I just watched a documentary about Army Sappers - 'The Trolls of the Battlefield'. It talkied about how they go into enemy territory and disrupts shit before war is even waged. Create land slides on lonely roads to block passage to a military warehouse. Blow up bridges and such. It got me thinking about Isis. Tthey supposedly have cells here looking to make bombs and stuff and coordinate attacks. But if they were like sappers they would just fucking hide in the woods and cut down telephone poles at night in the winter. You'd hurt more people then a car bomb, and make them lose faith in the gov't because if Katrina is any indication it would take months for them to restore power. This just proves to me that Isis isn't really trying to defeat anyone or achieve a goal. They just want to make noise and get attention.

>more people then a car bomb
>then
I fucking swear to God, we need higher education in the United States.

Also, Sappers are wannabe Infantry.
>>
>>30491751
Sappers do a much more intense job than infantry, seriously. Infantry aren't call of duty and sappers fall more in line with the original goal of the seals I'd also be willing to say an individual Sapper plays a more vital part in the war effort compared to an individual infantryman. Throughout history you see infantry being essentially just bodies that can take orders excersise discipline and shoot guns, from Rome to the British empire to today. Sappers can do the job of infantry, infantry can't do the job of sappers without training.

OMGERDS A LOCKED DOOR CALL A SAPPER
>all inf back up and simply put a 203 into it
NEVER MIND WE GOT THIS

You know how i know the sappers are hard core.

They train at fort lost in the woods.
Fuck that place.
Fuck it it death

>>
>>30491853
Infantry aren't about to make a road impossible to traverse, infantry aren't I got to cut off possible routes so the enemy has to come from a certain way, infantry are t about to clear a road that's been made impossible to traverse by trees felled into an interlacing pattern.
>>
>>30491858

Yeah, fuck that place.
>>
>>30491806
>Sappers do a much more intense job than infantry

You know this because you have real world experience, yes?

I did eight years as an 11B, boyo. Sappers are useful but not equivalent to Infantry. Especially as your cartoon image portrays - Airborne.
>>
>>30491703
The problem is you want to claim responsibility for these actions. You want to get famous and be big bad mister terrorist organization, so you can get followers so people will join your org instead of "GOATFUCKERS OF THE UAE".

So in the grand scheme of things yes blowing up a transformer station might fuck over a lot of America, but it isn't some glorious, devastating, high profile attack.
>>
>>30491884
Thought you were promoting Sappers, not FASCAM.

Also I must apologize for my grammar in the OP. I have this huge ass list of threads I follow that was blocking the screen while I typed. I tried not to make any errors but my keyboard is small.
>>
>>30491881
Yeah. Imagine a place were is is 100° and 95% humidity in the summer, with mosquitoes that carry off children. And in the winter you dont get snow.... You just get ice... One year i was there we got 7" of ice in a day.

On top of that... Your picture is about as flat as it gets out side of the parade grounds and ranges.

Top it off with a shit town. And NO WHERE TO GO.

The one bar/club/strip joint was off limits.
>>
>>30491902
Not the OP but seriously it takes more work to set up the plumbing and install the toilet than it takes to shit in it. It's a moot point to compare infantry to sappers anyways because they do different jobs, I'm not about to ask an specialized individual trained in one thing to go kick in doors when he's needed elsewhere, and I'm not about to ask the guy who's been trained to pull triggers for a career to block off possible routes the enemy can use to attack.
>>
>>30491941

>One year i was there we got 7" of ice in a day.

When I was there that happened 3 times.

Every single Sapper I've met has always been a chill as fuck, solid dude.
>>
>>30491907
You really don't understand how you'd block a road with trees do you? You use a decent distance and fell the trees so they fall in the road interlacing between eachother and essentially adding their weight to the trees in front of them making it near impossible to move any large number of men over them or vehicles.
>>
>>30491968

>>
>>30491858
Fuuuuuuck that shithole. Even worse than bragg.
>>
>>30491902
Also I understand why you feel this way but a militray operation is like a football game, you need individuals and units who can block and screen for individuals like quarterbacks (infantry) so that you can have a successful operation.
>>
>>30491881

Oh no you delayed a group for about 30min to an hour. That is also depended on if they can't simply go the fuck around the abatis.
>>
>>30491902
As a sapper I'm always amazed at the sheer retardation of the average infantryman. And your ncos actively look for ways to make the situation shittier for the grunts.
>>
>>30492059
>the sheer retardation of the average infantryman

Now, I haven't served, but I have played a ton of Call of Duty and I can tell you, for a FACT that LITERALLY, the only difference between infantry and SpecOps is optempo.
>>
Oh boy, it's this thread again.

12B 8-year veteran, 2 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We're basically infantry with explosives!" Saying that is a good way to get the taste smacked out of your mouth. Only dumb FNG moto faggots say that shit. Sure we fight, sure we have explosives. But Engineers do enough cool guy stuff that we don't need to compare ourselves to any one else.

Engineer tasks are large in breadth and scope, and some are cool as shit, some are boring as balls. Comparing Sappers to infantry makes you look like Cav Scout fags, so knock it the fuck off. I have never had a cross word with an infantryman in my entire career, and they all seemed to respect what we did. The feeling was mutual.

So educate yourself, and quit marginalizing the broadness of the cool shit Engineers get to do. Saying "grunts with bombs lol!!1!1?one" is a disservice to both jobs, so quit disrespecting my Corps, the infantry, and the Army in general.

Except MP's. Fuck MP's.
>>
>>30491751
t civilian

Infantrymen go to Sapper school all the time
>>
>>30492099
You are correct. I served in the 75th ranger regiment. I went to ranger school. I did all the cool guy shit but the hardest part of my life was AO black in infantry OSUT.
>>

Why did they change the designation for combat engineers from 12B to 21B anyways?
>>
>>30494284

Dyslexia. Also they've made that switch at least twice.
>>
>>30492054
You're forgetting about the mines in front of, in, and beyond the felled trees. Don't forget the location is under observation, and sited for artillery.

Combined arms ftw. Sappers by themselves aren't that powerful, but much like snipers, are force multipilers.
>>
>>30494284
They changed it back, it had something to do with other Engineers being salty that we had a combat designator or something. I'm not entirely sure though
>>

It's the Army. Some General starts feeling a little useless and decides to make some change to nomenclature or paperwork. He then writes a few hundred pages of why his changes will benefit everyone.

Sappers when used correctly can drastically increase the combat effectiveness and survivability of the infantry they are supporting, more than an equal amount of extra infantry would.
