It's a choice between my SLR-107fr with US Palm grip and ALG AK trigger.

Or my AR homebuild with BCM BFH chromed upper/bcg, magpul furniture, Stag LPK and buffer tube assembly, and Geissele SSA-E trigger.
>>

True enough, that one interview with the guy from Sarajevo said the same. Doesn't matter how many guns you have if you don't have a group to use them. If SHTF you better hope you have people

I think a group of 4-5 people is ideal.
Trained in basic firearms and shooting safety so nobody trips and gets one to the back
>>
>>30547814

Not gonna lie, those ARfags don't lie when they say their gun is much lighter, especially when comparing with a loaded mag in each.

I can only imagine carrying 15-20 mags fully loaded mags on you while navigating the war torn cities of the former USA.

If you're in for the long haul like the Bosnian man was, the more the merrier as long as you can secure food. That shouldn't be a problem with stockpiling. I'd post the cap but I'm on mobile and I'm sure everyone has seen it. Lots of good advice, worth looking at for anyone thato hasn't seen it.

Hey /k/omrades, I'm trying to get into AKs. Right now, I'm a university student and my on-campus job nets about 360 a month, which I try to save the majority of. What's a good, lower priced AK brand/model I can look for thats NYS compliant? Basically no pistol grip and no muzzle brake, but I can do research to find a way around that.

Also, what are some good non-corrosive ammo brands that I can buy so I don't get pits in my barrel? I don't know if most AKs have resistant coatings for that, so I appreciate you guys helping out a newbie :)

I shot a 7.62 Ruger Mini-30 the other day. The scope was sighted in for 100 yards and I was at 25 (indoor range) so I couldn't get an acurate measure of accuracy. The groups, although way off center were still decent for my level of gun experience so far. All in all I think 7.62 is great but if I were to have a gun that shot it, I'd definitely need an AK and not a Mini-30. It'll have to wait though because I want to get an AR-15 before the US gets fucked after the last 3 shootings recently. Convince me why I should get an AK before instead

Call me lazy, but I think it would be faster to reload and charge without having to flip the rifle over or take your hand off the pistol grip. When I reload my ak I tuck the butt to the inside elbow like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utqc53kXT98 so not having to flip the gun all the way over would be awesome.

Give it to me straight /akg/, do 7.62x39 FMJs (lets assume M67 Yugo style) cause less tissue injury than 5.56x45 FMJs?

Whether it's /arg/ or the local range fudds, they talk about how the 5.56x45 "explodes in soft tissue" and causes far more grievous injuries, whereas a 7.62x39 will merely "punch straight through".

But I've seen far too many raw meat tests to immediately say that the x39 is an "inferior round for creating lethal wounds vs the 5.56".
>>
>>30552606
Should have went with Midwest industries I had one and it was solid as fuck
>>
>>30552895
5.56 will also "punch right through" except it will punch a smaller hole. If you're using 5.56 for home defense or something you should definitely look at Hornady TAPs or comparable bullets. 5.56 ball is a shitty man stopper tbqh.

I'd get a WASR if that's the price range you're in. Check Atlanticfirearms.
I had a century gun once. It had a problem and I sent it in. 2 months later I got it back and the problem wasn't fixed and they had added some new dings to my VZ top cover.
Avoid century made guns, they are spotty in their QC and guns are too expensive to gamble on.

as someone who shoots 5.56, 308, and 7.62x39 AK pattern guns, is there a reason i should jump into 5.45? i ask because it does interest me somewhat, and even without cheap 7n6 around, new production isnt that expensive. whats holding me back is the idea of yet another caliber to stock up on, as well as the investment cost of atleast 10 decent magazines and then the gun itself.
this is for dirt shooting and paper punching. thoughts?

I recently asked myself this since I was thinking about buying a new rifle (didn't have any specific thing in mind) last week and was in the same situation.

Off I went to akfiles to see what the 74 market (ammo, magazines, parts, etc) looked like at present. Well, it just so happens that I stumbled into the picture thread and saw a triangle folder arsenal with wooden handguards and a bakelite mag. Ordered a fucking slr104 from atlantic a few minutes later. Looked around today and found out that our academy still stocks monarch 5.45, just in a new box.

Make your dreams come true, anon.

its shit. All the ballistics study n voodoo majic that each tries to tell you is a load of shit. Simplest way to think of it is like arrows. bullets punch straight holes into whatever they hit. you need mass, inertia, and a big hole, and it needs to pass through something vital for it to be effective.

5.56 is effective, IF it hits directly your target.
5.45 is effective because it relies on a different metric
7.62 is effective because it flies through shit, and keep on going
when you get to the bigboy bullets like used in WWII, then it starts to get interesting in what happens to the body when it hits.

5.56 is called a poodlepuncher for a reason, and that was when it had a 1/12 twist and 55gr which was the keystone to its effectiveness.
5.45 is called the poison bullet because of how it operates when it hits the body
7.62 is basically he-who-must-not-be-named.

