Anyone know if the ARES belt-fed AR uppers are a thing in Canada? I really want one.
>>
>>30535694
Contact Canada Ammo see if they can order you one.

Not sure if they are any here yet but uppers don't require classification so it all depends if Ares has them listed with ITAR for export.

If Canada ammo won't contact Ares directly and ask if the upper is ITAR listed if yes buy one states side and have IRGuns, Prophet river or Aztec armory to import it.

>>
>>30535790
yeah exactly, and outdoor ranges are shit because of target changes

the one long outdoor range here has a target change every 30 minutes so if you want to sight something in, it could take you all day and you still might not be finished, unless you have a spotting scope or something

Have any of you guys delt with shooters finest before? Their web page doesnt allow you to buy guns directly, you have to ask for a quote first. Ive done that twice now and no response either time. I would really like a gun they have that i can't find anywhere else anymore.

If not, where else might have those colt/deimaco c7s and c8s? I think they must be almost sold out by now.

How/Why does this happen?

The difference between a PAL application and an RPAL application is $20. Are there people who can only afford 3/4 of an RPAL application? If that's the case, what business do they have getting into a hobby that easily costs thousands of dollars?

I've got two questions for /k/anadian hunters in Ontario

I'm expecting my PAL/RPAL back in a few weeks. I'm doing my Hunter's Education Course + Wild Turkey course next week. I'm going on a canoe trip in late august with some friends along the French river.

1) Can I carry a nonrestricted firearm on my trip even if parts of the French River are designated as a provincial park? Can I harvest squirrel/rabbit?

My girlfriend's family recently purchased a cottage in Tobermory. Beautiful land. Thing is, looks like almost the entire Bruce Peninsula is either a National or Provincial park. Does anyone know of any hunting on the Bruce peninsula? I know Manitoulin island is a destination spot too, so if anyone knows anything about hunting up there, would appreciate some advice to someone new to the sport!

"Hunting
Yes except in the nature reserve zone."

Should be good
>>
>>30538550
Guy. You keep doing this in /k/anada threads.
Here's the thing though, there aren't actually many of us. I recognise revolver safety course guy from last thread and so on. In the last thread I bitched about Al Flaherty's and in the one before I freaked out about S-223 getting the second reading.

I honestly suspect /k/anada threads may be the exact same 20-30 people, if that many.

So basically, WE KNOW. Tok guy PROBABLY isn't really a cop, since he's been to meetups, but he does say some hinky shit, and it is funny to give him a hard time over it. But just screaming like an autist who thinks he's the modern canuck Paul Revere is not funny, just kinda spergy and sad. So cut it out please.

Anyhow... who here watches Letterkenny? That show is fuckin fantastic. Being from Northern Ontario, that show is so accurate it blows my friggin mind.
>>
>>30538747
kek it totally is just 20-30 regular guys.
>>
>>30538781
Man, if we all started tripfagging it would look real sad real fast. Like those fuckin /ARG/ Threads where 10 tripfags just circlejerk their way through 2 threads a day.

The saddest part about Letterkenny is that I knew guys trying to emulate the hick behavior/pretend to be of that lifestyle during high school, and I grew up in the GTA.

Good advice, thanks. On that note, because I'm getting licensed primarily for hunting, are these a good 3 to start with?

1. SKS (deer & large game)
2. Mossberg 500 (turkey and waterfowl)
3. AR-7 (Squirrel, rabbit and other small game)

I'd like something a bit heavier for large game, but the rest of the loadout seems fine to me.

>>
>>30538966
If you're looking at shorter ranges, .45-70 will do the job. .30-06 is a nice balanced round as an alternative (or something comparable). If you're talking really large game, you might want to look at something like 300 winmag and up (or just hot loads for the .30-06 and .45-70).

