Looking to move away from my AR and towards a pistol caliber carbine. /k/ has never failed me even when they totally have. Lead me to the promised land of funs.
>>
Revolver-caliber lever actions are the most fun pistol caliber carbines.
>>
If you happen to have a glock, 1911, or xd, look into mechtech uppers that fit onto the frame. Will save you a good bit of money as opposed to just buying a carbine and you'll have practically the same thing. I have one and I love the thing.

http://www.mechtechsys.com/glock.php
>>
seriously, it had never crossed my mind. i was looking at sub 2000 and the CTG as the low end, and the cx4 and kriss as the high end. rather 9mm cause its cheaper and i'm more likely to go and shoot more if its cheaper.
>>
>>30513149
Damn, that's actually pretty cool. I'll consider it. I'm selling my AR to get funds for both a pistol and a carbine. That might give me both.
>>
>>30513185
If you do end up getting one, I highly recommend you spend the extra $60 or whatever it is and get the adjustable stock. I didn't and it's a pretty tight fit getting my eye to the sight.

My Cx4 is one of my favorite guns I own. It's incredibly fun and comfy, and 30 rounds of 9mm is bretty gud
>>
>>30513083
Beretta CX4
Ruger PC9 (discontinued though)
9mm AR-15
Hi-Point 995 (recently came out with 20rd mags)
B&T APC9 if you can afford it.
Uzi rifle (I find they're nice with the solid fixed stocks)
MP5 clone

Avoid Citadel Carbines, avoid Taurus that isn't the PT92 pistols

>>30513107
Also this, .357 levergat is cheap and good fun.

>>30513149
These are good as well.
>>
>>30513107
Mech Techs are definitely a good option. I have a .40cal Sub 2000 Gen 2 that uses Glock mags but if you want something that can be beat up on a little harder I'd look in to a Sig MPX or one of the many Glock Mag AR variants now available. You can have a running 9mm Glock Mag AR from PSA for about $700 and the reviews so far have been awesome. I'm picking up the PSA glock mag lower tomorrow from my FFL and am building a 9mm AR pistol.
>>
Save yourself some dosh, just get a 9mm upper for your AR
>>
Had a Cx4 for a bit. Decently comfy to shoot, trigger is crap, and the rear sight was so small it was difficult to see through (though that might've just been mine).
Shot a first gen Sub-2000, the trigger was similarly crap to the Beretta, but folds in half and uses Glock mags, and is about half the price at my local shop.
>>
If I had the money I would get the AKX-9 R

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL38fU6IQGQ
>>
>>30513719
MPX is unquestionably good but it's also very expensive.

>>30513720
Not as sexy as making a brand new 9mm AR from the ground up.

>>30513789
Same as the Sig, fucking nice but fucking costly.

You get what you pay for though
>>
>>30513724
Ooh, forgot about the SIG MPX, which was awesome, but expensive.
My dad has a Rossi m92 lever action 357. Not nearly as smooth or nice as a Winchester or Marlin, but is accurate and pretty fun.
>>
I just got done building an AR in 7.62x25. It takes PPSh mags. I also got well over a 1k rounds for it. It shoots well. Weighs little. Highly maneuverable. Great ballistics out of a 16in barrel. And is surprisingly quiet.
>>
>>30513083
Depends on what you want. I love my lever action because it's pure sex. An AR in 9mm is a great beginners rifle and about as cheaps as they get (though not as fun to shoot). MP5 clones are pure sex and are my favorite 9mm. CX4s are dead sexy but pricey.
>>
The scorpion evo carbines are out now and can be had for around $900. I love my pistol version (new one with 1/2x28 threads) and just recently sent in for a tax stamp to SBR it. Aftermarket is slowly coming around for it and mags are $20 and can be found relatively easily.
>>
>>30514159
$900!!! My LGS just sold one still NIB for 675. I almost got it but by the time my paycheck came through it was already sold. (and at that price, rightfully so). Although, i do have an all original jungle carbine Enfield on layaway. Total price...$200.

