Hey /k/,
Neighbours husband died and gave me this gun. To me it looks like a Remington New Model, but I'm not sure. Can you tell me more about it, thanks.
Only markings
Also I'm not sure on the caliber

Looks like some sort of weird reproduction of a Remington Model 1858

It's a Remington 1875, very neat though a bit obscure compared to the Colts of the same time.

Dude you got pirated gun
Still legal, technically

If it says Remington it's a Remington 99.999% of the time, if it wasn't it would have foreign proofmarks on the frame or cylinder, the US never had proofhouses.
Not much info on them so you might have to fiddle around with different calibers or ask people more knowledgeable.
Lucked out OP, they are relativity rare, though finding a buyer would be hard as they have no widespread collector's value.
Holy shit, OP. That's a nickle plated original piece. Available calibers would be .45 Colt,.44-40 Winchester, and.44 Remington -- the precursor to the .44 Special IIRC. Take it to a gunsmith and have him look at the springs and clean it out, and he'll be able to tell you what it's chambered for and suggest a supply for ammo.

Do they have kids? Save it for the kids. Don't just fucking give it to him make him into a man and once his training is completed give it to him but don't tell anyone that you're going to do it.
