But muh fragmentation velocity and effective fragmentation distance! Even though crane carefully measured velocity at the inception of the mk18 concept and included it in the presentation, these guns are cqb and entry weapons, the effective fragmentation velocity is disputed and runs as low as 2300 ft/s, and the precise effect of fragmentation on real world lethality on well nourished Western hemisphere actors rather than ballistics gel or starving Mujahideen is unlikely to be the limiting factor for these guns

Nothing, I have several. My first one was from their very first batch--the SN is <60.

True, I mean I'd been in the infantry for like 4 years at that point so I knew a little; I just hadn't ever built an AR so I didn't know about barrel profile, twist rate, etc.

That rifle has morphed into my current SBR setup over the years.

Makes sense. I've dumped plenty of money into an MRP with 18" RC SS barrel and now this BCM 18" Mk12 clone. Supposedly both are 1/2 MOA guns, and I'd believe it seeing some of the results from shooters more talented than myself on those two rifles, but given my go-to is CBC 77gr OTM and my own skills, I never expect to outshoot even mediocre rifles under most conditions.

If you're not going for a precision bench gun, then free floating doesn't really matter a lick as your ammo, own abilities and the posture(s) you shoot from will outweigh the negligible gains from free floating. My worthless .02 anyway.

Just tell them what you intend to use it for and they'll be able to deduce what needs to be done. They did a function check on mine for a hundred rounds to see if the port needed enlarging after they cut down my 16" mid to a 14.5". Dunno if they can do the same, but it sure as shit wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yep. A $375 rail for $187.50 that I literally cannot find a blemish on. If there is one you can find they are generally inconsequential. With Geissele anyway. Different outfits have different meaning when they say "blemish"
>>

Should I email them before sending it off or just include my wants/needs in the comments of my order?

So far all I've put was that I want the gas block pinned and installed ($55).

>>30536343
I'd shoot them an e-mail before sending it off. Also make sure you follow the instructions they have about sending your barrel in, they will send your shit to the bottom of the to-do list if you make them waste their time.

No it is not. Look into it, you will see that a short flute long form factor center cutting 1/4 diameter square end mill is required for anyone cutting the trigger pocket.

I have extensive machining experience. You will be surprised at the OAL required to avoid contact with any of the major commercial jigs or the buffer tower. See for yourself.

Here is another version from the other leading jig manufacturer.

Look around, but a 4 inch, short flute length center cutter that is carbide that will last forever is hard to find. Too long of a cutting length will chatter on you and fuck up your trigger slot, giving a wobbly trigger, and it's the last step, so if you fuck up there the lower is done.

Also, remember, the drill bits are the cheap widely available items, not the end mills. So there is logic to buying the purpose specific end mill and getting the drill bits from any ol' hardware store.

Suit yourself though, I'm just trying to give a /k/ member a good deal off manufacturer price, like last week when I sold a KAC on here for a great discount.

No prob. It's hard to get into because the information is spread all over the place. The best sources are the manuals and videos from the jig manufacturers if you're using a drill press. If you're using a mill let me know.

>>30537627
>are the mills from 80% lower good
Generally any end mill with the proper characteristics will get the job done well. For materials carbide>cobalt>high speed steel. Not sure if you're the same anon as above but I'm selling a new unused end mill at a discount so let me know.

>>30537627
>what bits do you suggest
See the pic in >>30537072
Make sure the drills are brand new or very sharp, otherwise you will need to use reamers as well. You can consider using a transfer punch and/or #3 starter bit with a drill press but it's not strictly necessary. It's worth using new or very sharp bits for the trigger/safety selector holes because their tolerances are very tight.

Here are some mistakes people make when milling. Don't be one of these people:

"When I went to drill the holes for the trigger guard the table tilted slightly throwing the hole off."

"The drill stop was loose and I drilled through the floor of the trigger pocket."

Make sure everything is tightened down, including the work piece, tooling, fixtures, or the machine itself.
Don't get dyslexic and mix up numbers in the sepcs.

Don't forget to reset depth gauges on tool changes.

Use a ton of WD40 when drilling.

When drilling, drill only one drill diameter down at a time then raise the bit to clear out chips.

Don't accidentally run into your clamps or jig with the bit or end mill.

Double check specs before doing anything. Recheck between steps. If something looks off, check everything again before going any further.

Use a squared press, tight chuck, sharp quality tooling.

GUYS

I have a question regarding ATF ruling 41f which removes CLEO signature on NFA forms, and substitutes a requirement for "notification."

Is there any information on what shape this notification should take? Do I photocopy my Form 1 and include a letter stating my intent and that this constitutes fulfillment of my obligation to notify? Do I just send a letter saying "hey chief I'm building an NFA gun" and leave it at that?

Got the geiselle super 42 spring. Works as advertised and seems solid. Will put more ammo through it to test it more.

Nothing new AR related in forever, all my limited gun money has been going towards my soon-to-be-mine P228

Plus I'm pretty satisfied with this setup tbqh, I still want a B5 SOPMOD eventually but it can wait

That is a pretty good price. Good job. I need to get a knife. I hate being such a city boy at heart. I've got 4 firearms and I still don't own a fucking pocket knife.

It is okay. Honestly man I'd skip it though. It has had one section of stitching break and one plastic strap bit break as well.

What the fuck am I looking at. You've got some weird fucking gimmick stock, no dust cover, only a rear sight, a railed gas block, and a suppressor? I'm very confused.
Jealous of the can though. Not jealous of that stock.

What is /arg/s take on hammer-forged barrels? Are they actually beneficial or what?
I've got one friend saying to get one, and another friend saying HF barrels are a meme.
