So /k/, Here shortly I will be making a new rifle. Budget is 1500$ max, optic included ( or not, depending on build I have mediocre optics I can use for a while)

My goal , up to around 800 yards, unknown distance, Steel and paper mostly. ( ~ 95% of the time)
I like bolt guns, but I wouldn't mind a semi.
I'm most familiar with .308 win, but other calibers are not out the question.

I currently own a savage 10 fpc w/ McMillan a3 stock in .308.

Any suggestions or ideas?

>800 yards with any sort of accuracy
.30-06 or .338 Lapua Magnum

If you were a serious shooter, your glass would cost as much or more than your rifle.

>800 yards
>suggests 338 with the phrase "any sort of accuracy"

all of my wut

Retarded to the max.

Honestly, I'm a bitch. I dont enjoy recoil.

I'm not a fan of 308 in a bolt gun.

I shoot a ton of 6.5creedmoor right now, and I've taken it to 1450, before I hit transonic instability issues with my current loading.

The conundrum: load hot and burn through shit hornady brass, or load medium, and limit myself under a mile.

don't worry he spent too much time watching WWII movies or reading about operatorsnipers that make shots at 2k yards and thinks that those are legitimately the best rounds for 800 yards.
>>
>>30481312
What's your set up?
Looking for rifle more than caliber, but I wouldn't mind venturing into the 6mm area.
>>
Come on /k/ ? Not even some smart ass suggestions? I'm disappointed.

Savage or whatever floats your boat
In 7mm Fuck You (Rem Mag)

To get the same ballistic coefficient as the 162Amax bullets, you have to go over 200gr in 30-06....

Eats through barrels like a fat man in a cupcake factory.

what's a good bolt rifle for plain recreation?

shooting at 300 yards or less, figured .223 caliber.

don't want bottom-of-the-barrel savage stuff

Bolt gun on a budget? Savage Model 10. Get a heavy bbl and get a chassis of your choice down the road. The ammo is really more of the question if you plan to be shooting at 800yrds.

>>30481220

Never do this.

CZ 550 FS in .243 Not too expensive, and the rifle is a massive blast of Old School Cool that your grandchildren will treasure.

There ya go, sport. I'd point you at a .30-06 for that CZ, and that whole rig comes in around $1300 or less, so you can buy a case and a sling and some ammo.

Just dont

with the recent changes in CMP/NRA service rifle rules, I'd go around looking for ARs built in a "national match" configuration.

Rock River makes the ones used at the Small Arms Firing School at the National Matches, and their sub-MOA, and in your budget. https://rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=226

I did state to get it in .30-06, and what optic would YOU recommend to match that price point?

There is nothing wrong with a VX-1, and that one goes out to delicious 12x since OP wants to get out to 800 yards.

OP is probably crazy, but ehn, it's his money.
