You know the drill: debate post-cerberus Remington quality, bitch about Turkish made guns, and more!

Pic related is some OC for those of us buying shotguns during the July 4th sales weekend
>>
Can someone explain to me why I would want a flight control wad for home defense? Why would I want all the pellets to hit the exact same spot?

Wouldnt I want them to spread out a little bit to increase the chances I hit something important, like heart, spine, lungs, etc?

I wouldn't say it's hard to swap out barrels on the 520 at all. Different gauge barrels, yeah, you gotta get the appropriate bolt in there, but that's a pretty simple process as well.

No pics right now but I am a unfortunate owner of a post 08 Remington 870 Express (cant remember exact name but can take 3 1/2 inch shells) and I must say the gun overall performs alright however there are two huge reasons why I will Never buy a Remington shotgun again.
1. Warped/low quality extractor that fails to extract about once or twice every 200 hundred rounds. This Is a bit of a problem since this is a pump shotgun.
2. Cheap shells in general expand enough to get stuck in the chamber requiring a knife to dig them out.

Garbage list.
>>
>>30485353
Agreed on the Winchester 1300. I have the 1300 xtr and the main downside is the extractor spring assembly. Very easy to bend if the barrel isn't put back in properly, resulting in ftf a lot. Just got mine fixed, cost $25 to have the gunsmith bend the two pieces back into place(pin and leaf spring.)

Do they make new production Ithacas exactly like in the picture? All of the ones I've seen don't have the full length tube and that style.

Also, I'd put the High Standard fudd shotguns on that list. They have a beautifully smooth action.

Nope. The new defense models don't have the barrel tang that sits over the magazine cap. It doesn't look as nice, but it's left out for good reason. You can swap barrels and tubes out now without sending the gun off to the factory. Not as sexy but more functional

I'm not massively opposed to going aftermarket but the real draw of buying a pump for me right now is the low price. I already have a break which I love and I plan to eventually get a semi-auto when (if) I make lots (some) of money so I don't know if I'd be willing to go above and beyond for it
>>
>>30492039
In that case, slightly older (10 years or so) 500s tend to have nicer wood than those made today, and it would be cheaper than new too
>>
>>30487891
Nope. No one can and no one will be able to.
Its good stuff for somewhat longer ranges.
Non buffered 00 buck is tried and true for close range. 2 3/4" for easy cycling.
I can swap to a slug pretty damned fast but I'm sure to get some incoming flack for that remark.
There is also PDX-1 which is a compromise for those that would want longer range with some spread.

I'm in the process of taking my guns out to a good nature locale to take full, aesthetically pleasing photos of all of my guns, my Ithaca's included.
I have two; a 16 gauge with a 28" barrel, and also a 12 gauge with a 20" barrel and rifle type sights.
Both are Featherlight Deerslayers, and both can slam-fire.
This is the only photo I have on-hand involving my Ithaca's. I'll be happy to contribute to the scattergat threads more in the future.
I also have a beat-to-fuck Brazilian single-shot, barrel cut down to 18.5".

>>
>>30494161
Well, it seems to keep all of your pellets together for several meters after leaving the barrel. Which makes very little sense to me unless you were fighting at long range for some reason. Which you would not be doing in a home defense situation. And even then slugs would probably be better.

#1 buck (what he recommends) is about the size of a 22LR bullet. Would you rather shoot the exact same spot 16 times, or 16 random spots several inches across?

It seems like pretty much anything would be destroyed from just one pellet, 16 in the same spot is way overkill. And spreading out the shots by several inches would greatly increase your chances of hitting something important.

Recently bought that turkshit.
The finish is fragile and easily gets wear marks from the pump riding on it, there are several small hit marks and dents on the sights and rail, the stock's plastic had small molding surplus that I had to remove, the front sight wasn't sitting flush on the barrel and I had to push it in place with a vise. So yeah, that's the QC you would expect from kebabland.
However I have to say, for the price I am pleasantly surprised. The gun is as tacticool as it gets, no need to buy any extra, everything is already there. 7+1 capacity, the adjustable stock has no wobble at all, can hold 4 cartridges (two holes are very tight though, might need to file those down) and can be detached from the pistol grip with the simple push of one button.
What I especially love is the disassembly, just unscrew the cap on the magazine tube and everything comes off right away : barrel, pump assembly, bolt carrier. The trigger assembly is held by two pins and that's it.
Really cool gun, for the price, would recommend.

>>
>>30493005
You should be practicing skeet if you plan on dove hunting. Since you plan on getting a pump, you can ask the puller to pull you report doulbes instead of true skeet. That just means that he/she will wait until you fire your first shot to pull the second bird. You can shoot true doubles with a pump, but you are at quite a disadvantage compared to autoloaders and double barrels. Trap is more for pheasant or quail (birds that fly up and away from you). Also, I'm not sure where your uncle lives but dove season is usually in the fall not the winter.
>>
>>30494174
>I read something once that said 20 gauge is 75% the load with half the kick.
You are correct that in a standard #8 target load is about 75%. 20ga is usually 7/8oz while 12ga is 1oz. But you can get 20ga shells that are loaded higher, and you can get 12ga shell that are loaded lower.

You are very mistaken about the felt recoil, though. That more has to do with the gun weight more than anything. My single shot 20ga has a lot more felt recoil and is harder to shoot long compared to my 12ga benelli supernova just because of how light it is.

I have no idea why that new flight control shit has become so popular. People seriously get obsessed with buckshot from 25 yards filling only a single hole, but that takes away its whole advantage.

You don't really need one at all, because like you spread, you want to increase the spread. Unbuffered buckshot is perfectly fine. Cheaper, too.

