>No Tripfags allowed Edition
For fuck's sake, if this board is going to be full of generals then you may as well do it right and make a neutral OP.
>>30490966
Just for you, Mr. Faggot.
hi /ktg/ recently i've been getting into doing outdoors stuff on the weekends and the knife I have is shit at making feathersticks / batoning wood and so on
I was thinking about picking up a morakniv heavy duty, just wondering if there were any better alternatives for a similar price.
>>30491029
No doubt it's the fake sharps from last thread.
Posting pic so no one fakes on me :>)
>>30491341
I like your style.
>>30491782
Bang for your buck? not even close. Mora beats them all hands down.
>>30492065
alright then, I had heard nothing but good things from friends but I thought I'd just come here for another opinion
thanks anon
My uncle gave me this when I got my Eagle Scout. He carried it with him while he was in the Peace Corps in Africa doing humanitarian work.
Is the koi fish specific to the Peace Corps, or is it a generic thing? Generic or not, it means a lot to me.
>>30492130
I'll never get why pictures from my phone get flipped 90 degrees when I try to post them.
>>30492130
It's a Victorinox Angler. Great little swiss army knife, but very popular model.
I want to get started making knives and I've started on building a forge and next I'll start work on mounting an anvil, anyone got any tips or suggestions?

>>30496477
Looks like it, seems like I can see the tang under the handle at the back.
>>30491877
Nope, wasn't me! and it's just sharps by the way :^)
opinel sea mountain, bottom is a whistle.. I dig it. Got one in blue.
Also a classic Opinel #8 with the blue ink pen graphics anniversary editions. A beast against cheese and apples.
This was a gift from a friend of mine overseas. Never did believe in the old adage that a gift of a knife severs a friendship.

Carrying the rat 1 today. Back pocket in my shorts has a Velcro flap. Can't carry the endura the way I normally do.
Just got this for the wife.. Yes it's a kitchen knife, but this Japanese knife is sooo fucking sharp.

>>30498386
Oh really ? How about a picture of your Mercator with a forced patina sitting next to your okapi then imposter ?
>>30498355
I don't know why but all I can think of is the bobs burgers episode where he blows 300$ on a single kitchen knife.
Also I have an edge brand 'original bowie' with a stag handle, serial (or whatever mark) 443, made in Germany.
I can't find info on it, such as age or anything, was wondering if anyone could tell me. I got a new sheath with it, and will post pics in a bit. Last owner tried to heat treat it, I think.
I love how friendly /k/ gets on freedom day. Have a good one dudes don't let them take your rights. If it looks that way I'll fly there and die right along side you all.
Keeping it related. I'm waiting on a 943 Osborne in the mail. But I'm in a rural shithole right now so it won't be here for weeks.
>>30498386
Here's mine. Also this will be the last post I respond to you. You are an imposter,
I've done my best to do nothing but offer helpful advice, promote constructive discussion and post oc Whenever possible.

That's a nice looking knife.
I had one growing up that was marked "original Bowie knife" like that, but it was a Japanese made sabre brand with a plastic handle.
>>30498717
Huh. So original Bowie knife is a common(ish) term
The more you know.
>>30498684
Explain yourself.
>>30498795
Yes, I've seen it on a couple of different knives from different manufactures. Mid fifties to sixties in the case of the sabre ones.
>>30498308
I miss my rat one. Fucked up when using it, ended up taking a large chip out of the wdge...thank god they're cheap.
>>30498808
You by any chance autistic?
>>30498895
It's a nice wide blade, you could always reshape it with a file down to past where the chip is and then reprofile it and have a useable edge.
My grandfather did this all the time to his knives, he was a cheap Frenchman and refused to throw anything away.
You can also get some neat recurve and curve sections in the blade if you only grind on the section of the blade that's chipped.
I've got to retouch the tip of my keychain spydie, chipped it prying off a wiring harness.
I'll post a picture as I do it, probably be a a little rough, but it'll be back to being pokey
The file I usually use for large metal removal.
New tip, shaped with the file and then ground on the puck.