I'm a complete novice (I haven't been on a hunt yet) but I'd expect I'll be looking at hunting deer before I try my luck at moose. Is there a particular rifle in 45-70 or 30-06 you'd recommend?
>>
>>30539063
>.45-70
Marlin makes a guide gun in .45-70. Make sure you inspect it at the store first, as they have had spotty quality control. There are good used models out there if you look around. Chiappa costs a bit more, but they make a nice one, along with Winchester (expensive).

>.30-06
Lots of good options. On the budget side, Weatherby Vanguard/Howa 1500, the various Savages, Ruger American. Spend a bit more and there's the Tikka T3X, CZ 550, and many more.

How about Cabela's swag?

I live in BC, and I see people wearing that shit all the time in the Lower Mainland.

The first Cabela's in BC is located in Nanaimo, and its second store just opened in Abbotsford two weeks ago. So we barely have two stores and thousands of mainlanders are somehow covered in their logo.

4570 is a somewhat of a meme and there is no reason you should get it as your hunting rifle. even for bear defence there are better calibers.
read up on these articles
http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/.45-70+U.S+Government.html

they have them for literally every caliber

308 or 3006 are the obvious choices for all around hunting rifles. if youre hunting mainly deer you could go with a 243, 270, 25-06, 35 rem, 30-30, etc. to get somewhat better trajectories but that's up to you.

also, don't limit yourself to one retailer. there are a ton of gun stores througout canada that deal online as well. or you can buy used from the cgn ee. nothing wrong with cabelas, but grouse river for example has a much larger inventory.
>>
>>30538747
>I honestly suspect /k/anada threads may be the exact same 20-30 people, if that many.

You know the post counter on the bot. right also counts unique posters as well right?

It peaked at 60 once upon a time. But normally it's around 20-30 of us shitposting.
>>
>>30539714
If he's going to hunt large game, the extra case capacity of .30-06 will come in handy.

>>30539751
>.45-70
Seems fine to me.
>>
>>30539790

We usually get a bump when something significant happens.

I remember it going into triple digits last election, for instance.
>>
>>30539740
who knows m8

a lot of people like taking trips to those big box stores just to browse because large outdoor stores like that are kind of a rarity in canada (as compared to the states, where they have bass pro, cabelas, gander mountain, dick's, etc the list goes on)

but yea cabelas is in the same league as bass pro
>>
>>30538747
>I honestly suspect /k/anada threads may be the exact same 20-30 people, if that many.
That sounds like a reasonable number.

How many people fit this exact description:
>Canadian citizen/resident
>Firearms enthusiast
>Firearms owner
>Browses 4chan
There are many Canadians that are one or few of these things, but rarely are they all of them at the same time.

There is no big game in North America "besides Muskox" that .308 is to little gun for. The case capacity and bullet weight difference is marginal and not worth the added action length. Besides I don't think anon is going to be reloading any time soon.
>>
>>30539790
I lurk via Clover app while at work all day.
It doesn't show that info, and doesn't hide posts, unfortunately.

>>30539867
Fair nuff. I suspect I know a /k/ommando IRL, but have not been able to confirm it yet. He just knows too much board lore. I guess he could also just be a regular on CGN instead, but he used the term czechnology once in conversation.
>>
>>30539951
Big grizzlies up north and the real baddies up in Alaska need more gun than .308. Also, there are some good .30-06 factory loadings nowadays. Finally, the case capacity and bullet weight differences are not marginal- especially with 200 and 220 grain bullets.
>>
>>30539867

>>

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that you're a braver man (or a better tracker) than me if you try. Not that being a braver man than me is a big challenge.
>>
>>30540266
For my needs, I just don't see the advantage of the extra capability over the additional cost (including shorter barrel life). Other people will have different results depending on their shooting, of course.
>>
>>30540253
with dangerous animals the name of the game is insta-kills, which are certainly possible with 308. but, as you get into more effective calibers designed for dangerous game you get more room for error in terms of shot placement, which is very important in a scenario where you need an insta-kill on the first shot
>>
>>30536647

Could be worse, but look for something with more ompf than 7.62x39mm. Not a bad round by any stretch and it will put down deer with accurate shot placement, but if I ever run into a pissed off bear or a pissed off bull moose I'd want want a little more assurance. Maybe a Moisin Nagant if you can find one in good shape since they are even cheaper than an SKS but fire a larger round.

