20mm is well enough to fuck up a modern fighter. Most US planes has a 20 mm cannon.
The zeros would however probably not hit the F-35 anyway.

The F-35 can basically kill Zeroes with impunity until it runs outta ammo and flies home to rearm. The question is wether the Zeroes can reach the airfield, do so in time, get through any defenses present and catch it on the ground.
Up in the air, there's simply no way for the Zekes to catch a jet that goes for energy fighting tactics. (And no even halfway trained jet pilot is going to be retarded enough to go for a turning fight vs a prop.)

No amount of zeros are capable of shooting down an F35. They do not fly fast enough to catch the F35 or have the ability to find it to begin with.
An F35 only has so much ammunition, and would be forced to leave after expending it.