>no tripfags allowed
Why tho?
>>30500817
Spyderco grasshopper . Tiny, 3cr steel. Bought it just to have a knife on my keychain. I think using it on the wiring harness was the very first time I used it for anything. It's pretty meh. But for a keychain knife, it's not bad.
>>30500334
For android, just edit the image after you take it. Do anything you want as long as you alter it in some way and save it in the correct orientation. This is also where you can change inage size. The new image should get uploaded correctly. Alternatively, just take the picture on its side to begin with.

So, balisongs?
>>30503468
You're a little late for that train, the Kimura series is done and /k/ is too full of parrots for you to post anything without getting bitched at.
>>30503562
Can't say I didn't expect something along those lines.
Oh well, I guess I'll just stick with a regular knife and mess around with a cheap training balishlong.
>>30503682
If you can find a used Kimura then go for it, but people tend to hold on to them because they were pretty much the only worthwhile thing in between cheap stuff and BM/Spyderco.
Come to think of it, I've heard that you can remove the spring that holds CS's semi-bali shut, you may want to try that. CS's balisongs were actually fairly highly regarded in ye olden days.
>>30503787
Thanks for the info man, now I can have my silly knife and enjoy it too.
Anyone here handle a Master Cutlery FM-491 Skull Shredder? I'm so tempted to order one for home defense but I have to order it online and can't see how it feels.
1. Is the grip comfortable?
2. How strong is the part where the blades attach to the grip?
3. Does it feel quality?
>>30503949
It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I mostly use it for gardening and it's really held up well so far.
>>30503949
Yeah man that thing is great, I've been using it as my edc for months and it's working awesome. Buy that shit
>>30503976
>>30503968
Tee hee douchebags. Its obviously a novelty knife but I can't own a gun and I'd imagine its the next best thing for in the house. It comes with a display stand so I can have it on my dresser without it looking out of place and honestly, who wants to go toe to toe with someone wielding 2 9" knives?
Anyone here able to give some real insight?
>>30504034
What are you on about I was posting seriously, calm your tits autismo.
I'll be fair with you though, it really can't shred skulls as much as the name implies but it holds up to a good bit of wear, just don't do anything unreasonable with it.
>>30503289
Historically, Wenger was slightly lower quality than Victorinox, but more willing to try less conventional designs.
Victorinox bought Wenger some time in the 2000s, so now the quality is pretty much the same. Victorinox just keeps the brands separate.
>>30502411

Freshly oiled. Used it to split some kindling earlier. Didn't do too bad. Never had to baton a knife to do kindling before. Always had an axe to do it.
>>30499439
If you decide to go forced induction (many people do after getting used to the power to weight)... don't go cheap by buying thicker head gaskets to reduce the compression so you can run more boost. Get new lower compression pistons. I've seen so many blown head gaskets on S2000s where the owners were basically being cheap fuckers.

Blood, sweat and tears.

I usually end up accidentally cutting myself with enough use. I have maybe 2 knives that haven't cut me yet. Guess in that way I leave it up to the knife to decide if it wants to blood bond or not.

>>30508707
This. Always gotta rationalize it.
What ever happened to wanting something simply cause it looks cool?
>>30507933
That came a long way since the last time I seen it. Why heavy though?
>>30509083
Its pretty large (12cm x 4mm blade) for a skinning and prep knife, mostly to get the extra depth on things like pigs, cattle, kangaroos and goats. (Its also fairly heavy with all that stainless and ebony on it!)
The sub-hilt design is mostly there to protect the user, it'll stop your hand slipping down to the blade edge when its covered in all sorts of blood, gore- plus the extensions of the guard bolster which go out over the top of the blade are for when you pinch the blade at its spine for doing shallow cuts and dressing. Kind of like how chefs will grip the blade there, its similar when you're doing skinning of animals.
I've always been fairly mindful of blade safety when it comes to the design and a lot of commercial knives I've been disappointed with