Also, consider loading the Mossberg with big fuckoff-heavy slugs like pic related.
>>
>>30539131
Consider looking at Prairie Gun Traders out of Avonlea Saskatchewan. I always shill for them because they have the best prices I've seen anywhere on short-barrel stuff and they are a breeze to deal with. I've also heard great things about their warranty service if things go wrong but I've never had something go wrong.

Ther are also several gun stores in BC worth checking out as well. Basically what I'm saying is PRICE MATCH! You can get any shop in Canada to ship directly to your door so why not look around at as many shops as possible? Cabela's is fine during a sale or if you want to fingerfuck something to see if you like it but don't just take their price as best.

He usually goes to the Woodstock show, I think Markham too but I may be wrong. Also, and I think it may be just M1 Garand parts, but something called Vulcan Surplus I think, I don't remember the name exactly, but it is supposed to carry all the parts necessary to build an M1, maybe you can find M14 parts there.

Here's a really stupid question.
I own a small business. Are there any circumstances where I can keep a NR long gun behind the counter? Would I have to gimp it into being unusable for actual defence (unloaded, trigger lock on?)
I assume it's a strict "No" but if it isn't I'll check with my local police for further clarification. My business has been broken into twice so I'm in a shitty neighbourhood (whole town is shit though) and I don't want to take chances.
>>
>>30548409

Laws say either: trigger/cable/bolt removed locked
Or
Locked in a container/safe/cabinet.

Either way you will have to load the weapon if you are able to remove the lock or remove it from the locked container. Not good for self defense.

Locked in a safe means in a container that counts as a safe. So putting a sideways safe cabinet under the counter with a really fast lock (combo lock, already complete?)
And a prepared mag in a handy lockable drawer...
So, it sounds complicated, but with practise you could probably be loaded and armed pretty quickly. While still following the law.

Now if you wanted to be risky, and I am not saying you should, you are allowed to have a gun out of storage to clean or "admire" it. So if you shot an intruder, and had all the proper storage on hand, maybe you were lucky enough to have had it out to admire it precisely when the attempted robbery occurred? That would be really good luck, right? Something to think about is all.

I have my pistol in a small safe beside my bed.
Beep-beep-boop-boop-beep-click - open door - grab pistol - grab mag - jam mag in - drop slide - assume tactical operator stance - ready to rock.

Much more convenient then fumbling to get the lock off your NR, going to the area where your ammo/mags are stored, loading, assuming operator stance.

Get a safe big enough to fit your NR in.

>difference between the Glock gens?
Generally the shape/appearance/features of the frame.

For example, a G17 Gen4 has square-shaped knurls all around the grip, and the magazine release can be switched to either side.

The Gen 3 is only knurled on the front & back of the grip, and the sides aren't. Magazine release is right-handed only.

>How to decide on first semi-auto pistol? They seem expensive as fuck up here.
Few options:

>military surplus
>generally under $500
>downsides are that they take obscure calibers (unless it's a German pistol, in which case you might have a chance at finding 9mm, which is the most common handgun caliber ever)

>new Chinese pistols
>purportedly "not bad"
>you might feel nervous about this purchase if you're skeptical about those sneaky Chinese

>Walther PPX
>brand new German pistol
>actually good quality
>an entire range kit is like $540
>downside: the reason it's so cheap is because it's discontinued. Good luck finding parts for it

>Zastava M70A
>Serbian clone of the Russian Tokarev TT-33
>new production
>only slightly more expensive than a Tok
>available in the usual 7.62x25 (remember what I said about old military pistols and funny calibers) and even the ubiquitous 9mm
>get this if you don't want to carry the shame of owning a real Tok/being mistaken for a cop
>>
>>30551783
One more:
>Smith & Wesson SD9VE
>a lot of people say "good pistol, awful trigger"
>apparently it's perfect if you get a trigger job done on it
>>
>>30551783
Star model b
>1911 Ergos

>>
>>30551819
I personally ponied up the cash for a Glock, due to its versatility.

