality BCG when you can, though.
>>
>>30582006

The finish is pretty much irrelevant. The material and QC are what matters.
But like >>30581997 says, the test doesn't really tell you much. My CMMG middy never passed the test since the moment I took it out of the box, and never malfunctioned once until the day I sold it.

What's gonna be the difference with a quality BCG?
Is the boring of the carrier gonna be better to hold onto the gas rings of the bolt?
That's the only difference I would suspect, but I'm surely ignorant.
>>
>>30582006
>>30582037

nickel borat is a meme, just get a standard phosphate bolt carrier group unless you want something fancy appearing and moderately easier to clean like cryptic proports to be.
>>
>>30582037
>What's gonna be the difference with a quality BCG?

The bolt won't snap in half after 2k rounds, for one.
But it'll also be made to spec so it'll pass the test. Really though, don't worry about the test, it's about as important as "staggering the gaps 120° apart so that the gas doesn't leak if they line up" like my rifle's manual urged me to.

PSA has a CMC single stage plus LPK for $216. Should I just buy a cheap budget kit to get the gun together and then upgrade along the way?

He's referring to the fact that carbine length gas systems were originally meant for 14.5 inch (or shorter) barrels.
>>
>>30582680

The carbine length gas system is intended for 14.5" barrels (and even then it's often over gassed if the gas port isn't correctly drilled for that barrel length).

The barrel has a wasp waist and an M203 cut for a grenade launcher you'll never use. It's not particularly light or rigid.

No, it's not fucked up, it will work just fine.

I have a 16 inch w/ carbine gas as well. Soon you'll realize that you want a 16 inch w/ mid length gas because it shoots softer and it looks more proportionate.

Long story short, your AR is fine.

Yeah, you'll eventually want to build a gucci AR, but from what I've observed pretty much everyone goes through this evolution with their AR.

>eventually builds a new AR more suited to their tastes

Enjoy your basic rifle for now, though. I'm stuck in the "realizes it's not optimal" phase.

Hey guys, I'm looking to build an AR without shitting out a huge amount of money. I'd like to really save where I can and have a nice platform that has decent accuracy and will take most of the ammo I would feed through it.

Generally, what are some good guidelines to building an AR? (Sportsmansguide.com, cheaperthandirt.com, ar15.com, etc)
-What sites can you buy lowers and uppers from?
-Is it good to buy fully assembled uppers and lowers?
-How much can I expect to spend on the rifle itself before adding accessories like a scope or new stock?
-How do I go about registering my AR as a complete rifle? Or am I only required to register the lower receiver because it contains the firing mechanism?

I appreciate any help you guys can toss my way, it'd really help me out!
>>
>>30583219

Sorry, I fucked up. Meant to put those sites after that first line.
>>
>>30583219
>Is it good to buy fully assembled uppers and lowers?
Barrelled or Complete Uppers yes, lowers is unnecessary. They are easy to complete yourself with a lower and a kit.
>How much can I expect to spend?
$350 for super-budget, $500 for budget (what you should really expect to pay), $750 for gettin'there
>How do I register
In the US, you don't. The receiver is enough.

M193 is 55g FMJ.

M855 is 62g soft steel core FMJ.

M193 is what the AR15 was designed to shoot, and is a devastating load because of its terminal ballistics. It has the potential to fragment when at high velocitys and cause massive wounds.

M855 was essentially developed to reduce this fragmentation, because European NATO country's objected to using that sort of wounding charactistic in their new rounds.

The USA was "forced" to adopt M855(SS109) by NATO.

M855 is in many ways inferior to M193, and is NOT a penetrator round. The increased weight, and therefore slower speed actually negatively effects pennetration performance.

M855 is not banned, although there was a half assed attempt last year.

You can literally order M193 online, same with M855.

I do not recommend you buy any M855 for serious use.

>M855 was essentially developed to reduce this fragmentation, because European NATO country's objected to using that sort of wounding charactistic in their new rounds.
>The USA was "forced" to adopt M855(SS109) by NATO.

That's a hilarious load of nonsense.
>>
>>30584489
Tons of companies make both.

FMJ for HD is usually a bad idea, but 5.56 FMJ(M193) is usually going so fast at HD distances that it fragments and stays relatively contained in human targets.

Some people recommend bonded barrier blind ammo for HD, which I also don't really understand.
>>
>>30584528
That's literally the only reason I can imagine the US adopting it.

Do you have a better one?

I can almost guarantee you the adoption was political, rather than based on factual evidence of the round being better.
>>
>>
What do you fags use for lower blocks?
>>
>>30584583
the main requirement for m855 was to penetrate the side of a Russian steel helmet at 600m when fired out of the SAW
>>
>>30584596

>>
>>30584583

It was adopted to enhance the round's AP capabilities, especially at extended ranges. It was a poor choice, but NATO was getting really worried about body armor, they predicted WP starting to issue it to everyone (which never came even close to happening).
>>
>>30584604
>one arbitrary, useless requirement outweighs all of the other detriments by adopting the new round

>the US at this time disparately wants NATO to standardize something

At the time, it appeared there are no drawbacks aside from having to switch to a different twist rate to accomodate the 62gr ball and tracer ammo, and a slight accuracy loss at close to mid ranges.
Also, the impact on terminal effectiveness isn't nearly as bad out of 20" barrels.
>>
>>30584706
That actually makes sense. I still don't believe it was the right choice.
>>
>>30583988

People back then were generally malnourished so their growth was stunted
>>
>>30584728

It wasn't.

As for penetration at reasonable ranges (i.e. not 500+ m), I no longer shoot M193 out of a 20" barrel at my steel targets, because it fucking *shreks* the hardened steel that regularly shrugs off steel core 54r out of an SVD, 7n6 out of a 74, steel core M43 and everything else I was throwing at it for years.
>>
What do you guys think of handloaded Hornady 60 grain softpoint to stockpile as a do all round for the apocalypse?

i'll be shooting it out of a 16" 1:9

Is mid length gas okay for 18" barrel?
Would that be under gassed or overgassed?

What AR variants are these?
Basic bitch A1 or something else?
>>
>>30585062

It's fine. It's somewhat analogous to a 16" with a carbine length gas. If you want something softer shooting, I'd suggest getting one with a rifle length gas system or an adjustable gas block, which is my personal preference.
>>
>>30585175

MidwayUSA is literally like $100-200 cheaper for the exact same quality

Only good thing to get at PSA is magazines in bulk
