SO do missile pylons defeat the purpose of a stealth jet?
>>
>>30519948
Yes, that's why they're deployed when stealth is no longer paramount, i.e. destruction of enemy air defences.
>>
>>30519958
desu senpai f22 pylons can only hold AMRAAMs

what's the point in extra air to air bvr power if you're making yourself significantly easier to target?
>>
>>30519948
Stealth is only critical in "Day 1" operations.
>>
>>30519965
Shooting down helicopters, attack aircraft, and cargo aircraft?
>>
>>30519965
ohh a BVR thing.
seems like a f35 would do better with the superior sensors ex.
>>
>>30519990
The F22 got upgrades to its' radar using the technologies developed for the F35. In BVR, they are basically equals, with a couple differences.

>>30519988
All things the enemy won't be flying anyway if you rule the skies
>>
>>30520003
The hardpoints closer to the centerline can be used for external fuel.
>>
>>30519948
Adding a pylon increases the RCS by 2m^2, so yes, that kinda defeats the purpose of being invisible
>>
>>30520418
And on a plane like an F22 where the RCS is a few cm^2 thats kind of like throwing a huge I AM HERE sign on yourself.

Now that isn't to say you couldn't maybe develop a missile and pylon unit that was stealth, but that would be really fucking hard.

No it wouldn't.
>>
>>30519948

No, those only allow greater payloads in permissive airspaces.

>desu senpai f22 pylons can only hold AMRAAMs

Thats false, they hold drop tanks too, and aim-9's.

Stealthy pylons are able to made, and have been made for the F-35.

This increases the RCS of the bird by whatever a ordinance you put on it.

AMRAAM's have a very small rcs, so it would not effect it all that much.

The designers didn't construct additional pylons.

No

A stealth jet would be operating without pylons in a dangerous situation, like going Wild Weasel. Once hostile airspace has been effectively neutralized, why not have more boom to help the boys on the ground? Or if they didn't have SAMs or fighters at all.

Even so the RCS of stealth planes is so small that it would probably still be stealthier than conventional aircraft.

Somebody had to say it.
>>
>>30521725
Plus, since we can actually build B-2/F-117 grade stealth into a high-performance, conventional fighter now, why not just have it capable of both the high-risk missions of traditional stealth and the full-spectrum capabilities of a multi-role?
>>
>>30519948
what about those external weapon bays on the F/A-18 Advanced Super Hornet? can those be modified to better serve stealth aircraft?
>>
>>30519948
Well then what about this, if the f-22 is so stealthy, why don't we make the missiles and pylons shaped like tiny f-22's?

You're trolling, right senpai?
>>
>>30522535
Those things have to be specially designed for the aircraft they're placed on; design it to be stealthy on one aircraft and you might accidentally have a design that's unstealthy on another aircraft (by creating 90 degree corners or other reflections off the jet fuselage).