>>30508707
Alright how about pic related? It's the Master Cutlery FM-651 Demon Destroyer. It's almost double the price as the skull shredder and it looks like its more sturdy. Instead of just having a fist bar it has a pistol grip for increased maneuverability. Plus it has 3 blades instead of 2.
>>30509995
>Alright how about pic related?
>>30504034
>Its obviously a novelty knife
Seriously, are you just 'pretending' to be retarded?
>>30510044
I realize its obviously for display purposes, that doesnt mean it cant be used for real. Have you never heard the term 'functional art'?
The part where the blades are connected to the grip is 416 stainless steel, I'd imagine it's strong enough for me to punch a home invader without breaking. Thoughts?
>>30509318
Glock 42. Recoil is a peach, .380 ACP isn't big but if you really need a gun it's still gonna take the fight out of your enemy fast.
If you want ultra small then go for the Ruger LCP, but the trigger is horrendous and the recoil sucks. I can't pop off more than one shot before I have to set the damn thing down. On the G42, I could shoot it all day with no problems.
>>30510066
i'm looking at the ruger lcp right now, can i customize the parts? could i put better sights, trigger, and put a lazer on it?
>>30510060
Get out. Just get the fuck out. And don't you dare come back.
>>30510096
The trigger and sights are supposed to suck. The trigger is the way it is to compensate for not having a safety and the sights are part of the slide and small so as to not snag.
As for laser, yes! My favorite is the Viridian green laser. It also has the magnet activation so if you put a magnet in your holster, it will activate the laser when you draw the gun.
>>30510107
Fuck you I turned off my trip as the OP said.
>>30510116
thats really cool. i'll be sure to get that lazer, i'm looking at comparable guns with this one and they have some better sights and don't have any snagging problems. can people switch the trigger anyways? are there many cases where people shot themselves with anything any different?
>>30510060
>Have you never heard the term 'functional art'?
Of course I have, usually from people who buy wallhangers and try to convince everyone that they won't fall apart with a few good shakes.
Pic related is functional art. What you want is crap, and I don't see why you even bothered asking for opinions if you're dead set on buying it.
>416 stainless steel
FFS, at least Buck uses 420HC.
>>30510096
Laser, yes.
I wouldn't change the trigger even though it sucks. It's their way of compensating for the lack of safety. I mean nothing is going to possibly pull the trigger far enough for it to go off unless it's someone trying to shoot something, it's better than having a safety you have to switch off in a hurry and it keeps a smaller form factor.
But yes, a laser is possible and definitely would help, not only intimidation but also ease of aim
>>30510154
I mean the problem with the trigger is that its a DAO and has a ton of travel. You cant really do much besides polish some surfaces and make it less gritty. It will still be long and heavy.
Are you deadset on a .380? You should look into single stack 9mms. Check out the M&P Shield and the Kahr PM9.
>>30510167
...You do realize the number just refers to its grade, and that a lower number doesn't indicate poor quality, but just different properties?
You realize most high end SS gun barrels are made of 416r, right?
>>30510200
And gun barrels make great knives. 416 barely has enough carbon to attain the hardness desirable in a knife.
>>30510170
yeah i'd feel more confident if i could better see what i'll be putting a hole through. i'm reading that the trigger has been recently "improved" with the official custom ruger http://www.ruger.com/products/lcpCustom/specSheets/3740.html
but this one doesn't come with the cool laser that the other i was looking at
>>30510187
i ride a road bike to work and back in the dark and go through some really shady areas and need something light that i can put in my pocket and bring hidden to work with me so that it doesn't alarm clients or coworkers or anything so i need the smallest without being too ridiculous but i don't know anything about firearms.
>>30510107
Just talked to Lindsay
"This HHH Feather Damascus is 1080 and 15n20"
>>30510224
I ride a CBR600r to work when its not raining, and I carry a kahr mk9 daily. I really would look into single stack 9s.
For instance, the LCP's dimensions are:
L: 5.16"
W: .82"
H: 3.80"
Weight: 9.75 oz (empty)
Whereas the PM9 is:
L: 5.42"
W: .90"
H: 4.0"
Weight: 14 oz (empty)
>>30510200
>You do realize the number just refers to its grade, and that a lower number doesn't indicate poor quality, but just different properties?
Yes, I'm aware of that.

