>Police in Dallas used a robot with an explosive device to kill a suspect involved in a coordinated ambush against officers.

>The suspect was holed up inside the El Centro College parking garage for several hours overnight Thursday before police moved to "blast him out," Mayor Mike Rawlings said Friday. The negotiations with the suspect had stalled.

>"We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was," Rawlings told reporters. "Other options would have exposed our officers in grave danger."

Imagine you spent a solid hour or two talking to the police, barricading yourself in the best fatal funnel you can find. You've set IED's all over the building so that when you get rushed you bring the building down killing everyone not just some..
>Now... You're waiting and you hear something mechanical... Like small tracks on concrete..
>And here comes fucking Wall-e comes rolling around the corner, it moves over to your bomb...
>Wall-e sits a demo charge on your bomb

>>
>>30546271
We've had "weaponized robots" for a long time now
I remember seeing a video like 15 years ago of a robot shooting a dude with a shotgun
>>
This is a pretty weird precedent. I've never heard of the police resorting to explosives to outright kill someone they were trying to apprehend. Why not just pump that level of the parking structure full of CS gas and rush the guy? Sure would have been nice to get the main suspect alive so we could ask him questions, guys.
>>
Robots be racis

We need more law enforcement robots.
>>
>>30546271
So the guy was killed/wounded by the breaching charge?
>>
>>30548244

Well, they already had ten of their guys shot and about half of them dead. They probably A) didn't want to risk any more cops getting killed that night and B) really wanted to kill the son of a bitch.

And this right here is why police get shot. Remember Dorner? Yeah, everyone under 30 in Socal was rooting for him because he harmed fewer innocent people than the police did. Every time the police abuse their power or fail to follow procedure, you're going to alienate a good portion of the population. No one disputes right to self preservation if there's no other option, i.e. you're a single civilian defending his home.

But if you're literally a police force with unlimited resources and millions of dollars worth of military equipment, and you've completely surrounded a suspect who's only weapon is a rifle with limited ammunition, it's not unreasonable to ask you to do your job and take the criminal in to be persecuted by the court and not blown to smithereens as retaliation.

The problem in this situation is that they killed someone while they weren't in danger and weren't defending themselves. The vast majority of people are okay with the police using deadly force when they or someone else is in danger. In this case they used deadly force remotely against someone pinned down who wasn't putting them in danger.

>uniformed soldiers aren't combatants

Nobody's saying they deserved to be shot, or that all police are actively involved in criminal activity, merely that by the virtue of being armed and dangerous, they are not "innocent bystanders". There aren't really any American soldiers that deserved to be blown up in Afghanistan, but to call them innocent because they were attacked by militants is contorting the truth. In the minds of the people attacking these officers, they're the uniformed enemy. And again, it's not like they were unarmed. Every single offficer shot was armed, which makes them a combatant, even if they're not actively fighting. I don't see what's so hard about this.

I think that it was a terrible precedent to set, killing someone with a suicide robot. It's pretty much on par with wasting him with a predator drone. They had plenty of opportunity to wait him out, it's not like he packed days of food and water.

Conversely, they did have reports of other shots fired and such, like they always get. So many false reports from idiots confusing the scene and making it difficult to size up the scale of the situation. On top of that, nobody wanted to have a three-day siege while BLM formed a giant circle around the place, and possibly harassing/attacking the police while they prepared for the inevitable death by cop. That situation would only get uglier and more difficult for the police the longer it went on, but now they're saddled with the reputation of drone-striking someone rather than try to take them alive, and that's playing right into the wanton murdering of black people dialogue going on.
>>
>>30550372
>cops were wrong for taking out a fucker who was sniping them and civilians
Nope they were not.
It is their job.
There is a difference however when you militarize the police with what is effectively drones.

It might not drop a Hellfire on you, but the implications are really scary.

They already had three people in custody, wounded officers had already been evacuated, the gunman was cornered in a windowless part of the garage, and the only IED reports were those mentioned in the building where the gunman was planning to hole up.

The issue is that there are few legal precedents for actual executions staged by police. All police killings are carried out to stop an immediate threat to life, which this guy wasn't. It was almost like they didn't have to rush in, because they had a robot to deliver a nonlethal solution.

Besides, this sounds like the ONE situation that SWAT teams are SPECIFICALLY trained for. Tell me, if this isn't the kind of event where you use SWAT, what is? It's not like the Dallas PD had MRAPS or anything similar that could survive IEDs or small-caliber fire. It's not like they had HOURS to prepare a plan for his capture.

Hell no, but then, if there are a bunch of fuckers sniping people, that is even more scary, and it's also a possibility, and has been for a very long time, but you don't see /k/ threads about that all the time.