Forgot to add...i do really like the EVO. Can't wait til I get one. Hopefully they will have another come through at a good price, like the previous one was.
>>
>>30514253
if it was really only 675 i would have jumped on that even though I already have one. That is pretty much a steal.
>>
>>30514251
What is that? (2nd from right). Is that glock mag in it?
>>

Tell me tubs, have you added an MP5 yet? You seen those B&Ts, one of them is calling my name
>>
>>30514261
Yeah...i know. I was pissed I didn't have the money at the time. I would have atleast put it on layaway. My check came the next morning but my buddy told me it sold with 30min of being on the shelf. I got to fingerfuck it though.

>>30514279
I love the hk and will do so sometime. Low on the list due to still in production via clones. After a sw760 next. Just bought another ar and a revolver so need to wait a few weeks.
Still waiting on my damn stg44
>>
>>30514338
Cool af. So 9mm? How many rds does that mag hold? How much would something like that cost?

Although, I am still tweaking my tokarev AR atm. And I got a few other rifles I a getting soon. So I am just wondering for educational purposes.

Thanks Anon. That is a cool ass looking carbine.

The pistol version is the linda and they go for $550- $800 terry rifles go for $650-900. Magazines hold 30 but mine really prefers 27. Be advised mags cost $115 when you find them. I believe I can modify some sw 59 series mags to fit but haven't gotten drunk enough to cut on my shitty 59 series extended mags yet.

Funny you bring up tokarev. My sterling is currently set up in Tokarev but I have all the 9mm stuff too

I did the tok AR thing because I had an unopened can of 1200rds of steel core. 100 rds of Norinco yellow box. And several boxes of S&B ammo. So 1500+/- rds altogether. Also have a Russian Tokarev handgun my woman got me for my birthday some years ago.

Nice. How heavy is your buffer?
>>
>>30514828
Got the Carbine buffer so....what is that....3oz? 3.2oz. Something like that. Not heavy at all. There is negligible recoil. So I figured i didn't need anything heavier than the lightweight.

The whole rifle is lighter than a standard AR. I use it as my HD/Urban/Trunk rifle. It still has a few tweaks to be done but I am working on it everyday.
>>
>>30514941
Nice. I'll do a 9mm upper but haven't thought about an ar to for years. It would be hella fun. I always heard they needed tungsten buffers to cycle

It's about the same for the first one, but I'd say it's easier in Australia after that.
We don't need to go through the whole waiting period and tax every time we buy a new handgun.

a lot of states dont have waiting periods. some dont have sales tax.
you can argue against califags all you want though, i think ausfags have them beat now.

Hi-point 995ts. Don't let anyone tell you it's shit, it's just an ugly gun (like all hipoints). It's great, although I wish it had OEM hicap mags.

Don't forget the Marlin Camp Carbines. Discontinued, and overpriced on Gunbroker, but still reasonable on reputable LGS racks. There's a 9mm and a .45 version, with the .45 being the more overpriced. The 9mm takes S&W 59 magazines, and the .45 takes 1911 magazines. They had 2 chief design flaws; weak recoil springs, and nylon recoil buffers. The springs can be replaced by Wolff springs, and the recoil buffers are easily found on Midway and elsewhere. The nylon is broken down by gun cleaning chemicals, and falls apart over time. What would happen is the recoil buffer would break down, and when the bolt came back, the weak spring couldn't eat up the recoil, and the stock would crack. Cheesy poly stocks are a dime a dozen, but decent wood stocks are almost impossible to find. Replacement parts are still very common, except for a few major items; such as the trigger guard action assembly.

If you've got a glock, a 1911, or an XD, check out MechTech carbine conversion kits.