>>30513126
Just as with anything else there isn't really a best, there's just a list of things that you'll want to look for and a multitude of products that have those features. IMO pretty much anything from a manufacturer in good standing is decent, although you'll probably want something at least 3mm thick so if you go with a Tramontina or another thin blade then you'll want something wide like a bolo. Ontario is the standard in the US, but Condor also makes nice stuff. Barteaux made great machetes but Imacasa didn't want to compete so they bought them a few years ago and simply shut them down and now all you can find are used ones.

*Mercator. Sorry phone has silly auto correct. :^)
>>30510121
You should turn it back on so we know who to never ever take knife advice from.
We should change the name to shitpost edition
>>30514060
Anyone who wastes money on a spider knife should donate their money to retards anonymous instead. Do something to help your situation.
>>30514333
What do you edc? It's sharp and it flies open out of my pocket. Does the trick for me.
>>30514333
>he doesnt like the best bang for your buck knives
>>30514354
I carry a leatherman wave. Anyone who feels the need to carry a dedicated blade has autism.
>>30514429
You need to trip up multitoolfag so we can filter you
>>30514429
You're the one with autism if you think a multitool knife is anywhere near on par with a standalone blade.
>>30514553
You have autism if you ever think under any circumstance you will successfully use a knife for self defense. A knife is a tool, if you want to carry a weapon get a gun.
The fact is, if you got a multitool you would find yourself using the pliers, and screwdrivers far more often than the blade. But whatever, stay edgy (pun intended).
>>30514578
>You have autism if you ever think under any circumstance you will successfully use a knife for self defense.
Nice strawman.
>The fact is, if you got a multitool you would find yourself using the pliers, and screwdrivers far more often than the blade.
Because everyone does exactly what you do for a living?
>>30514636
>he thinks he will use a knife more than pliers
kek
When did you get diagnosed?
>>30491898
my wife got me this, im really happy with it.
Anyone here have a RAT Worx?
>>30514578
You said self defense, no one else did. Nearly everyone here carries for everyday utilitarian use. Some of us want a last ditch defense option, even though we carry pistols as well.
>>30514650
>he thinks he will use a knife more than pliers
I do use a knife more than pliers.
You got real shitposty real quick once someone challenged you, how about you use those pliers to suture your torn up tush.
>>30514696
So if its for utility, you are arguing that a dedicated blade is better than a tool with a blade, serrated blade, saw, file, large phillips head, small phillips head, extra large flat head, large flat head, small flathead, scissors, wire stripper/can opener, and pliers?
kys.
>>30509574
How did you break the tips on 3 of them?
>>30514719
utility cutting my man. im not an electrician.
>>30514737
Only electricians need screwdrivers and pliers? Literally hilarious.
>>30514747
you continuing to shitpost is hilarious. good work refuting the argument that a REAL knife cuts better than your leathermanshit
>>30514761
You havent been refuted?
>>30514719
This is literally an "I can do everything you can do better, and I can do so much more than you too!" moment.
>>30514784
you keep dodging the argument and moving goalposts. good job bud.
>>30514820
The argument was sparked here:
>>30514354
Something something pot is black too.
>>30514861
YEAH BUT CAN YOUR LEATHERMAN DO THIS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT0SLnnWI7g
>>30514870
>autism, the post.
Knife fags are insufferable.
>>30514883
yet you come into the thread and continue to sperg as your autism is exceedingly triggered.
>>30514883
>i dodge all valid points given to me solely so i can shitpost
well done
>>30514899
No I posted my knife earlier. Dedicated knives are cool sure, but are silly for 'EDC supar tacticalllllllllll'
Just admit it, you like playing with overpriced knives because the phallic shape excites you.
>>30514861
I just wondered what he carried instead.
>>30514920
you didnt post shit. you said you carried and multitool and some people argued that stand alone knives are better as KNIVES than a blade on a leatherman and you got butthurt. fuck off back to /b/ or whatever hell you came from.
>>30514672
It does look pretty Damn nice man. What's the steel composition?
Just got this today
>>30515035
from where? a mass grave in the Guadalcanal?
>>30514982
Here you go faggot;
>>30502833
Oh, and:
>some people argued that stand alone knives are better as KNIVES than a blade on a leatherman
False, here was the claim:
>You're the one with autism if you think a multitool knife is anywhere near on par with a standalone blade.
The fact is, that a multitool is a much more versatile tool than a stand alone knife. Any argument otherwise is based in mental illness.
>>30515083
your 2 greentexts say the exact same thing.
>>30515083
>Oh, and:
>>some people argued that stand alone knives are better as KNIVES than a blade on a leatherman
>False, here was the claim:
>>You're the one with autism if you think a multitool knife is anywhere near on par with a standalone blade.

