Why would it be more complex? A revolver is a revolver. Pull the trigger, rotate the cylinder, cock the hammer and let it drop. There's no magic, just springs and levers and cams.

Poor ballistic performance is a pretty damning flaw. If you're going .40/9mm you just get added weight and reduced capacity compared to a semi-auto for the same cartridge.

you're not going to get much more capacity from a similarly sized semi-auto. pocket carry pistols are single stack so you're going to have 6-8 rounds on average, and .40 short and weak out of a 2" revolver has better ballistic performance than .38 or .357.