I keep looking for the 9mm versions. Seem to live around $600 or $750
>>
>>30514251
This shit is dumb. I mean if you got the money to blow then more power to ya. But for the kind of money youre talking about...not for me, ever. So many other things that are literally 4x more practical,, for far less money

Already had the PX4 in .40S&W so I bought a CX4 in the same. At times I wish I had bought one in 9mm with the 92 magwell just so I could have 30 round magazines. Sometimes 17 rounds just ruins the fun.

>>30513668
I like being able to share magazines with my PX4. All in all, it is one of my favorite guns to shoot. Doesn't have a point, just fun to shoot.

>>30513724
Rear sight is pretty small, but honestly I never use it. Trigger is not that good.

>>30514123
That they are. Caught mine on sale from Bud's Guns. Paid $700 for it.
>>
>>30518087
Why aren't these more common?
>>
>>30513083
I'm Canadian and PCCs are a mixed bag for us.

Pros:
- We have dozens of options for non-restricted PCCs, including a few unique to Canada.
- Many manufacturers like Beretta and Kriss make special runs of 18.5" barrels for us so they aren't restricted like the 16" barrelled USA versions would be.
- If you actually want a restricted PCC, your options are nearly unlimited as far as barrel length and design.
- Because they use magazines "designed for use in a handgun" those magazines are limited to 10 rounds instead of the usual 5 rounds for other semi-auto centerfire guns.

Cons:
- They all cost $2,000 to $3,000. The cheapest I've ever seen was $1,700 (before 13% sales tax) and the reviews on that model said it was jamtastic.
- "Handgun" 10 round AR-15 magazines are readily available for 5.56x45mm . There are even 20 round magazines "designed for bolt action rifles" that will fit 7.62x51mm battle rifles like the M14. This means PCCs don't actually have an advantage for round count.
- 9mm ammo is a bit cheaper than rifle ammo but not enough to make a difference unless you are buying crates.

I'd love a PCC but I can't justify it.
>>
>>30520577
They don't produce enough to meet demand so the street price is higher than the Msrp and makes a cool cheap gun pushed into nicer guns cost territory
>>
>>30520577

I hear yah. I like all kinds of guns though. I have 7 aks because each one is a different variant...Pistol caliber carbines are fun as hell. Yeah I understand you can have a 300 blackout pistol. I get it. But I can load up on cheap 9mm and take friends and family out and shoot all day with limited recoil that everyone can enjoy. Great for shooting at the range. Good for home protection, not great but good. Everything is about compromise.

I understand if they aren't for you, enjoy what you like. I have enough guns that I dig down into niche pieces. I don't need one gun to do everything. I find ones that do things different/better than others. Sometimes in only one way and worse than others in far more.

Just a preference thing.
>>
>>30520665
Are 9mm AR15's worth it?
Do they get significantly larger accuracy and range than a competition pistol?
>>
>>30520705
Colt sold a lot to law enforcement. Ease of use. Familiarity with ar platform. It's an all around close range gun.
>>
My next gun is going to be a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. A friend of mine has one and loves it.
>>
>>30520594

Expensive

Pros

AR15 ergonomics and aesthetics

9mm AR's are really not that expensive I had mine for sub $500 last November. PSA drove the market down and they make decent little 9mm pieces.

anyone here a beretta storm? a bit pricey for what i want to spend but it uses 92 mags, of which i have a lot already.

Got one that uses 92 mags. Reliable and accurate, but like the anons said above the trigger isn't that good. Has a suprising amount of recoil.

>>
>>30525578
35 yards or less? I can hit a steel plate with my at 100 yards.

>>
>>30525890

>>
>>30525933

>>
>>30525956

>>
>>30525933
It will never have a great trigger. It will never have a great extended mag...I know the new ones are out...yay 20... it will work and can be abused and function. It's a good tool and as long as you use it as the push mower it is you will be happy. Never expect it to be a riding lawnmower. But it will cut grass just fine
>>
>>30525972
As reliable as the pistols. You can have fun with it just don't expect it to be anything more than what it is.