>>30514048
Hmmmm...
Ignoring this massive faggot shitposting on a Tuesday night, someone please tell me where to start on benchmade, aside from the griptillian.
>>30513906
Great image. Many keks.
>>30515083
>The fact is, that a multitool is a much more versatile tool than a stand alone knife.
What does that have to do with the greentexts you posted? Who ITT has even said otherwise?
>>30515181

Sharps is so fucking annoying Jesus Christ I cant handle his autism
>>30515181

>t. Leather man
>>30515249
Is that the Osborne or is he just a designer?
>>30515271
That's a perfect name.
Once he gets some ironic shitposty followers they'll be Leather Man and the Leatherettes.
>>30515259
Do you use the serrated blade on the leatherman much ?
>>30515083
So you carry give or take 250gm to have a knife in your pocket, yeah think I'll stick to 75gm and leave my tools in my toolbox.
>>30515283
940 Osborne, Osborne being the designer of that model.
>>30515364
>he doesnt know how to properly abbreviate grams
>he thinks 175g is a large enough difference to notice
>>30515364
>grown men fighting about what each other carry around in their pockets.
This board disgusts me.
>>30515389
Not him, but I carry both. There is a big difference in weight between my LM Surge and BM 940. Having a quickly accessible blade is just more convinient than fumbling with a MT and its sheath. My multitool is used for pliers, scissors, and screwdrivers. Worth having a little extra weight to me though, especially seeing how the dedicated blade only adds 82 grams.
Does this count as a knife
>>30515432
You've got a pretty good set going. The family is lookin sharp! Been eyeing that ti-lite for a while now... I'll pick one up eventually, but I think I want to try an endura wave first.
>>30515505
It's a bayonet
>>30515505
>Blade: check
>Handle: check
That's a knife in my book.
>>30515508
Thanks brother, I've been meaning to get more Spyderco as well, namely a PM2 or an endura wave too.
>>30498308
>those hands
sup andre
>>30515505
Technically it's a spear but it also functions as a knife, saw and a wire cutter.
>>30510060
>>30509995
>>30504034
>>30503949
oh god
I don't think he is trolling
Anon please, reconsider.
Buy some fucking pepper spray, a tazer, learn how to use a fucking bo staff I don't care
Just please don't let me wake up one morning and hear about how a fag got shot for being a dipshit with two toothpicks super glued to a maxipad

love the ontario 499, best cheap blade imo. love and hate the steel, however i think if i reprofile the edge i will get more use before on the stone. what did you do?
>>30515580
>>30515670
Yesterday was the first time I took it out to dick around. It was fairly dull, I had left the factory edge to see how it would do, split some kindling with it.
Sharpened it on the stone that came with it at the existing angle when I got home. A reprofile to a smaller angle would help. Tried to make a fuzz stick for kicks and it was useless.