So apparently the shooter in Dallas used an SKS.

Ok, didn't look like 12 to me but for the sake of argument, let's say you're right. That doesn't change the fact that you're just wilfully ignoring multiple current sources that prove you wrong to stick to the single one that agrees with you. Also, there are SKS mags that hold more than 10 rounds so it being 12 shots doesn't disprove the SKS sources anyway.

Ever had a jam where the cartridge stuck itself at the mouth of the chamber? The bolt carrier couldn't push it in, and I had just gotten done mag dumping. Fell out a minute later though.

>>
>>30555451
Do you mean it wouldn't feed into the chamber? Were you able to shoot other rounds fine after the one that wouldn't feed? My first thoughts would either be wrong caliber or that there might be something stuck in the chamber like part of a casing.

I guess. It just stuck right where you can see it in the photo. Could possible have been a pice of casing or something? I doubt it though. I can post a picture of the reciever right now but idk if that would help.

Ok folks, i ordered an AMD65 parts kit, it should get here in a few days

I'm planning on building my own furniture for it (wood) because I'm kinda fuddy, and i think a side folding wood stock is funny

I also have an AKM barrel for it, 16" nitrided. Now i know it'll mostly fit, but the gas tube will be too short to fit the barrel normally. So the two options are: buy an AKM gas tube, or drill the gas port closer than normal on the barrel (somebody said that was doable). Which one should i do?

You can have those things in a 5.56 caliber arsenal. People have made the 74 mags feed reliably, mine can only cycle about 12 rounds because I've yet to sand down the insode nose end of the mag or build material on the rear of the follower. I like the 5.45 round a lot but unless I fall into some more cash soon or find an incredible deal, i am still hesitant to get one.

There is, motherfucker. You live in a time where as each month passes, Jews push more gun control. All 7.62 and 5.45 is imported. When obongo or shillary do a pen swipe and won't import the shit anymore, your rifle is a paperweight. If you live in the western hemisphere the 5.56 is the round for you for LONG TERM reliability. We're not talking ballistics or cost, just being able to get your hands on the shit. When tshtf and you're giving handjobs in back alleys for 20 rounds of 7n6, I'll be in my garage reloading and stockpiling.

>just being able to get your hands on the shit.

That's all well and good, but if you're looking for something in 5.56 with longevity and high parts availability, why not just get a fucking AR?

If you're in the western hemisphere parts are going to be a hell of a lot more common for it. Just imagine trying to get your hands on a 5.56 AK bolt or barrel compared to an AR bolt or barrel.

Around here, you're going to find AR parts in 5.56, and a little less commonly AK parts in 7.62x39, and the respective ammo for each. You're not going to find very many AK parts in 5.56.

>>30559865
AK is my first pick, but I have to agree with this guy.

As someone said in an /arg/ yesterday, if everything went to hell, the AR would be easier to feed and fix considering how common they are here in the US.

As we know, you can remedy most AK problems with a hammer or a rock, but you may not always find ammunition. 7.62x39 is very common, yes, but not everywhere.

That said, for me personally my AR would be my backup rifle, not my primary, mostly due to preference and skillset. I am a much better with the AK than I am with the AR.
>>
>>30559715

I bought a 5.45 AK knowing that next year it might just be a prop. Compared to 7.62x39 and especially 5.56, the 5.45 market is hanging by a fucking thread unless you want to bargain and beg with grumpy geriatrics that are sitting on dozens of crates they never intend on actually opening.

I dunno, good 7.62x39 seems a whole lot cheaper and easier (as of now, not saying what happens if an import ban comes down) to get your hands on than 5.56. The only way to go cheaper with 5.56 vs 7.62x39 is with steelcase, and not everyone likes the implications of what it can do to your gun.

Though I'm not factoring in reloading.

Most 5.56 AK's are what most wold consider well built or higher end AK's of Polish, Chinese, Russian or Bulgarian origin. While the parts availability is not as common, it's not non existent either. How many people in here have had to replace bolts, bolt carriers or barrels in their AK? Let's face it, you need to know what you're doing to start replacing these parts on an AK, and most people lack the knowledge or tools. An AK will be reliable as fuck until the day it takes a major shit, at which point you probably wouldn't bother fucking with it again anyway, especially in a SHTF scenario.

I have a few AR's, I don't like them. They aren't bad, I can't explain it, I don't like shooting them and they don't feel as robust as an AK rifle. For all of the aftermarket that is out there for the AR, I believe most of it is marketing hyped-up junk, and the few quality parts that do exist are what most would consider expensive, which is further a reason shooting the common American cartridge out of an AK is more appealing to me and increasing in popularity. I think not being able to accept a 5.56 caliber AK is pure autism, the same way in the car world the JDM fags put expensive overpriced parts Japanese parts on their cars because anything else would in their minds be "un-authentic".
>>
>>30560183

>good 7.62x39 seems a whole lot cheaper and easier (as of now, not saying what happens if an import ban comes down) to get your hands on than 5.56

I feel the same way, though it's only because all of the 7.62x39 we get is exported from some country where it's produced at such a low cost. Domestically produced 7.62 would cost more after normalization simply because the government isn't buying billions of rounds and dumping whatever doesn't pass muster onto the civilian market.

