So I just got my new 1911 and I stripped it down to clean the parts because it's brand new but I am noticing some issues with the frame, and the finish on it. Does this look normal for a 1911?

Here is a pic of the slide. These locking lugs are all scrapped up and look cheesy.

Anyone here more experienced with 1911s able to chime in?

Look how flimsy the barrel bushing is. It's actually bent from me removing it with a wrench.
>>
Is there literally no one on /k/ with a 1911?
>>

What brand?
>>
Are you fucking stupid? Do you know how many companies make 1911s and youre asking about qc without mentioning the manufacturer.

Rock Island. It's not technically new, but they guy who sold it to me said he shot it like twice.

Here you go. There are still a few parts in the slide but this is about it.

The only things not included were a couple of springs, my grips, and a small pin from the rear sight.

Also on the safety and a few other parts, the inner surfaces are bare metal.
>>
>>30511058

Ok, so first of all,
I don't see a single part there that's from a RIA gun.

Your slide is definitely not an RIA slide, and your frame looks like a P14 frame that someone cut part of the slide rail off of.
The other parts seem like a mish mash of random aftermarket parts, and I don't even know what barrel that is.

Second of all, it's been the subject of a lot of obvious home gunsmithing, which explains a lot of the things you're seeing.

Third, it has obviously been fired quite a lot.

So basically OP, you've been scammed and somehow bought a frankengun thinking that it was an RIA.

This is criminal tier fraud right here.
>>
>>30511134
Fuck. I already checked armslist and I can't find his post now. I paid only $330 so its not that big of a loss but still. Is it still safe to shoot?
>>
>>30511058
are you sure thats a factory ria? it looks like a partskit special. is it actually marked ria anywhere?
>>
>>30511155
No he said that they only put the serial and model number on it. The slide says "series 80 mk iv" and on the one side of the frame it has a serial, and a pentagon with an 'F' in it.
>>
>>30511141

I'm looking closer at your barrel, and I'm not even sure it's a real 1911 barrel.
It has what looks like threading on the inside, and the barrel link area doesn't look like any 1911 barrel I've seen.

Are you sure it isn't an airsoft barrel?
>>
>>30511141
assuming the guy didnt bugger up the parts its worth more than 300 in parts. however considering he sold it so low he probably did fuck it up noticbly the frame. vice some tape and a long string are your freind
>>
>>30511080
Low end 1911s are what have given the design a bad rap. JMB designed it for then common manufacturing processes, which invoked lots of hand fitting. That's expensive now days, which is why modern designs take advantage to modern manufacturing tolerances and make guns with drop in parts.

The upside is it could be a fun project if OP didn't pay too much. Get the shop manuals and play with it. Replace parts and fit them himself. He'd have a pretty good understanding of how it works if he decides to get a nice model later.
>>
>>30511189
Ugh I shoot at a game land range so its going to be hard to test like that.

>>30511187
I dont think but I'll take a picture down the barrel hold on.
>>
>>30511134
This

it doesnt look like an RIA

>>30511141
Does the serial number say RIA? what the brand name?
>>
>>30511193

>JMB designed it for then common manufacturing processes, which invoked lots of hand fitting.
Common misconception.
1911s were designed to be 100% parts interchangeable with each other.
Armorers would disassemble a bunch, throw them in a bucket with some gun cleaner, and just pull parts out at random to reassemble them.

Fuck it idc if you dox me the serial # is "U09100150377" I don't see any markings that say "Rock Island" or "RIA" besides the manual he gave me with it.

Here is the barrel shot. It is threaded for some reason you are correct. But it doesn't look like airsoft bbs would work its like 3x the diameter. The rifling is really faint and shitty though.
>>
>>30511166
yeah he lied like a mofo. ria start their serial with riaxxxxxx. even the stripped frames are marked like that. how did an ria marked series 80 not raise huge alarm bells in your head? all ria are series 70 guns.
>>
>>30511240

Can you take a shot of the barrel from the side?
Maybe one showing the feed ramp too.
Because I have no idea what barrel that is.
>>
>>30511244
I didn't really do research I saw it listed really cheap so I drove out and bought it. I didn't have much time he said he had someone else coming by later to get it.
>>
>>30511249
Hold on I just put it in a bucket of PB blaster with the small parts.
>>
>anon gets scammed
This is a fun thread.
>>
>>30511214
Iirc they were fitted once at the factory, which should size them to fit any other 1911 after the initial fitting. So while a factory part wouldn't drop in, one off another 1911 would.

Either way I posted without looking at the picture. Clearly not a factory RIA. Live and learn OP. Get your money back or enjoy your new project gun. I'd beat money that thing has issues.
>>
>>30511253
>said he had someone else coming by to get it

Common scam tactic; inform whatever authorities you have to, cut your losses, and learn for the next time.

Rushing to buy a gun is always a bad idea. Did you not look at it and take it down before buying the thing?
>>
>>30511271

>Iirc they were fitted once at the factory, which should size them to fit any other 1911 after the initial fitting. So while a factory part wouldn't drop in, one off another 1911 would.

They were made to a common manufacturing standard with generous clearances to ensure interchangeability.
It's nothing unusual for the time. M1 Garands were done the same way.
>>
>>30511240

That looks like a .22 conversion barrel or something.
Though I can't nail it down specifically right now.

The fact that it's stamped .45 acp is very confusing.
It has no barrel link, and no way I can see to tilt to allow it to lock and unlock.
It looks similar in design to a .22 conversion barrel.

Can you take more pics? Maybe one from directly behind, or the other side?
>>
>>30511312
I'm looking through my parts and I don't have a metal loop like that thing.

>>
>>30511393
Post a picture of the mag. The frame and trigger both look like double stack parts.

As for the slide that looks like an air gun of some type. Definitely not a regular slide. Should be solid.

If you aren't trolling this is getting more and more hilarious.

HEY EVERYONE
I FOUND OP'S AIRSOFT GUN

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-0CWqTacDg

All the markings match, except the word "Colt" seems to have been scraped off the side.
The serial number, the pentagon with an F, the parts, everything.

I'm surprised airsoft guns look that close to the real thing these days.
Though I stand by the statement that the frame looks more like a P14 frame.