>unbelievable amounts of parts & accessories, both OEM & aftermarket
>some magazines are compatible with multiple models

>some magazines are compatible with other unrelated firearms (see: TNW ASR, KRISS Vector, Just Right Carbine, Kel-Tec Sub-2000, etc.)

My instructor guy recommended a .22 Savage, but I haven't really decided yet. I kind of want something a little bigger and heavier for target shooting and maybe hunting if I end up getting into that.
>>
>>30555299
one thing to keep in mind if you're new to shooting and guns in general is ammo cost ,do you know how much a box 500rd box of 22lr costs? 45-50$
around 8-10 cents/rd ,while larger rounds can vary from 50-2.50 a shot, one of the big reasons people learn on 22lr ,get familiar without breaking the bank, also find your ammo cost before buying a gun ,great to find a good used gun for cheap ,shitty not being able to afford to shoot it,milsurp is also good for this as the ammo can be bought in bulk for cheaper,7.62x39 300$ for 1440ish roughs out to 21c/rd .know your costs. lecture over
>>
>>30555474

I hadn't actually priced it out, but I do understand that rimfire .22 is a lot cheaper than larger cartridges. Point taken though, that's a pretty significant difference.

I just know that with other hobbies everyone recommends you start out small and then I end up regretting not going bigger in the first place. Like buying a 250CC motorcycle that I outgrew in a month.
>>
>>30555604
it's a little different with guns in my opinion ,different calibers are fun in different ways, variety is nice shooting the same gun over and over again with no break up can get a tad bit monotonous ,odds are unless the gun is just plain bad or tedious to shoot that you will never "outgrow" it,nothing wrong with getting a nice collection going, just remember not to go overboard on quantity>quality and i would say not to buy any gun for less if you plan on buying something that will fill its "place" later because of current money situation.
>>
>>30555604

That's why I bought a 9mm pistol instead of a .22
>>
>>30555690

That's good to know. I have nephews too, once I'm more experienced a .22 might be a good thing to start them on as well (if my sister approves, anyway.)

I don't plan on buying any cheap shit, I've learned that it's generally more cost effective to pay the premium for quality the first time around.

>>30555774

I am planning to get both. Thinking about a P226.

>Like buying a 250CC motorcycle that I outgrew in a month.
I envy you, in some respects.

I have a Ninja 250, and I still haven't outgrown it. I still lack the balls to upgrade to anything bigger, and I'm too comfortable with how cheap the insurance is ($79 a month).
>>
>>30555857

I had a Rebel 250, I think the Ninja is a little more fun to play with. It's a great bike.

I had a ZR550 and then a CBR600. I haven't got a bike now, it's been a couple of years, but I'm looking to get into it again. I'm a little more cautious these days so I wouldn't mind a 400CC cafe racer or something like that, just a nimble little weekend toy.
>>
>>30555796
a couple other misc. things that might help,

i
f you dont buy or use a safe and use triggerlocks go with the combination ones rather than keyed locks as its more convenient to dial the three digit code rather than rifle through 1-10 similar keys every time you want in.

bore snakes are a great time saver and they save some mess, those cotton cleaning pads add up after a while, if you shoot dirty ammo or shoot milsurp that will need to be cleaned often due to non-chrome lined barrels.

