Could the Germans have reasonably built these tanks if they were

Say WW2 ended in whatever fashion that would have allowed Hitler and Nazi Germany to survive as an entity, victory or peace treaty, it doesn't matter.

Obviously the Landkreuzer ideas would not have worked as is. And even the Maus had a ton of technical issues.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreuzer_P._1000_Ratte

But you know, with the 1940s continuing on and into the 50s and so on, could advancements in tankery make the Maus and the Landkreuzer a reality?

In real life the MBT was where things went, but if you are Hitler, you do what you want anyways, so there's the drive to build it. The Maus I think would have worked given more time, and even the Landkreuzer could be possible if it were slimmed down and less insanely huge. It would not have been exactly worth the effort compared to making MBTs, but whatever, rule of cool.

Sure, if you want something that can go 1mph on a prepared surface.
>>
>>30529044
No, but we would have had E-50s
>>
This? With hitler? Yes.

We would probably still see a standardization of armor in the e-50 though.
>>
>>30529044
The allies would've just driven around it, crossed a bridge and let it run itself out of gas.

No it was ridiculous from the start. Krupp only draw it up to please Hitler and get extra funding.

What a stupid concept in an age of airpower. What kind of child thinks these are good ideas?

I wish there were at least one. A flagship for tanks, if you will. Even if the only thing it ever amounts to is dick waving.

I didn't read up on Billy Boy's last thread. Do they seriously build a fucking Ratte in it?
>>
>>30529044
What was the Battlefield or Medal Of Honor mod that had one map that was allies assaulting a Ratte?
>>
>>30529519
That was the Forgotten Hope mod for 1942.

FH2 for BF2 was a god tier mod too.

Chromehounds had absurd 'secret' weapons you could fight, including a giant railway gun and land carriers.

But it's also content you'll never see again since Sega axed the servers.

They also need shit loads of fuel and logistical support to operate. These were not luxuries Germany had late in the war.

This but KV-2 style turret with a railway gun in the turret.

I always thought the T-95 was a interesting story. As it seems to be that the sole reason for it was to scare the Germans. As it was endlessly photographed and touted as the Tiger killer.
>>
>>30529727
There were plenty of things killing Tigers at that point.
>>
>>30529727
I tought its sole reason was to destroy fortifications on the Siegfried line

I've never seen any real evidence to indicate they even wanted to build the Ratte at all.
How would a naval turret even work on a tank hull?
It isn't like a tank turret where you just have a turret with a basket beneath it.
>>
>>30529436

To be fair to Hitler, he was stoned out of his mind when he gave this project the get-go.
>>
>>30531520
What if all his advisors and generals were going all "yeah Hitler, suuuuuure great idea, what could possibly go wrong?" at all the wunderwaffe-meetings, but Adolf really never got sarcasm thus giving the go-ahead for all of them....
>>
>>30529044

These massive tanks would only be valuable in cities, with good roads.

That said, imagine if you had these giant fucking moving bunkers to protect cities your lighter tanks capture.

They'd have to topple a building on top of you.

Why do people take every German experimental concept as a serious effort while British and American ones that are just as insane are completely ignored.
>>
>>30531576
Because the Allies knew their wonder weapons were retarded. The Germans actually attempted to build the Maus and E100
>>
>>30529044

While the Kibg Tiger and Maus were just too heavy for their engines, could modern improvements in materials and power mean they could at least function? Regardless of how impractical the machine is asan actual weapon it'd be kinda cool to see one moving.
>>
>>30531607
Tiger II was a similar weight to an Abrams.
Even if the technology was there, Germany just had a bad habit of underpowering their tanks. Ironic given the emphasis on blitzkrieg.
>>
>>30531627
It was more that they kept making their designs heavier through the development. The Panther is a prime example of this.

>yfw no King Tiger transmission on the Panther
>>
>>30531642
Yeah, and they weren't the only ones to do it of course. It just hurt them the hardest.
Not good when your tank engines are so overloaded that you lose more to breakdowns and lack of spare parts than enemy action.
>>
>>30531576

>>30529044
They could have built them. But it would eat up their resources and knowing Nazi logistics they would have broken down a couple of hundred kilometres from the front and been abandoned due to lack of spare parts. Add to that the fact that the Landkreuzer would basically only be able to function as a (rather large) self-propelled howitzer due to the gun not being able to depress enough to engage targets directly in a battlefield and you've got yourself a good ol' waste of resources.
>>
>>30531576
I think since the allies won, the Axis projects just have that certain 'what if' kind of alternative world-ish mystery to them.
>>
>>30529356
The kind that lost the war.
