I'm interested in getting a 1911 just to say I have one, even though I'm really turned off by the low 7-8rd capacity.

I'd rather use an FNX and have 17 rounds of .45...

Anyways, I'm really overwhelmed by the options, can anyone help me out? I don't mind spending up to 1500, but if I can get an acceptable one under 1000, then I will.

Help me.

Rock Island Armory, basic, cheap, durable, functional, a basic GI model can be had for as little as $350 and is a good value purchase.

If you want to splurge, there's always Dan Wesson.
Since you'd rather a hicap for .45, consider getting a pistol in a caliber you don't have, just for the sake of it feeling different, like .38 Super, .40S&W, 10mm, or .45 Super

Avoid Kimber brand guns, they're dogshit.

The FNX is cool and all but outside of capacity, I think the 1911 is a better gun.

Thank you for your input.

This. RIA, Springfield, Colt, Ruger, Sig, etc... will all be pretty damn reliable and accurate.
>>
>>30514681
I was just using FNX as an example of a high capacity .45... I don't even really like my FNX that much. It's surprisingly accurate, but feels weird to shoot in my opinion.
>>
>>30514468
8+1 is fine and you can always even get some 10 round magazines if you are okay with them not being flush
>>
>>30514731
Most other .45's are going to be in the 10-13 capacity range. The P220 is even 8 rounds. You can get 10 round magazines for the 1911, but they're going to hang down a bit if you don't mind that. So if it's between 8 and 10 rounds in another gun, are two rounds a deal breaker?

Also, your gaining a very slim gun, very slim grips, amazing trigger and great shooter.

The only problem with getting a 1911 is that you'll want another. It can become an addiction.

Uh, what? Can you translate that into English please?
>>
>>30514940
There is nothing wrong with it. The reserve is not met yet though.
>>

Is there anything wrong with the sr1911?
>>
>>30514966
Not that I can think of. Personally I'd rather buy a Springy, but that's just me.

I get to post this twice today!
>>
>>30514966
Whoops didn't mean to reply to anyone with this.
>>
Why do I feel dirty when I post that the 1911 is my favorite handgun?

Also, what are good ambidextrous parts for a 1911? I'm building one at the moment and since I'm a lefty, I decided to make it as lefty accessible as possible.
>>
1911 is a cool gun with history, get it based on that alone.
if round count, price, and practicality are a factor, get a glock 21
>>
If I want a simple, old school reliable 1911 that I can count on to survive without heavy maintenance (light cleaning after shooting, but if possible could handle the elements too) would a RIA do the trick or should I splurge for something more high end?
>>
>>30516101
RIAs are hit and miss. The one I received is a tank, but there are a few things I'd change on it.

^^^ cheap GI style RIA
>>
>>30516111
What model? I'd heard that GI's are iffy but tactical's are the best one they made.
>>
>>30514966

Does that gun have the legal writing all over it?
>>
>>30516132
I believe it was a tactical. I know it was old, so it had Armscor on the slide rather than the RIA billboard. It had an extended beavertail safety. I gave it to my brother so I don't have pics of it.

If you want a 1911 and capacity, get a Para P14.
>>
>>30516150
No worries, last question: I don't suppose you know how their customer service is? I figure if they're hit and miss/yours was built like a tank then for the money it would be worth it to gamble since even if I lost then I could send it in and get it done the right way. I'm in no hurry.
>>
>>30516172
Can't personally say from experience, but I've heard on /k/ it's bretty gud.
>>
>>30516187
Thanks just the same.
>>
>>30514656
I've always eyeballed the RIA but it feels like it would be blasphemous not to buy an all American 1911
>>
>>30516226
Anytime.
>>
>>30516229
I fucked a Filipino woman. I wouldn't recommend it since they're bat shit crazy.

That said, I heard they use the old Colt machines to make them, so in a way it's still American?
>>
>>30514656
Kimber mags are good, but their guns are, agreed, dogshit.

Another lefty here. I just bought an RIA with the ambi safety. I can operate everything else with my index and/or middle finger.
>>
>>30516896
I think I'll just buy the ambi safety and spend the rest on mags and ammo.

I do want to replace the sights with Novak or something similar. I have adjustable sights on it and I don't plan on it being a safequeen.
>>
Dont buy a Rock Island, there was a thread earlier and they broke one down and the quality on the parts is disgusting.
>>30510728
>>
>>30517085

If you actually read the thread you would see it quickly became readily apparent that the gun was in no way a RIA 1911.

Literally just read the thread. Like, it's right there for you.
>>
Anyone here own a Colt Double Eagle? I know they aren't very popular but they seem like the best of both worlds honestly.
>>
>>30514468

double stack 1911s exist dude