Lots of ranges want your guns cased and locked when your bring them in ,so be sure to pick a few up even if there cheap soft cases ,they do the job.

youtube is a great resource for gun disassembly if you're not great with manuals or puzzles.

buying some ammo cans to lug around what you shoot isn't a bad investment as it keeps everything together and makes it easy to carry the plastic plano cases wont do much to keep someone determined out ,but a little masterlock will keep looky loos and minors out ,and they seem to be able to withstand being fully loaded and carried around.

mess around with new guns at home before taking them to the range ,do everything shot of shooting live rounds through them, snap caps can be a good way to learn your way around a rifle if you dont make it out to the range much, better to find out how to make it work at home with the internet at your hands then flustered at the shooting lane ,you can also make your own, just be sure to remove the primer and powder and to mark them so no confusion takes place.

shit, goodnight hope some of this stuff helps.

When I was looking at .22 pistols at my LGS they had both. The Mosquito is obviously much cheaper, but it will only ever be a .22. The .22 P226 was only a bit cheaper than a normal model, but if you found the upper bits you'd essentially have two guns in one

I bought 3 firearms from Canadaammo, about the same time. A backpacker in 16 gauge, an outlaw that was damaged for $150 and a JW25. The barrel on the outlaw had a dent in the end and I fixed it quick with a hammer and a large drift pin. I went out and was most excited to try the JW25, (I liked the Mauser look on the little .22) it was nothing short of impressive for a Chinese rifle. Light trigger, fair finish, and accurate and sighted in out of the box. I then wanted to try the backpacker, so I fired a couple of shots at some clays and handed it off to my dad. He then fired a shot and pulled it from his shoulder to load another and the stock twisted. Turns out it cracked and then was then pretty loose fitting from there on. The rest of the day comprised of plinking with .22s and our respective 12 gauges. I got home and taped up the grip and it seemed steady so I was alright with it. I then went to put it to my shoulder and cock it again and the hammer made one extra click and went slack and pulling the trigger did nothing. The safety later popped out and rolled under the deep freeze and I learned the lesson of "if seems too good to be true, then it is doubly so if it's Chinese."

The Outlaw and JW25 are recommended though, my dad the most fuddiest of fudds with a hatred of Chinkshit loves the JW25 himself. He asks for it when the rabbits are getting into the gardens all the time.

But if you're hauling gear from moderate distances, just buy one of those gardening carts, or get it used from kijiji or something.

I've heard it's a decent base for building a match-grade 1911, but you'd probably spend more altogether on parts than if you just bought a good 1911 to begin with.

Im terrible with distances but its definitely more than 250m, so about 1/2ish kilometer. And it doesn't sound like much pic related is what we carried last time and there was only 5 of us and we did it all in one trip

Usually companies have a generic insurance of somewhere around $100 unless otherwise noted. Im not familiar with canada posts insurance, but thats a pretty common amount.

what's the deal with the new firearms bill? i thought it was dead in the water. who/why did/would re sponsor this gobbledegook? you don't think it has a chance in hell do you?
>>
>>30558824
I still like my Tok. Just that the 34 is better in pretty much every way. But I'd like to buy a second TT, retire mine, and modify the new one to address the issues I have, like the grip angle, or the ass-tier sights. With a few upgrades, though, it'd be a fine choice. I just have a few other guns I want to buy first.
>>
>>30560164
Some B.C. cunt sponsored it. It has little chance. But it's a good idea to keep an eye on it and shit on people who even think of supporting it.

Op has a link to Bill S-223.

tl;dr version:
>You can keep hunting guns at home
>Hunting guns are shotguns and .22lrs
>All other guns have to be stored at central repositories
>Every gun needs an "inscription" certificate
>It's not called a registry because gun owners are stupid and won't know that it is just a registry.
>>
Went to Firearms Outlet Canada in Ajax, nice little place, quite small. Held the Glock 34, has a nice balance to the weight and isn't as heavy as say the Glock 17. They're going to have Rock Island Armory 1911s in on Monday for around 850$, contemplating getting one since they're cheaper than other 1911s. Glock 40 or 17L in the future for me, definitely.
>>
>>30560830

Oh, thanks. What the fuck that is retarded.

