Just watched Steve devour a Russian Spetsnaz MRE and he raved about it. So, which country has the best MREs?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgICbOwP7NQ
>>
The US is apparently on the verge of making the first MRE pizza that works.
>>
>>30528953
hahaha... they've been promising a pizza for a decade at the very least. I remember them saying the exact same thing in 2011.
>>
>>30528941
I appreciate what he does but I couldn't care less about what he thinks of the taste when it's not old as shit.
>>
>>30528941
A lot of packaging for what amounts to a few powdered drinks, crackers and some processed meat and cheese.
>>
>>30528985
couldn't care less about old shit. If I wanted to watch jackass-style shit to gross me out, I'd pick another channel. I watch his shit because I always buy MREs when I come across them and store them for a possible SHTF/disaster type scenarios.
>>
>>30529007
it's 5000 calories dummy. tons of items. just look at the pic in OP.
>>
>>30528974
http://taskandpurpose.com/the-pizza-mre-is-finally-coming/

They're saying a 2017 release date.

I want it to be true.
>>
I don't think anyone is qualified to answer this, most field rations are not for sale or they're commericalized versions.

Best MRE is like saying 'best military truck'. They're all shitty and specific to military requirements and all inferior to commercial alternatives.
>>
>>30529041
It's just cheese, meat and crackers with coolaid and some candies. one gorillion calories or not.

>>30529122

>>
>>30529065
is there a more "commercialized" MRE alternative thats packed up liek this?
>>
>>30529020
I'm not watching to be 'grossed-out' friend, I'm genuinely curious how safe to eat 70 year old rations are. If you're stockpiling for the end of the world, then why do you even give a shit about the taste? It's eat or die at the point.
>>
>>30529065
US MREs are sold on Amazon and Ebay by thieves.

That or the manufacturers had surplus.

One of those, but yeah MREs are civilian available.
>>
>>30529152
not him but freeze dried meals are way better than MREs, last longer and are less of a hassle to clean up after. Main problem is that they're rather expensive
>>
>>30529166
If it tastes like shit, the caloric and nutritional value is also probably nil.

And if bacteria have managed to make a home, there's the possibility of food poisoning, which could easily kill you in an emergency.
>>
>>30528941
France. And it's not even close.
>>
I vote France or Spain. That shit looks downright delish, baby!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPv-_2q3NaY
>>
>>30529181
>If it tastes like shit, the caloric and nutritional value is also probably nil
Half of all current MREs taste like shit, do they not have nutritional value?
> if bacteria have managed to make a home, there's the possibility of food poisoning, which could easily kill you in an emergency.
Thus I only care what he think of the taste when the rations are old as shit.
>>
NOT AUSTRALIA
>>
What's the best civvie MRE for innawoods and where can I buy?
>>
I've been in the army for 10 years and MREs are garbage. You want 5000 calories that lasts for years without refrigeration, buy a little jar of peanut butter for $1.29

An MRE has like 1400 calories, 250 of which is the 8 oz 'main meal' which is about the same quality as something you'd find in a dinty moore can, the rest is junk food, crackers, peanutbutter and shit you can buy from the fuckin store like a normal ass person.

MREs are shitty and only make sense when talking about the military's logistics needs.
>>

>>

Let me rephrase this.

If it tastes dramatically worse than it did originally, most of the caloric value and vitamins have been destroyed by either enzymes or bacteria.

>>
>>30529533
I remember in Iraq they had these Halal military rations made by some us company. It was commercial packaging and they were fucking delicious and wholesome and would pilfer them off the Iraqi Army's unguarded pallet every chance I got.

It was all hummus, lamb and rice and lentils and snack pretzels and sunflower seeds and shit but it was 10 times better quality than the usual MREs.

9 out of 10 soldiers is eating sunflower seeds at any given moment but they have never put sunflower seeds in the MREs. Makes no fuckin sense whatso ever.
>>
France probably, seriously check out their menu, Italians can still get small cordial liqours in theirs I think and lots of pasta dishes, Spain also looks pretty good.

For long term, freeze dried is really the only way to go.

For short term innawoods, camping, hiking, etc you can get away with hormel bowls and spam singlets and shit.

It makes more sense to make your own so you get actually want you want, are generally fresher than the 2-5 year old military mres you can buy, and sweet baby jesus being able to buy proper powdered gatorade or lemonade versus that shit they give you in mres makes the difference

Heating up food with a make-shift "stove" and fuel tablets is old school. It's truly awful when you're short on time or wanna make a meal in dark. Other than that, food looked decent.
>>
>>30529850
Not the other anon but it's honestly only got a tiny bit of Kim chi. I think the US ones beat theirs (and the japs) just on the number of options alone. While the Korean and Jap MRE's I've had where gold they don't have that many different kinds so it'll get old real quick if you have to eat them day in and out.
>>
>>30528941
Norway... by far

http://drytech.no/?lang=en

Not this exactly ones but the military versin (which they dont sell). Beside the fact that the meal has the consistance of mashed potatoes are this things phenomenal. They taste better than whatever you get in the cantina, have the right amount of calories, proteines, sugar and vitamines for a long day inna woods, thei are light and compact as fuck and dont have too much packing material

Only tried the Norwegian one and the American. Norwegian has a lot more calories, much more compact, but doesn't have a heating pack system like the MRE's. Also the flavors are really boring. But I like it, compact meals with lots of nutrition is all you need.

US ones are pretty good. The drink mixes are actually not shit and if you have ice water, the shake powders are pretty tasty. They get dull, quick, out in the field, though.

French and German ones are good, the German ones use a lot of smoked meat and sausages, which are really, really tasty.

Spanish ones are poverty-level and should be avoided at all costs, they are basically assorted cans of tuna and gruel.

probably just a slow mover on the anti-america fad.

Also for his case about pop tarts. MRE specific knockoffs were made because actual pop-tarts don't hold too well in constant high heat (hurr durr longer than the few minutes in a microwave or toaster) and their packaging degrades quickly. The ingredients they are made of begin to separate when under constant heat so the knock offs are made with other ingredients so that doesn't happen. Same thing M&M's becoming "Candy coated chocolate bites". The chocolate inside would melt in high temperatures and the fats would separate from the sugars giving them that white shellac we were used to seeing.

fun fact the guys who develop MRE's once tried to make a dehydrated watermelon snack
