What is the absolute best 1911 I can buy? Money is irrelevant.

Also, if I'm going to get one, should I stay true to history and go with 45acp with no rail, or should I get modern and consider 9mm with a rail?

It's probably not the absolute best that money can buy, but I'm nearing 2,000 rounds through this Springfield RO Champion and its only FTE happened when my mom eased the slide forward when loading a round. Not a single problem otherwise.

So I'd say a Springfield is good. You can spend more though.

Springfield seems good, but I'm considering ultra premium $3000 1911's

also if you want a more modern higher end 1911, Korth makes a roller delay modernized 1911 pistol, called the PRS.

Look into the Cabot Gun Company.
They recently made a pair of 1911s out of a meteorite.
They are to be the very best out of anyone.

custom manufacturer like Atlas Gunworks or any number of smaller USPSA shops. if you like a semi-custom shop like Les Baer or SVI, be prepared to wait.

How can I make my 1911 like the one in snake eater?
>>
the absolute best 1911s in terms of fit and function are probably going to be the truly custom guns made by a single, extremely skilled 1911 smith, like Harrison. they will also make you exactly what you want, if you know what you want. http://www.harrisoncustom.com/

there are other very high end brands like Ed Brown, Les Bear ect. but leave it to /k/ to post Springfields in a $3k+, top-tier 1911 thread, lol.
however if they said that you don't really need to spend obscene amounts of cash on a 1911 to get a good one or to get the real 1911 experience, i would agree with them. your basic Springfield, Colt, Dan Wesson ect. are just fine.

you have to buy a suitable base gun and have it customized.

There's very little room at the top. Heine. Turnbull. The guy from 1* who's name escapes me. Yost. Briley. 10-8 Performance. They are top tier builders. People wait years for guns from them. They build one at a time and have waiting lists. Under them are the semi production makers. They have multiple smiths assembling guns by hand using in house machined parts. These are the best guns you can buy now, no waiting. Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Les Baer, Bob Serva at Fusion Firearms, Nighthawk Custom. Briley 10-8 Performance. Then you have the custom shops of the larger manufacturers like S&W Performance Center and Colt Custom Shop.

There is no wrong answer. It just depends on how long you want to wait and how much you want to spend.

For my $3k, it would be a USMC Colt.

>>30528200

yeah. the Concept series at just under $2k these days is crazy value.

Bob Marvell. and competition 1911 builders too if you don't mind some more racegun-looking pistols.

>While all of the FBI's requirements were demanding, the most rigorous was accuracy. Chosen at random, two of the five guns had to shoot no more than 1.5" at 25 yards for three 10-shot groups from a Ransom Rest. Then the guns would be shot for 20,000 rounds in an endurance test, after which a second accuracy test would be conducted with no more than 15 percent degradation in accuracy being acceptable.
for me it would the the Professional model from the Springfield Custom Shop

If money is not an object, why not get two?

So you can get best of both worlds. Get the most expensive Colt Government Model 1911 in .45 ACP so you can have the historically accurate one.

And then buy another one, probably a modern with rail and choose whichever caliber you like most.

I dream of owning a custom or semi custom 1911. I love color case hardened look. I have see a couple Wilson Combat pistols that were beautiful (it has several gunsmiths though). I have also looked at Volkmann guns: http://www.volkmannprecision.com/main/gallery.html#4 They look beautiful. I would get a .45, but that is just me. I would consider a 9mm or 10mm for a 1911 depending on the style of gun. A barbecue gun would have to be a .45 for me.
>>
>>30527196
Just get a nice Colt.

If you want custom go Ed Brown or Wilson Combat custom.

if you find the right place on your body with the right holster you can do it without a coat. i can conceal a 5" 1911 fine with pic related with just a loose fitting shirt and looser fitting pants, but it does likes to jab me. if i had a commander/officer size gun with a rounder/smaller hammer & grip safety it would feel alot better. add bobtail frame/MSH and thin grip panels and it would probably not even be felt.

well lets look at it.
the frame and slide can't have any cuts on them that the MGS gun wouldn't have. you can make cuts -TO- them to match the gun, but you can't undo cuts that were done in an undesirable way..

first thing is the frame tangs near the grip safety.
no modern style, up-swept style safety 1911 will do, those tangs are shaped to interlock into those safeties. it needs the traditional, longer tangs like a Colt Series 70.

next are the slide serrations.
the Big Boss gun has the original style, vertical serrations at the rear of the slide and similar serrations near the front of the slide. but there are also weird little bevel cuts horizontally at the top of them. you will need a good 1911 smith at least do that little bevel, but he would also be able to do the front serrations as well. but he won't be able to do it if the slide has modern style serrations cut into them or has the slanted rear serrations that Springfield likes to do. again, something like a Colt Series 70.

next up are the sights.
the Big Boss gun doesn't have a dovetailed front sight as far as i can tell, so a reproduction can't either. it needs to be set up for a staked front sight. i can't quite tell what rear sight cut the slide has. it looks shallow so not Novak or other modern cuts. it might even be more shallow than the standard USGI cut, so if so i don't know what cut it would be. my guess is that it is a USGI cut with just a rear sight that hides it. a Colt Series 70 or similar would again be a match.

next point would be the radius cuts on the slide near the dust cover of the frame. a good custom 1911 smith will probably be able to achieve this higher, almost square shaped bevel cut from a standard slide.

next one is the slide and frame rollmarks. mainly the left side markings.
if you want your repro to be exact, you're going to need to start with a blank slide and have a custom smith engrave it himself to match the game gun. also if your base frame has an annoying rollmark that could be an issue.

next point would be the front grip.
start with a smooth front grip and your smith can texture it to match. some frames that are out there are already textured. some might match well enough and others won't.

next is the little bevel on the frame behind the trigger.
a minor point, but it is worth mentioning that they are cut slightly smaller than you will find on most 1911 frames these days. even a Colt Series 70. a smith could cut those smaller cuts from a pre-A1 style frame if you want it to match perfectly.

all this is before the task of dealing with getting matching parts onto this gun. (trigger, sights, controls, grip panels, hammer, grip safety, threaded barrel, ect.)

>TLDR
it's clear that the game developers were going for an early, pre-A1 1911 that was then heavily modified.

if you care about the rollmark being accurate and don't want to spend a ton on and then mutilate an original gun, your best bet would be getting a carbon steel Caspian frame and slide that are of the older, pre-A1 style and uncut. then having a custom 1911 smith do all the cuts to match, fitting all the parts into it and then finally bluing it.
still expensive as hell.

if you don't care about the rollmark matching, getting a blued Colt Series 70 or similar gun, finding/making matching parts and then having said custom 1911 smith fit all the new parts, make the frame/slide cuts if needed and then re-bluing it would be your ticket. a little cheaper than the Caspian frame/slide route but still expensive.

kapeesh?

>>30531045

how do you sit god dammit.
>>
>>30531528
my 1911 doesn't have quite as pokey of a hammer as that in the pic. still not super comfy, but i wedge some of my shirt between me and the hammer when i'll be sitting for long. it helps.

i will be switching to a smaller, more rounded off 1911 soon though.