Dude, the US government itself labels all military-age males in a battle zone as "enemy combatants". At what point do you label every single person "innocent"? It DOES matter what flag you wear, because tells your allies and enemies what side you're on. Remember the Predator movies? The bugger didn't ever kill anything without a weapon, because there's no sport in it. Apparently the police treat anyone with a weapon as a combatant until they determine otherwise, so I don't see how counting armed, trained individuals among the "innocents" is rational or productive.

Just because someone is a combatant doesn't mean they deserve to die. I'm just saying there's a difference between popping a pre-schooler and popping some dude in his mid 20's with a rifle slung over his shoulder and an itchy trigger finger. Stop getting so irrational over what is effectively a semantic argument.
>>
To be fair to the cops the guy was purported to have a bomb and had set one earlier. So bombing him was literally the best option. While waiting for him to set off his (maybe even while pretending to surrender) could put morw lives at risk and show the Dallas PD to be weak.

The Dallas police did the right thing
>>
>>30550498
Commentators suspect the "drone/robot execution" issue will be criminally or constitutionally challenged in the near future, likely when it happens against someone who has actual public sympathy (think the ATF using a drone strike on an elderly MMJ grower because they assume everyone growing weed is going to have assault rifles with them)
>>
>>30549603

It is a fact that Dorner killed fewer people than the cops did chasing Dorner.

Here's a fucking fun detail you may have forgotten: The cops shot to death two innocent women because they suspected they might have been Dorner. They "mistook" two tiny asian women for one black man.

With cops like that, the cops are the real threat to peace.
>>
>>30550652
>To be fair to the cops the guy was purported to have a bomb and had set one earlier. So bombing him was literally the best option.

Bull. Shit.

I don't care if the guy is literal Satan. Cops do not get to bomb a suspect. Even if the only way to get him would be to march a 100 cops to certain death, well guess what? A hundred cops need to die that day. Cops are not soldiers, they have fucking rules that they need to obey.
>>
>>30550687

>>
>>30550634
Remember when only huge city metro PDs could afford APCs?
And now even Hickville, Idaho has one thanks to the massive surplus left by the Army.

What will happen in 10 years when the new generation of drones will replace the old ones?
And I am not talking Predator drones, there are literally more scout drones, that can survey an area 24/7 for days without refueling.
And even if you don't buy into that harsh scenario of constant surveillance, what if people demand more ground drones because this saves cop lives?
The large corporations will lobby it too to get their hardware off the shelves.
And please do tell me how you fight a ground drone with your HD arsenal should there ever be the need to.

Civilians will always be on the shit end of the stick. Even if everything was legal for civilians, civilians would be on the shit end of the stick. That has not changed. If it comes down to a situation where it's not just a fucked up individual lashing out, and there aren't better options, then it is more likely I will be critical, and possibly feel some cause for fear.
Until then, no.

>I stand up for my rights and the rights of others you stupid fuck
No, you don't. If you did then you wouldn't be supporting the police killing someone when they were not in harms way. This is literally summary execution without trial. The only reason police are normally allowed to use lethal force is if they are in danger and that goes out the window when they people doing the killing are not in danger at the time and are killing the suspect with a robot remotely. You don't get to make the argument that they would be in danger if they acted therefor they can preemptively use lethal force, otherwise that's no different then doing a drone strike on someone's home in place of a no knock raid because they have a weapon and could fight back posing a danger to police.

At the point when they killed him he wasn't an immediate threat. They could have driven in with one of those MRAPs and if he raised his rifle towards them the cops are free to light him up.

Is the bomb robot considered an officer now and was within it's right to self defense?

>It's impossible to wait someone out, people have to go to work and support the economy!

Shutting down a few blocks is a massive pain in the ass, but so long as these standoffs continue to result in summary executions, they aren't going to be understood at the root cause, we'll just lump them together with the terrorists and ignore the source issues. Failing to try to take someone alive, particularly after murdering multiple other people on little other than suspicion, does not in any way prevent future cop-killing sprees.

Go to Europe and open your ass to sand nigger hoards if that is your opinion of how terrorists should be treated

It's a no win situation at least in terms of dealing with active shooters.

If you manage to talk them down they still killed a shitton of people and they will be a martyr in prison and be able to spread thier bullshit ie. Charles Manson, if you kill them outright after making an attempt at negotiation you also have a martyr but at least it would deter people who think it's a way to a comfy cell and a book deal.

a good chunk of officers are vets actually. It part of the reason why law enforcement is moving towards straight enforcement with near no attempts at community policing. Can't really expect grunts to understand the latter
