My dad has one in .35 Remington. It's honestly better than .30-30 or .45-70 for most applications in my opinion but has damn near died out.
He took off his scope and put a rear peep sight on it, though.

I'm getting and going to have to refurb my Grandpa's .35 336 soonish. He put a neat flip-away scope mount on it so the irons could be used unobstructed.

If just for coyote and no revolver then 30-30 is a great option if you want to do lever action. 357 would work but honestly I would get that more for the common ammo. Either way set up something easy to maintain and reload for years of fun. Also look into ammo/brass availability as it can vary strangely by area (45-70 for my area)
I need help. I've got a Marlin 336 chambered in 30-30 WIN that was made in the year 1981 and has the serial number 19142440. Since it doesn't say what variant of the 336 it is, can someone help me find out which models of the 336 were manufactured in 1981?
Would really like a lever action rifle, any suggestions? Money isnt really an issue.

The .35 Remington is a great round. I wish Henry chambered a gun in it.
Very superior ballistically to the .30-30 (larger caliber, but ~200 f/s faster for the same weight). If you reload, you can use .357 magnum bullets for varmints or plinking.

From what I can tell anon, the only models of the 336 that were made in 1981 was the 336C (Carbine) and the 336T (Texan).

The only difference between them is that the 336C has a 20 inch barrel while the 336T has a 18.5 inch barrel.

Anyone know if the new Marlins are any good? i desperately want a 336, but i know they went to shit during the changeover. are they fixed yet?
also winchester 94 or marlin 336? which is better and why? i think the winchester looks boring as fuck compared to the sexy/curvy 336, but the 94 seems to be a lot more popular
