Bought a Taurus G2 as my first handgun and, for the price, it's a great gun. Put several hundred rounds through it so far with no issues. Very comfortable.
You might get a great, reliable pistol at a good price. If you don't want to roll those dice get something used from a good company at the same price.

I dont think there was ever a G1, the previous model was the Millenium Pro and before that it was just the Millenium.
The last generation Millenium Pro was my first gun and it's actually been pretty good. Sloppy trigger but the only thing it's had a problem with was cheap russian steel cased ammo. But I've heard enough stories about their incosistent QC I shy away from buying another Taurus. Also not quite as poorfag anymore

I bought a PT-140 Millennium Pro as my first hand gun and it has been amazing. It has never failed me and has shot everything I put through it. It has at least 3000 rounds through it now since I bought it in 09. I had tons of problems with my Sig 229 if that makes you feel better. I'd go with a PT-111 honestly. It's the best bang for your buck right now. Or you can get a police trade in Glock.

I literally just bought this yesterday as my first gun. It was great for the price. For $220 it came with a box of ammo and an extra clip at my local gun store.
