I want something not fuddly and I've narrowed my choices to 2 similar weapons.
H&K91
Or
FnFAL
Both obviously in 308 and with a similar price tag, my choice is difficult
>inb4 assorted rhodesian bushwar references

>>30540502
AR-10
>>
Personally I say FAL. It's...gorgeous
>>
I like the HK91. It was my personal choice. But Sa/k/uya and the shitposters from /BRG/ will be here any second telling you how shit the HK is and how you're an idiot for considering it. My advice is to not ask /k/. Watch videos, read reviews, etc.

Hahahahaha no. Just get a PTR, OP. You'll be much happier with the purchase. It's only an extra $200 new.
>>
>>30540502
Get an FNAR. It's nearly the same weight, ready for optics, much better metal and finish. Downside is mags are expensive.

PTRs are objectively better in the accuracy and weight categories. But as this anon said:

>>30540842

The FNAR is where the best poorfag .308 is at. Love my PTR, but the FNAR is lovely and cheap.

Why would you pay $60 for a magazine when you can get HK91 mags for $3 a pop? That's not jewing, it's just being poor and knowing where your priorities lie.
>>
>OP here.
I'm not into the FNAR's at all. However the more I look at it I will say it would probably be a PTR rather than an HK91
>>
>>30540970
PTR and HK91 are identical, save for the elusive HK roll mark on the receiver. Get the PTR, OP. If you truly want an FAL, save up for the SA58 for $2000 and don't get the monkey model Voyager. You'll be far more happy with the full version.
>>
>Poorfag
>Wants a semi auto .308

I seriously don't understand you people. You have to scrape together paycheck after paycheck for months to afford a $1000 gun but then you want to spend ~$0.60 a round. It's extremely counter intuitive.
>>
>>30541057
Some people just have a need for a big round, lad. .308 is far more satisfying to shoot than .223 imo.

its got such a nice push. And when it hits steel... it doesnt just flick it, it makes that bitch say its name

id totally buy a new ptr with the paddle mag
>>
>>30540682
Fuuuuuck no, OP. Do not do this. I know Century gets a bad rap, but the C308 is actually crap. The best, most economical option is an AR10. If you have $1200 to blow, get a PTR. If you have $1500, you can afford a FAL, but a PTR is just as good.
>>
>>30540682
I am highly satisfied with my c308. All the haters can suck a cock. I'm looking at you sakyua.
>>
>>30540502
Ptr.
Mags are 3-5 bucks a pop. Eats everything. Isn't maintenance intensive. Railed version for optics. Paddle mag release for manlets.

Just as accurate if not more so than FAL builds. More reliable. Simple to break down and clean. HK slap. Tutonic testicle trembler.
>>
>>30543705

Or people who want the ability to remove magazines easily/ don't have 9 inch long index fingers.

91 obvi. G3 > FAL all day everyday

An FAL had always been my dream gun since shooting my uncle's, and I find HK91s ugly, so it was an easy choice for me.

You should be able to find a deal if you scour armslist. I wasn't in a hurry to buy one, so I'd search Armslist every few weeks and up popped a clean Imbel build for $1000. I offered $900 and he accepted.

This, this so much.

FALs that are available for that $1k price tag are typically either garage builds or Voyagers. Garage builds can be some of the best rifles out there, but they're getting increasingly hard to find and they have their share of lemons.

Safe bet = PTR.

Just be sure to not paint it.
>>
>>30540502
Where do you even find FALs? Are they all parts kits?
>>
>>30545744
Mine is a parts kit garage build. Imbel on Imbel, using proper tools and correctly headspaced w/ proper size locking shoulder. It wasn't cheap. I spent around $1200 for all of the parts and another $200 for the proper tools
>>
>>30545786
Is it easier to do yourself or should I just have a gunsmith do it?
>>
>>30545744
That or DSA.

IIRC DSA is the only company still making new production FALs these days, aside from maybe IMBEL in Brazil.

>>30545800
Not the guy you responded to, but the hardest part is the gas tube and barrel installation. Once that gets all locked in, the rest is almost AR15-level easy.

A lot of people here will do it themselves because the average Texas gunsmith doesn't even know what an FAL looks like, let alone what tools are required to properly assemble it.