Where'd you grab yours? An 1897 with a 28" barrel and mod choke is my dream shotgun. From what I can see like 90% of them are 30" and full.

I don't want it for home defense.
I want it for backyard fun.
I specifically said I refuse to mutilate it. Just a barrel change and keep the other one to the side.

what is the correct way to shoot with this grip? it is really uncomfortable to shoulder it
>>
>>30500003

I actually got an autoloader a few years back, but I've never really used it for much. I'll look into skeet then.

I'm in central Texas. 1st season is September and the first half of October. It's often still rather miserably warm then, so many people instead opt for the shorter 2nd season in December/January.
>>
>>30500524

what is that, fucking 36"?
>>
>>30500524
>because like you spread
like you said*

my brain's melting
>>
>>30500525
You'd grab it exactly like you would a normal stock, but without the actual stock part to bring to your shoulder. That way, the recoil goes perpendicular with your wrist, rather than directly into it, making it a lot better to shoot.
>>
>>30500586
I think it's 30 and it also has a full choke.

>>
>>30500642
Used models go for pretty good prices, but new models are pretty goddamn expensive. Something like $700?

But you should buy used with most guns anyways, especially shotguns.
>>
>>30500632

I'm trying that right now and it hurts my wrist
>>
>>30500677
I think they're only outrageously expensive if your buy from Ithaca directly. Try poking around distributors and the price is a little better.

How do I shoot a shotgun without hurting my shoulder?
>>
>>30500851
You face the stock away from yourself and pull the trigger.
>>
>>30500851
Pull it in hard, keep it tight, and position it right.

What's the shortest barrel shotgun I can legally own?
>>
>>30500851
By not being a baby man.
>>
>>30500851
Serious answer: Lean into it, press the butt deep into your shoulder, squeeze and don't pull the trigger.

Joke answer: dont be a pusy lol
>>
>>30500866
The barrel cannot be shorter than 18 inches or the gun can't be shorter 26 inches.

Unless the shotgun was manufactured without a shoulder stock, in which case it's classified as "Any Other Weapon".
>>
>>30500866
>tfw no 8 gauge pump action
>>
>>30500851
Might need a better fitting shotgun that is heavier. I have this small single shot 20ga that starts to hurt my shoulder after about 100 rounds through it at the trap field. Its just so damn light, and the stock is small so its hard to really get it into my shoulder right. I can shoot my 12ga benelli all day long and never feel a thing.

If you are talking about just shooting one round and it hurting, then learn how to hold a shotgun and stop being a pussy.

>>30500969
A 12ga 3 and 1/2" magnum is pretty much the load weight of a 10ga, so that is the closest you are going to get. The only practical purpose for it is turkey hunting, to be honest.

>>
>>30500851
Stop being a bitch.
Also put it in the pouch of your shoulder, keep it close to you so that it pushes you (instead of hitting you), lean forward so that it pushes your whole body (rather than just your shoulder) and shoot low brass birdshot.
Anyone who shoots slugs or high brass will eventually get a bruise.

If you're new to shooting rounds with more power, it's just gunna take some getting used to, but it won't hurt if you do it right, unless you're shooting a good number of rounds.
>>30500866
18 inches for smooth bore.
>>
>>30500866
If you have a shotgun that's never had a shoulder stock attatched, then the barrel length can be whatever you want as long as the OAL doesn't go below 26"

But then, I checked their website and found out they will be making these neat looking shotguns in the future. May consider buying one if they make them decent

What have you done to her? Benelli is most beautiful with a plain bead sight. I hope you shoot nothing but slugs out of them.
>>
>>30504041
Unfortunately they aren't mine, but on my Benelli I have ghost ring sights, and they're just as easy to use if not more so than a bead. Obviously not in all applications though.

PLS answer
>>
>>30504071
The Stevens is a cooler design, some models had problems with the fore ends de soldering though. The maverick is just a budget 500, main difference being you can't modify the tube or fore end out of the box. Get the Maverick.
>>
>>30504065
Shotguns to me are for wingshooting, so I want the largest sight picture possible. Not to mention that wingshooting is more about the proper lead and follow through than it is about precise aiming. I guess I wouldn't mind having a ghost ring for turkey hunting, but I do just fine without one.

>>30504071
Honestly, it doesn't matter. Get which ever one you can find cheaper since youre just getting something to hold you over until you get money. Even then, a 590a1 isn't that expensive as far as shotguns go. Don't 590a1 have fixed cylinder choke? If they do, I don't see what the big deal is about them. If they have interchangeable chokes, then its not too bad.

benelli supernovas are top titty if anybody is on the fence for a pump

srs battle rattle though so idk how it will do deer huntng
>>
>>30504398
In case anyone is wonder the difference between a supernova and just a nova, a supernova takes 3 1/2". If you see "super" on the name of any of benelli's shotguns (super vinci, super black eagle, etc), it just means it takes up to 3 1/2".
>>
>>30504602
Also the Suoernova stock is removable, the novas is not, it's part of the same polymer mold covering the receiver. Different trigger guard as well.

What kind of slugs should I buy if I want to kill a human from medium distance? (like 100 feet maybe)

Do I want segmented slugs or hollowpoint slugs? Or something else entirely? I know fragmenting ammo is gimmick tier in handguns, but a 12 gauge shotgun has a whole lot more mass to work with. Maybe 1/3 of a shotgun slug would actually do something decent?

Or just hollowpoint this sucker and blow a 1 inch hole in his chest?

Also this PDX stuff is a total gimmick right? 3 buckshot pellets and a slug? That seems like it tries to do everything and thus does nothing well.

Is there a brand thats considered good for slugs? Winchester Ranger is ok?
>>
>>30505680

Why are you trying to assassinate someone with a shotgun, man?
