But on a side note, while the Riger Mini 14 has an all stainless steel option, why dosen't Springfield offer a full stainless M1A not just the barrel?
>>
>>30521606
>>
>>30521822
No demand for it
M1a buyers want steel and wood rifles.
I don't think there is any stainless BRs, maybe an AR10 receiver set, maybe

>>30521131

>>
>>30520448

>>
>>30522126
What are you even on about?

The picture shows two guns chambered in 308 (or at least close enough) and you're sperg fergusing over the fact that SCAR16s exist -- yeah, they exist, but they're not in the picture and they have no relevance to the discussion.

So knock it off, retard.
>>

and the picture *says* it's using .308 rounds
because it's being compared to the M1A.

The existence of the SCAR16 has no relevance to the picture. Dumbass.

Akchuawly, it's a SCAR-H (Mk17 Mod0) with a poorly photoshopped birdcage flash hider.

The SCAR-H, SCAR 17, and SCAR 17S are all different rifles according to FN - each with their own separate serial range.

All of them however are SCAR's. So the OP image is not incorrect.
>>
>>30522365
>It's a SCAR-H, not a SCAR-17
and you deduce this from the right side of the gun... how?
>>

SCAR-17S.jpg
49 KB, 941x245
>>30522434

Because it's standard FN marketing material. The most common and likely used of which is the SCAR-H with the AAC 18T MITER flash hider.

It initially appeared to be photoshopped to appear ban compliant (compensator instead of evil flash hider) however upon further examination I've discovered the original source material dating back to the announcement of the limited edition SCAR-17S package.

So this is in fact a SCAR-17S (albeit still photoshopped) yet my point about the separate nomenclature and serial sets for each remains standing.

>and have no historical importance
>Durr durr tools
I understand, entirely. The rifle is a tool. You're not wrong, but I find your callous dismissal of the significance imbued in some tools to be completely fucking close-minded.

We as a society like to have relics, whether they're old machines such as an old Model-T, or a fucking forged silver cross in a church. We'd be better off if we had relics with actual context to remind us of the past. People like you would see all that shit thrown away and turned into modern tech. Then how the fuck do we know how far we came?

My uncle is a metalworker and a motorhead. Always has been. The dude can weld like no one's business, and he's the go-to for many people for anything dealing with fabrication. His great-great-grandfather was a fucking blacksmith, who had to make his own tools to work.

My uncle's got several of those tools. Do you know where they are? They're on display in the house, with a little information card explaining what each was used for.

>Hurr durr, why you have that Mosin? Just get a .308 AR and get with the times.
>>
>>30528245
Considering an nvidia 1080 isn't consistent at hitting 60hz at 4k, yeah I'll manage with 60, until 144hz 4k displays come out, which would almost saturate DP bandwidth

Not really the right thread... BRG is for automatic and semi automatic weapons firing full size rifle cartridges, not for bolt guns.

You should check the milsurp general thread if there's one up, they will probably recommend a Yugo M48 Mauser if this is going to be your first milsurp gun other than a Mosin. A k-31 is another good recommendation, and type-99's are also actually very good rifles (I know several people who think they're the best bolt rifle of WW2) but ammo for them can be expensive.

Hence the and/or. The really expensive PTRs like the FR or whatever it's called have both, and those are like the same price as a proper SA58 (i.e. not a Voyager).

The G3 has funny recoil imo, but it's not worse than other BRs (SCAR 17 aside). It's just more of an awkward shove instead of a kick.
>>
>>30539226
>but it's not worse than other BRs
Yeah, it kicks much more softly than my m1a, it's gotta be related to the billion pound return spring and how fast the action operates.
>>
Why are there so many "battle rifles" these days being made with 1in10 twist rates? I just want a PTR and DS58 with good old 1in12 twist rates so I can use military bulk ammo. Fucking hell. I don't want a DMR, I want a hard nosed, bayonet equipped lead sprayer. If I want to stablize 175gr bullets, I'd get a bolt gun.

Also, I am hoping to one day get my hands on M993ap. These bullets are 125gr, so I REALLY want a legal BR in that can stabilize the vast majority of military ammo.

Sorry for sperging there.
>>
>>30539704
I should clarify that both PTR and DSA are making their rifles with the ridiculous 1in10 twist rates these days. The M1A at least is 1in11. Also, I would like to purchase a BR for under 1k which is why the PTR being in 1in10 twist rates, is very annoying.

All the good military ap/barrier blind ammo is light. Hence why ALL military 7.62NATO MG's and BR's are all in 1in12 twist. Even sniper rifles still maintain a minimum 1in11.25 twist.

Are the older ones still semi auto? Or more frequently bolt action? Which are cheaper? Easier to maintain? Or are these questions to vague? Sorry for question dumping, your guys' sticky doesn't have any info links or anything

All battle rifles are semi auto, this is a battle rifle thread. Obviously something like a SCAR which was designed very recently with modern materials is easier to break down, clean, and lube than an M1A which traces it's design back to the 1930's. Battle rifles are expensive guns, a SCAR17 will set you back a few thousand, an M1A about $1500

How old are we talking?
Infantry had commonly issued semi-auto rifles since WW2, with rifles like the Garand and SVT. Modern furniture usually means lighter weight to carry (solid wood is heavy) and, sometimes as you mentioned, the ability to "accessorize".
Bolt actions have been common up to and including WW2 though.