It really just comes down to whether or not the extra few hundred dollars you'd spend on labor is enough to justify doing it yourself to save money.
>>
>>30545839
If i fuck is it reversible?
>>
>>30545800
It isn't hard to do at home, you just need a strong vice and the right tools for the job. The most important part is timing Th barrel correctly and then measuring headspace, but any person with basic math/reasoning skills can figure it out.

Here's a video of Flandre building 2 FAL rifles, one inch and one metric:

https://youtu.be/jNckPmFKNRo

Also, head to falfiles.com and read up. Knowledge is power, and they know everything there is to know about the rifles
>>
>>30545864
Thanks! Y'all are great
>>
>>30545839
I agree with this guy, the gas system can be a bitch to install. The tube needs to be "loose" but still tight enough that it will stay. A too tight tube will prevent cycling of the piston
>>
>>30545623
Holy shit. I was looking at that thing like "what the fuck is up with this snake? why does it have a tumor in its neck and why is it throwing up greenbeans and eating a piece of tape?"
>>
>>30545879
No problem. Check out these links as well, they'll come in handy if you consider building a kit:

http://www.faltools.com- Tools for barrel installation, ask about timing rods as well

http://www.gunthings.com- I ordered my kit from here, Brad is good people.

http://www.cruffler.com/trivia-April01-assembly.html- Good info on lower disassembly/headspacing

I mean, it screws in and people change barrels pretty frequently. There's a video from DSA somewhere that shows them taking the barrel and gas system of of an SA58 and putting on a pistol length barrel and gas system, so I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that if you do fuck up, you can just unscrew it and go for a redo.

As a FALfag, imma tell you to get an FAL. I like garage guns myself (although I have not built one yet, I do own one) because the use of milsurp parts adds some neat history that you won't get from a PTR or a DSA. Plus, you get that sweet, sweet 1:12 twist.

Just don't paint it.

>>30545891
Skinker-dinker is a lovely Tiliqua Scincoides Intermedia who loves his protein pellets very much.

>>30545992
DSA.
>>
I got a PTR with the steel receiver, paddle release and welded rail for like 800. I'm pretty happy with it desu. Only complaint is that the finish comes off kinda easy but that's my own fault for abusing it I guess.
>>
>>30546002
Will the receiver count as an AOW just like an AK receiver?
>>
>>30546030
I wasn't aware that any receiver by itself was considered an AOW before it was manufactured into a weapon.
>>
>>30546108
I tried buying an AK receiver not too long ago and the gun store told me it was am AOW and I couldn't purchase it since I'm 20.
>>
>>30546141
In Texas, most places won't sell you an AR lower if you are under 21 because it could be manufactured into a pistol, but I've never heard of the AOW thing.
>>
>>30546157
That's what they told me. They said is. Could be made into a pistol so therefore its legally and AOW and I can't buy it.
>>
>>30540502
>FAL
A little less accurate and a little less prone to choking.
>G3
A little more accurate and a little more prone to choking

The G3 types can be accuratized better, but their ergonomics kind of suck for a bench rifle.
>>
>>30546268
>choking

Do you mean jamming? Failing to feed? Extract?

Because that's bullshit
>>
>>30546141
>>30546108
It's a weird system. You CAN submit a 4473 as a rifle lower but then you cannot make it into a pistol. However most people do it as a pistol. It's never been solidly confirmed by case law, but most FFLs play it safe because by the ATF someone 18-20 can only purchase a rifle or shotgun. So basically you can't own any other classification and lowers are kinda treated differently even if you submit them to be assembled as a rifle.
>>
>>30546157
>but still sells complete AR that can be used for same task
>>
>>30546645
Should I just buy SA58 then?
>>
>>30546719
>SA58
That's an SBR and you'd need to pay your tax stamp and must be over 21 because it's not considered a long gun rifle/shotgun.
I believe you can get a lower with a stock and be fine. Really just get a PTR91 or build an AR-10 from a pre-assembled rifle lower.
>>
>>30546770
21" is an SBR?
>>
>>30546811
I think he's meme-ing you, anon. FAL is a big girl.
>>
>>30546811

Fucking fags. Get a local builder to make an FAL.
