I find it a shame that the FG-42 style rifle never got a chance to develop any further post-war. Side-mags should make a comeback in my opinion, even if just for the sake of rule of cool.

Weren't side mags more likely to jam? I feel like feedin would be finnicky. I do like the ability to shoot from the prone with an extended mag, and downward ejection gives me an erection.
>>
Welp I forgot I even made this thread. I'll dump some side-mags.

Apparently that isn't much of an issue with 30 rnd 9mm or 20 rnd 8mm Mauser. With higher capacity mags you're probably meant to use a bipod anyway.

That's a GPMG, not a side-magged rifle/SAW hybrid.

I wanna build a side-loader AK with the piston system below the barrel instead of above it.

>extremely reliable Owen gun action
it was literally just an open bolt tube gun
the action was no more or less reliable than other open bolt tube guns of the time

>In 1942, the John Lysaght metalworks factory made three versions of the Owen gun in nine-millimeter Luger, .38–200 caliber and .45 ACP. The factory subjected each version to stress tests, along with a Thompson submachine gun and the Sten gun as benchmark weapons.

>The tests included immersing the guns in mud and water, then blowing sand at the weapons. The only gun that didn’t jam … was the Owen. The top-mount magazine even proved beneficial.

>Gravity helps feed bullets into the gun, and the ejection port at the bottom of the receiver means that water and gunk easily drains out of the chamber. In short, the Owen Machine Carbine—as it’s officially named—is perfect for jungle warfare.
