Could a 50bmg armor piercing black tip go through the mid plate of a t34-85?

45mm of rolled homogenous steel at a 45° slant roughly 60-70ish effective thickness
>>
I'm honestly just curious
>>
Maybe a little.
>>
>>30580285 I was imagining somone going on a rampage in a t3485 and was wondering what it would take to stop it. That a police force could bring to the table I think of odd scenarios lol
>>
A mosin could pierce the t34 so yes

I have a mosin. I doubt it could pierce 70mm of hardened and tempered high carbon steel......iv shot it at steel plates..
>>
>>30580251
My grandfather pierced one with 22LR so yeah.
>>
>>30580343 was hoping for a serious answer. thanks lol

A robot with some c4
>>
>>30580328
that's bullshit boss, I'm not T-34 apologist but it couldn't be penned by rifle rounds
>>
Demo ranch guy on YouTube shot a 4 inch thick block of titanium with a 50bmg and it went in pretty goddamn far.
>>
>>30580369
It was vertical....the t34 has slanted armor it would glance right off..
>>
I think I remember seeing that cartridge has like 19mm of penetration at 500m, going down to 10mm of penetration at 1200m. At point blank range it could probably do nearly 30mm of penetration or something, still not enough to get through the tanks 60-70mm of armor.
>>
>>30580408
So I guess if 4 guys found a fully loaded t3485 they would be uncontested to destroy a small town lol

I glanced ur mum right off my todger u fukkin mad man.

No but it can damage/destroy vision blocks, sights, hull machine gun, tracks, roadwheels, engine roof etc which means that the tank will grind to a halt or renderd combat ineffective.

And the T-34 got its 45mm front armor sloped at 60 degrees which gives it 80-90mm effective armor thickness.

Answer is NO here is why;

Effective armor thickness giving by the angle is this; how much steel that projectile has to go trough. Now thats the one thing about angle second is that projectile is not going to use all of it's energy to penetrate and most likely bounce because of the angle thats the second thing. Thats why some anti tank rounds back in the day had a soft cap so projectile can angle it 90 degrees to the sloped armour once it's hit it
>>
>>30580945

How easy is it to actually mobility kill a tank with a .50? I ask because in men of war the damn ai is always tracking my tanks with with the things.
>there was also a green text a long time ago about a careless humvee gunner who sprayed the back of an abrams turret and the engine happily gobbled up a ricochet through an intake or something and preceded to shit itself
>>
>>30580343

Did it bounce around inside for massive damage?
>>
Against small caliber rounds the T-34 has an effective 110mm of frontal armor thanks to the slope. Which is why the Germans up gunned, when a round is wider than the plate is thick, this is called overmatching, which greatly improves penetration. Against German 75mm guns the T-34's front hull only has an effective 80-90mm of armor.
It's worth noting the driver's hatch is a weak point, and a round striking there very often caused it to cave in regardless of whether the round would have penetrated or not, although this was only noted with larger shells such as the ones from 75mm or 88mm guns.

As far as .50BMG goes, no, you're not getting through the front hull with that. Perhaps the turret ring, or the sides of the turret which are only slightly slanted which is only of 30mm thickness. I believe 50BMG could go through that, but definitely not the front, side or rear hull.
>>
>>30580424
Nope, rear and side plates are more vulnerable. T34-85 would also be extremely vulnerable to Molotov coctails and the like, forcing the crew to abandon it or achieving a mobility kill by disabling the engine.
>>
Didn't american P-47 pilots kill Tiger tanks by shooting their .50 cals to the ground under the tank, bouncing them to the thin floor armor?
>>
>>30581304
Engine deck with air intakes and radiators is thin. So when you see those footages of tiger being hit, engine deck almost always is the one that catch fire

The fact that peoples like you exist sadden me greatly.
>>
>>30581304
American P-47 pilots claimed they did that because it was in there interest to make themselves seem as effective as possible, and that was one way of over-inflating kill counts in order to dickwave with them
>>
>>30581273
The hull is the same thickness all around.
The turret is 45mm thick on the front and 30mm thick on the sides and rear.
>>
>>30580285
Just the tip, I promise
>>
What is this war thunder general?
>>
>>30581448
You could probably penetrate the turret at very close range then, depending on where you struck it.

Molotov would still work, you might be able to throw a track too with a .50BMG or three. I think your best bet in OPs scenario would be to mobility kill it.

If you're feeling extra frisky, get some high velocity explosives, a metal casing, and a copper plate...
>>
The T-34's armor is paper thin on top

Some guy climbing on it and putting a fiddy on top of the turret would probably pepper the crew