>I want to go shooting this weekend
>Better make an appointment to withdraw my pistol from the repository

We already have thorough background checks and storage rules, and little to no fucking gun crime. This is totally unnecessray.

in addition to all the people who, though they might not support this particular effort, favor gun-grabbing in general. If you've never met these people, consider yourself lucky.

Same. I just hate that people blindly side with ideology instead of thinking things through, regardless of how left or right wing that ideology is.

ITAR is mostly on a whim, they keep adding and removing what is covered all the time. Export of shotguns is slightly different because it's handled by a different agency (Dept. of Commerce instead of Dept. of State). Here is the latest ITAR stuff:

Depends on the province. Also depends on if you are hunting or just blasting.
>>
>>30560867
It was never about crime. Guns make people insecure about their own mortality and the (very low in Canada, thank God) chance they may have to defend their life from some asshole or a dangerous animal. Also, some people just like making sure the population is disarmed.

Sup fellow /k/anadians. Can anybody tell me where I could get SCAR 17 and HK293? I looked everywhere on the canadian forums about the legality of these firearms but all I could find where posts and threads in the forums that where 6 years old. So does anybody know whats up about these two? I found SCAR 17 at al flaherty's, but it was chambered in .22. Any info and help will be greatly appreciated

That's not a SCAR dude, it's an ISSC Mk22.

Its FRT application was rejected, I think, but it isn't Prohib, per se. There's currently another application in progress.

That's nothing, I've seen more foolish things.

>tfw took a classroom course

>hell, this was 2014, he could've challenged the exam (he was already an experienced hunter, just wanted guns of his own now)
>>
>>30564236

The course I took was sort of similar. The first 7 or 8 hours was NR, and then if you'd only signed up for NR training you could leave. There was about 2 hours spent on restricted, and time to check out all different types of pistols. There were about a half dozen people who peaced out before the R portion. I think it was a difference of $30 or so, I don't really get why you wouldn't just do it all at once. You're already there.

Although I think a few of them were teenagers, I assume that you have to be 21 or something to get the R designation.
>>
>>30564538
I wasn't a big fan of the extra restrictions on restricted firearms when I took my course. Then I got to try handguns a year after getting my license and then I wish I had gotten it.

I think I'll just take the R course when my license is getting closer to expiring I guess, then it's like getting it renewed.
>>
>>30564589

Yeah, there are a lot of hassles involved in owning one, but I figured it's always better to have more certifications and qualifications whether you end up wanting to exercise them or not.

Gunstore where I live had a siamese mauser for sale for so long I decided what the hell I will pay $300 for a gun that I can't fire but is neato historically

I call them turns out since it hasn't been sold and was posted on their site for so long it was 199 instead of 300

feels good
>>
>>30563377

Our laws are fucked, but they're objectively looser in most ways to California's.
>>
>>30563377
CA here, can confirm that I'm jelly of Canadian gun law, especially since the gunpocolypse.

>MFW no ammo licence
>MFW can buy uncucked semi auto rifles
>MFW no handgun roster
>MFW no cuck buttons
>MFW SBR's

I would trade CA's gun laws for Canada's in a heartbeat.
>>
>>30563377
Didn't cali just ban semi autos with easily detachable magazines? I'm sorry, but I've seen too many photos on /k/ of NY and Cali-legal AR's to believe that we have it worse than they do..
>>
Do you still need a gun club membership to transport a restricted weapon? BC here.

So do I need some kind of special paper to pick up a firearm from the post office?

So I just did my restricted course today, how long till I can apply for rpal? when will I get my exam confirmation?
>>

here's a long shot. Is anyone here a member of the CFB Borden rod and gun? I want to shoot on the ranges here but from what i gather they only meet up a few times a year. Do I have to adhere to those days or are the ranges open all year on weekends or something? Where do I store my rifles because you obviously can't have them in your barracks
>>
>>30565657
that's what I figured.
