>>30496226
Pew pew
>>30496222
Kinda, they just made a straight up gyrojet. Bolters in 40k are basically a grenade tipped gyrojet round that's launched by powder (which eliminates the weakness of gyrojets having no muzzle velocity).
Biggest problem would be keeping it stable.
>>30496271
Close enough
>>30496226

>>30496267
>How in the fuck do you get tungsten to react? Thats like saying Im going to use lead to ignite steel.
You blow up a nuclear bomb behind it and use the force of the explosion to propel the tungsten into a target to make a direct energy weapon that is shooting a particle beam of c fractional tungsten.
"Remember that in the vacuum of space, most of the energy of a nuclear warhead is in the form of x-rays. The nuclear device is encased in a radiation case of x-ray opaque material (uranium) with a hole in the top. This forces the x-rays to to exit only from the hole. Whereupon they run full tilt into a large mass of beryllium oxide (channel filler).
The beryllium transforms the nuclear fury of x-rays into a nuclear fury of heat. Perched on top of the beryllium is the propellant: a thick plate of tungsten. The nuclear fury of heat turns the tungsten plate into a star-core-hot spindle-shaped-plume of ionized tungsten plasma. The x-ray opaque material and the beryllium oxide also vaporize a few microseconds later, but that's OK, their job is done.
The tungsten plasma jet hits square on the Orion drive pusher plate, said plate is designed to be large enough to catch all of the plasma. With the reference design of nuclear pulse unit, the plume is confined to a cone of about 22.5 degrees. About 85% of the nuclear device's energy is directed into the desired direction, which I think you'd agree is a vast improvement over 10%.
About this time the representatives of the military (who were funding this project) noticed that if you could make the plume a little faster and with a narrower cone, it would no longer be a propulsion system component. It would be a nuclear directed energy weapon. Thus was born project Casaba-Howitzer."
>>30496226
Is dat a famas
>>30496395
It's hard to tell what the most hardcore thing about Project Orion was, but a nuclear equivalent to HEAT is definitely up there.
>>30495340
>7.62 bullpup
Just make this and call it a day.
>>30496459
I've always liked the unrelated project pluto.
Hey guys lets make a ram jet but rather than burning jet fuel lets make it use an exposed nuclear reactor core.
>>30496525
Forgot the text;
The proposed use for nuclear-powered ramjets would be to power a cruise missile, called SLAM, for Supersonic Low Altitude Missile. In order to reach ramjet speed, it would be launched from the ground by a cluster of conventional rocket boosters. Once it reached cruising altitude and was far away from populated areas, the nuclear reactor would be made critical. Since nuclear power gave it almost unlimited range, the missile could cruise in circles over the ocean until ordered "down to the deck" for its supersonic dash to targets in the Soviet Union. The SLAM as proposed would carry a payload of many nuclear weapons to be dropped on multiple targets, making the cruise missile into an unmanned bomber. After delivering all its warheads, the missile could then spend weeks flying over populated areas at low altitudes, causing tremendous ground damage with its shock wave. When it finally lost enough power to fly, and crash-landed, the engine would have a good chance of spewing deadly radiation for months to come.
>>30496395
you are a moron. The hard X-rays coming off of a fissile core would ionize the beryllium and make it transparent(low Z-number), and the tungsten would vaporize into a plasma by direct radiative heating. What you're describing seems to make sense in common thinking, but you imply that the beryllim conducts heat to the tungsten. On the contrary, the only way that X-rays can heat the plate in the 3 or so microseconds it has until reactivity deinsertion is to contact them directly. What is especially interesting is that the U-238 "hohlraum" does not actually reflect the X-rays in the desired direction, but is actually heated through absorption of primary X-rays until it too, is at similar temperatures to the fissile core and emits its own X-rays from black body radiation. In this way, nearly every empty space(read: filled with steel, aluminum or neutron-blocking beryllium) is in thermal equilibrium at once.
>>30496567
Who do I believe some guy on 4chan or nuclear weapons designers?
>>30496567
well, at least whoever wrote that inadequately described it I mean.
>>30496588
The channel filler is meant to keep neutron flux from interfering with the undetonated weapons stored inside the vehicle.

Holy shit america was capable of it in the 60's but the whole thing was canceled due to it being pure death.
>>30496602
You'd probably need fins with some kind of sabot to protect both the fins and the rocket assemblies.
It's really the trajectory that'd be weird. It'll start off with basically a ballistic trajectory (how long it's ballistic depends on when you ignite the gyrojets and how quickly they can get to full burn), then it'll go into a powered flight, then back to a ballistic trajectory (if you didn't know, ballistic=not powering itself). Tuning that to where there's no strange kicks in typical engagement ranges (like it typically falling a foot then flying straight) would be a major goal...but yeah, we could make it...making it work well would be expensive as fuck though.
>>30496661
>can fly for months or years
this is completely retarded, they ran the engine for 5 minutes max in testing.
>>30496675
The design spec was for operation until the nuclear fuel source ran out. Try not to be stupid and think that an engine test is representative of the max possible operational duration.
>>30496675
And that means that it couldn't possibly run longer? The program was dropped for reasons mentioned by the original anon. It was in no way a finished project, and therefore not representative of a potential one.

do you believe that?