As for 5.45, according to Sam all of GT's production is allocated to military contracts. Exactly who is buying all of this shit when they have pallets of surplus lying around everywhere?
>>
AMD65 and AMD63, any good?
>>
>>30560305

The thing I like most about the AR is the fact that I can assemble one with few specialized tools. The only real unique bits I bought were the geissele reaction rod and gas tube roll pin starter, and those aren't even necessarily required.

If I didn't enjoy AKs so much I'd probably have put together a dozen ARs by now.

I agree, the best thing about the AR is that you don't need much in terms of tools for them. As some anon said on here before. "AKs are built, AR's are assembled". If you live in the US you need at least one AR, period. There is just something "soul-less" about it that I can't put my finger on, and something just itching in the back of my mind that makes me not trust it, even though neither of my AR's have given me trouble (neither have any of my AKs for that matter). Hell, I would pick my 1st gen SIG 556 over my ARs if that means anything.

Literally a meme caliber, 7.62x39 is a perfectly suitable round.

Furthermore, if SHTF and since your on /k/ you most certainly are an antisocial autist with no real battle buddies (no you're waifu does not count).
7.62x39 is a great cartridge for lone wolf type shit(i.e. even shit tier 7.62x39 can turn a wall of cinder blocks into rubble) especially at closer distances 0-300 m and this is probably the range you'd catch combat anyways.
the smaller calibers are usually much better for suppression and when you have more hands with guns like a fire team. They are also better (though not by much) at longer distances.

In the market for an AK. Mainly been browsing Atlantic, but most of their products are out due to spikes in purchases. My budget is like $700-$1,100. What should I go for?
>>
>>30561736
Just get KVAR's 7.62 74 brake. As long as your FSB has a lug on it, it will mount.

Don't think that's gonna work.

I was replying with the sentiment that the slant is garbage and should only be used if you're dirt poor.
>Thus "No"

>>30561621
Since Kvar's site is borked and I couldn't tell you if that bulgy comp is still OOS (I imagine it is) Damage Industries Comp might allow a bayo to be mounted.
I have no experience with it, but might be worth a look anyway.

My bad.
>>
>>30561807
If he has those teeth on the FSB, then he needs a type 1 AK47 (not AKM) bayonet, and yes, he is fucked besides either a slant, type84, or nut. idk if a AKML flashhider would work or not.

What? What I said has nothing to do with what gun he used.

Jews push for gun bans every year. Somehow equated to 'he used an AR15' in your mind.

I just noticed, this mag is missing the witness hole in the back that is usually there to tell you if the mag is full. This is at 20 rounds.

I fucking wonder why, Chimps.

Well. Duh

I was mentioning it because I thought it was a neat detail

Although it would still be nice to have round count markings or a mark that shows when it's fully loaded

Whatever happened to that one guy that was going to offer up some aluminum mags for sale?

I bought a Romanian bayo today and it fits on my rifle I have to take the muzzle brake off. Hence why I want one that actually works and will fit so I won't have to remove the muzzle brake

Is the US made krinkov muzzle device worth a shot? The original bulgarian always seems to be sold out

Alright guys so it's time for me to get a muzzle device. Whats the best one for around 100$? I'd rather not spend more than that but if it's worth a little more I will. Pic unrelated
>>
>>30562810

Did he come through with the 7.62x39 bakes yet?
>>
>>30563214
No idea, I thought I missed out on the last time he showed up roughly a month ago, that's all I know

The only place I know that had them is in britain. They come Unissued with all the markings on them, you assemble them. They're about 38 a peice and shipping sucks. It's like rusmilitary.com or something
>>
>>30563274
I'll read up on that one. What can you tell me about the US made krinkov vs the original?

>What can you tell me about the US made krinkov vs the original?

I think if I remember correctly, no one in the US makes it correctly. The actual intention of that guy is to provide an expansion chamber to build back-pressure so that the 'krinkov' rifles can cycle reliably. If you have a regular full-size AK, it provides very little benefit.
>>
>>30563353
Ah, never mind then. Also I just noticed it's only a flash hider, and what I'm really looking for is a muzzle brake or a compensator(same thing right?). The Fighter Brake looks good. Someone here once reccomended me a JRVV or something, I can't remember what it's called.
>>
>>30563306
They do their best to make shipping as easy as possible and take like 20% off US orders. They come in like 3 weeks. Yea it sucks but the age of surplus is dead unfortunately. It's all dried up and priced out the ass.
>>
Got to shoot an underfolder in fullauto today at the local range, was pretty fun but I thought I'd be able to control it better
