I'm looking to purchase my first firearm. My friends have taken me shooting a couple times and I want to buy a mauser kar98k like pic related. My only problem is I'm having a really hard time finding one online.
From what research I've done, I'm willing to spend up to $500 if the quality is nice enough and my preference for what type of 98k would be a Czech or Russian capture. The yugo 7mm aren't true 98k's and Ive been avoiding those. Any help would be greatly appreciated to where to find one!

all of those seem to be 7mm, whereas i'm looking for the 8mm

Faggot.
>>
>>30577143
what? why? aren't the yugo versions the m48? which are different than the originals right?
>>
>>30577173
They're virtually identical, aside from the nazi markings. They're all chambered in 8mm Mauser, which is actually 7.92mm, hence why most people label it as 8mm for simplicity's sake. Most of them have straight bolt handles, but finding ones with bent handles isn't hard either.

You're probably going to want to spend more, even Russian capture guns go for more than $500 regularly.

Now if authenticity isn't that important to you, Yugo Mausers are fine. They're based on the 1924 action, which is shorter than the M95 action used in the Kar98k though. If authenticity does matter to you, then you'll have to be paitent and stalk Gunbroker.

Also, 7.92 is 8mm. There are some Czech made Mausers out there in 7mm, and a whole slew of South American Mausers in 7mm, but I don't think any Yugo ones are.

I really appreciate the help guys. I really want to get one that uses the m95 action. Do you know of any sites other than gunbroker that might have them? I've been scouring the internet almost all day trying to find one that's in decent condition and comes with the cleaning rod and hooded sight, with blued steel

Get an M48.
It's a Yugoslavian version with a slightly longer hand guard and a shorter pull made to FN specs that's around 300 bucks on average.
Here's a link.

If I can't find a one that uses m95 action, I will probably get this. thank you. Are there any noticeable differences between this and the original kar98ks in terms of performance?

also, what do you guys think about this:

No, there are no differences performance wise. Also, the Mauser 95 action isn't the same as the 98. You want a 98 based action.
>>
>>30577417
what's the difference between the two? >>30577407
thank you!
>>
>>30577465
Well for one there is no Mauser 95 action. There is the 71 (black powder) the 89, 90, 91, 93, and 96. These are "small ring" Mausers, and while fine, are not what the Germans used. They used the 98 action, which is a "large ring" model.

I'm assuming you want this because you think the Germans are cool or whatever and want to own something like they would carry. If you just want a Mauser you have millions of options.
>>
>>30577506
weren't all the previous actions cock on close as well?
The 96 is, but what about the others?
>>
>>30577506
hahahahaha yeah, I do and I really want to carry a the model that is closest to what they would have been actually using. Do the Yugos use a 98 action? If not, which ones would?

Also how long does it take to learn all this kind of stuff

I found my K98k through a Newspaper Advertisement, he wanted $575 so I drove the 30+ miles and paid him asking price and the next week he gave me 210 rounds of turkish 8mm for giving him asking price for the rifle bretty cool dude
Online shopping is overwhelming the chance will arise to buy one as simple as looking in the print and having patience

The Yugo use the 24 action, which is shorter and somewhat easier to manufacture. Visually you won't be able to tell the difference though.
However, if you search you CAN find Yugo k98s. These are pretty much the exact same as what the Germans used, only not made in Germany. They're usually cheap ($300ish) but they don't pop up that often.

And it's taken me a little while to learn and I don't know that much, mostly because I don't like Mausers. Now French rifles, that's more my speed.
>>
>>30577578
I don't know honestly. I could look it up but I'm not going to. Maybe later.
>>
>>30577650
biggest difference between the two? french and german rifles?
>>
>>30577650
I heard they come with white flags.
>>
>>30577640
god damn, can you go to a local gun store and ask the people to help order one of these? I think i might try for that sometime this week. That one looks sweet do you know what kind it is?

>don't like Mausers
>I prefer French rifles
Sure.
Go suck on a baguette of dicks you fucktard.
Not liking Mausers is one thing.
But preferring French one's?
Fuck that jazz.
>>
>>30577679
German rifles are either Mausers or the Gew 88 which is an amalgamation and closer to a Mannlicher than anything else. French rifles are Lebel, Berthier, or Mas style rifles. To me the Mas is a better action and a better rifle overall, but I'm in the minority in thinking that.

Sure bud its a 1941 duv K98k with mismatched parts Russian Capture, the bore has pitting and is dark but the rifling is still crisp and strong
Pic Related is 100 meters
As for the gunstore question you would have to ask them for a copy of their FFL and use it to buy one on gunbroker then ship it to them

do you think this is worth the price?

Seriously, read a book.
>>
I would just like to add that the gun the guy is using in the OP picture is actually a m48 as well. Goes to show how similar the m48 and the k98k look.
>>
>>30578841
how can you tell?
>>
>>30578873
The handguard extends behind the rear sight. This is a yugo feature, the k98k has a metal section between the receiver and the rear sight.
>>
>>30578893
interesting, thanks for pointing that out
>>
>>30578873
>>30578893
Also, the guy in the picture is a reenactor. Not a real Heer soldier. Probably why he has a m48 instead of a k98k, since one is much cheaper and easier to get than the other.