>>30496323
That's because it was based on a real gun.
>>30496783
It was designed for deep penetration, by using a climbing maneuver to avoid coastal air defenses, it would then dive to low altitudes over the russian territory to avoid radar.
at that time, the 1960's, rocket engines werent up to snuff, it had to be nuclear

Hlyrics fuck dude that is the game of my childhood. Just played it last night and had such an amazing blast it is still by far and away the best first person shooter I have ever played

I liked Outlaw Star. I liked it as much as Gundam Wing and more than Dragon Ball Z

>Mobile suits with 120mm MGs
>280mm-360mm Bazookas
>Beam rifles
>Beam Sabers
>space ships with Mega Particle guns
>Minovsky fusion rectors
>Minovsky particles
>Space colonies

>Gundam Wing
Now that's a real underrated show. Probably the best of the non-UC Gundam series really. And it's got the best Gundams of any of the series.

TR-116 Projectile Rifle
The TR-116 Projectile Rifle is a prototype weapon developed by the Federation for situations where conventional energy weapons might be rendered useless by damping fields or other countermeasures. It is essentially a conventional rifle, but with a rather futuristic visual style. It is introduced in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Field of Fire", where it is used in conjunction with a micro-transporter and a visual scanner headpiece to create an extremely potent sniper rifle. With the scanner, the shooter can precisely target people hundreds of meters away and through solid matter with no difficulty. Using the transporter attached to the barrel, the slug can then be transported at full velocity, materializing at point-blank range.

I really don't like any Gundam outside the original UC timeline, I love UC so much I can't really get into any other continuities.
Tried watching Wing after a friend with no other Gundam experience gushed about it, but found it to be not really interesting to me. I don't knock anyone who likes the show, but it's just not for me.
Watching Unicorn at the end of my long love affair with the UC timeline as a whole was the most glorious feeling of catharsis I've ever experienced from a show.

I love the design, finally a practical application of tech they have just laying around.
But I don't like the fact that it exists, because it means the Federation is fighting a losing war, with projections saying they will lose tens of billions of people, and they have kickass weapons tech like this just laying around that they're not using because.... no reason.

Why do so many people think that it's a good idea to have spikes etc. protrude from armor? Quick neck break anyone?

Dat Bison

Wing was my first Gundam series ever, and I've found it's a great standalone just in that they don't seem to follow the
>we'll just copy paste and condense the UC timeline
that most spin-offs do. Granted, they could have done a lot better with much of the show, but it was fairly good as it was. With some better writing, I feel like they might have been able to reach LOGH levels of politicking.
I also loved G-Gundam for the sheer insanity of it.

China.

Which Gundam series is the webm?
>>30497223
Considering 50 cent has supposedly been shot several times. You'd think he understands how firearms work...
>>30506522
Yeah G-Gundam was good for the sheer absurdity of it, an entertaining romp of screaming batshit insanity to be sure.
Still love me the good old UC, it's one of the few fictional settings I've fully fallen in love with. The original Gundam, apart from some wonky design and occasional bit of filler, is a just plain amazing show that I suggest everyone even vaguely interested watch at least once.
Seeing the same world develop over decades with the various mainline shows, and the side OVAs really gave me a great sense of the progression of history.
I kinda liked Wing for a bit, but the stupidly overpowered protagonists kinda ruined it for me, there wasn't any tension for me, and the biggest threat to the protagonists was apparently Hiro committing suicide, again.
Still I recognize it as the best of the spinoffs, at least it's not that one where the characters all have neon hair or are literal terrorists bashing on about their perfect morally superior message.
>>30506600
Gundam Unicorn.
Plot's a bit hard to follow, especially if you haven't seen all the other UC shows.
But the fight scenes are amazing.
>>30506600
Gundam Unicorn.
Essentially a love letter to the fans and a final capstone on the central conflict that began the original Mobile Suit Gundam series.
It's only like 6 episodes of varying length, gorgeous animation, but don't watch it until you've watched through at least the original series and probably Zeta gundam because you won't have any idea what is going on.
I want basically all the Prawn weapons from District 9. Especially dat OP as fawk power armor
>>30506654
>>30506644
Thanks, didn't know there were Gundam series that looks serious and hardcore instead of the usually kawaii-bullshit and moe.
>tfw the newest gundam is an RX-78
>tfw the cast is not filled with stupid fucking boyband faggots but real fighting men
Anyone watching this?
>>30506428
>Why do so many people think that it's a good idea to have spikes etc. protrude from armor? Quick neck break anyone?
It's not regular armor. It's an alien biomechanical space suit that binds to you on the cellular level. And can even do full body regeneration from a couple cells left on the control metal on the forehead.
-Boosts every normal capability
-Has a high-power IR laser charged by waste heat just above the forehead
-Pair of high-power particle cannons in the chest under the plates
-The two orbs at the mouth are sonic emitters that can negate or make sonic attacks
-The spikes from the elbows are high-frequency blades
-The orbs at the top of the head are advanced sensors that relay directly to the brain like additional senses
-At the belt a gravity control orb allows for flight, defense, and, by focusing the gravity waves into a ball, attack
-Can be freely dismissed to and recalled from a pocket dimension
