.500 S&W Magnum and .500 S&W Special are relatively stout loads, lots of gunpowder and a fairly heavy projectile.
The recoil is sharp I imagine, and it probably smells quite a bit from the gunpowder.

The recoil is usually less than your average non-ported .357 magnum because they have like an inch and a half of porting.
