>How good/bad is the Colt M16A4?

I am planning on getting one as my sole "go to" 556 rifle. As of now I have a FS2000, M16A1 and a few other obscure rifles but I think a modern AR platform would make much more sense.
>>
>>30478303
good luck ever finding one in stock..... or for less than $1200+

>$999 when they first came out
>dropped to $849 3 months before abu hajar blasted those sodomites
>Come get ur Colt M16A4, only $1299 now!
>Sold out within 1 day.
>>
>>30478327
They will be back in stock before November
>>
>>30478303
You will have better luck just putting one together. Google Aero precision M16A4 and they have a nice M16A4 copy for about a grand.
>>
>>30478432
only thing is, they will be churning them out ASAP, which makes me weary to get one. Also, they come with some speciul snoeflaek FCG, which means its gotta get replaced ASAP.
>>
>>30478448
>not having the greatest roll mark of all time.
>>
>>30478448
They're all sold out of their A4 lowers, too.
>>

A M16A4 lookalike isnt the same thing as one built to Colt's supersekrit TDP specs.

Just like the FN15A4 is a steaming pile of lookalike shit as well.

What advantages does a m16 bring over a m4
>>
>>30479522
None
>>
>>30479522
Increased muzzle velocity, longer sight radius, the handguard is long enough for that fully extended support hand c clamp style.

Thats not to say the m16 is better than the m4. They both have pros and cons

OP, i think that there are better options out there. I think if you actually have an fs2000, you already have a fantastic 5.56 rifle. GI mags with anti tilt followers are best 5.56 mags anyways, and the fs2000 is an excellent rifle id trust my life on. Furthermore, m16a1 > a4, just for the weight savings alone, but also superior pistol grip and shorter stock
>>
>>30478303
It's not really any more "modern" than am A1, other than it being easier to mount sights or red dots on it.

Okay. Id still rather have an ar build than an a4 my go to fighting weapon.

The a4 is too long for my taste. Although i have a 14.5 rifle, a 16 or 18 inch free floated barrel seems to be the best all around choice.
>>
>>30479716
No meme.

Colts are worth $600 at most. You retards will go out and pay $1000+ for something Smith makes cheaper, and better. There's a reason your shitty company has gone bankrupt so many times.
>>
>>30479739
If colts are worth $600 then why can you not buy one for $600?

>>
Long barrel armalites are pretty good, noticeable difference in weight between a rifle and carbine length barrel. Carry handle/iron sights are fun to shoot off rounds. Spot to stick cleaning shit in the stock. Handguards might make a little rattle noise but their a lot more comfortable than rails to hold on to.

You can always swap all that stuff out if you don't like it and make it tacticool.
>>
>>30479739
You do realize S&W has gone bankrupt too?

>>
>>30479929
Saying that someone going bankrupt is a bad thing and then praising a company that's gone bankrupt is inherently hypocritical. Colt never went into bankruptcy because their weapons aren't good. Their marketing was dicks and they never tried to make anything other than what was selling at the time. Meanwhile, S&W went bankrupt trying to cater to the Clintons

What? Are you talking about SP1 bolts? I have a NOS Colt bolt from 1970's and its is 100% milspec.
>>
I have one, they're exactly what you'd expect from the company who made the 6920. They're great shooters, reliable, and built to an acceptable standard. Are there better options in the accuracy department, sure (it's not a varmint rifle). Are there better options in the reliability department? That's debatable. But are there better options at that price point? I don't believe there are.
>>
>>30480228
Maybe 10+ years ago. My 6920 has a normal FA BCG.
>>
>>30480276
Same, though there is no hollowed out spot to place an auto sear in the lower. There's a bunch of metal between the spot for the take down pin and the rest of the trigger group.
Guess you'd have to machine it out yourself if you wanted to put one in.

>>
Ok, lets get shit straight here, cause theres a buttload of ignorance and fuckton of sour grapes.

Colt essentially got Armalite's specs and research in the merger. Colt barrels in their weapons are the exact same as the .mil rifles they sell, or used to, since FN has been lining pockets for the past 30 years and underbid them to get their mil contracts. So Colt was forced to hand over their R&D and supersekrit TDP's to FN because lol 'USGovt Property', however FN CANNOT sell any products for profit from knowledge gained from the TDP. (FN commercial =/= FN Mil weapons, no matter how much they sidestep and claim 'b-but its made under the same roof).

Colt Marketing was shit, and Ruger-tier when it came to AWB94, hence the "Big pivot hole" and "Sear block" which drove customers away to other manufacturers who didnt give a flying fuck 'muh feels'. Basically everyone was buying Colt parts, but no completed rifles due to the fuckin stupid Lower design and special FCG and BCG. All the while, Colt didnt give a shit cause lolBigMoney .mil-contracts!

Anyway, Colt is as close to milspec as you can get, besides their stupid proprietary parts that they did away with ~2006. Everyone else is a fuckin pretender. Hell, just go measure your favorite lowers magwell with a dial caliper, I bet you $5 that its not in spec to M16 lower drawings.

>>
>>30484288
Which shooting, The most recent one?

Yes, that's what I was told.

Prior to when I ordered it, Colt basicall did a batch of them and said that was likely their swan sing but people bought them up. They've been out of stock almost everywhere since about last April and when they did hit shelves it was always in very limited quantity.

When I bought it I was told to expect to wait until May or longer but that I was number two on the list.

I called Colt in April and asked them what the deal was and they said they were tooling up to produce more because it was by far their fastest and best selling rifle in years.

They just are unable to keep up with demand as I understand

Might as well ask here, I find both the A1 and the A2 interesting/aesthetically pleasing.

Is there any real difference in function and durability between one and the other if you build it yourself with good parts? I only plan to use the full length AR as a range toy.
>>
>>30478303
Alright OP if you're looking for a excellent Ar-15 their are other and some better options out there.
Some options will be priced better and some will just be overall better like DD or BCM.
But if you are just looking for a solid out of the box go to rifle Colt is an excellent decision.

I challenge you to find a review of a colt AR where the rifle doesn't work 100% out of the box. Colt is a very safe option.

fact of the matter is this:

the only reason to buy a colt is because you're a diehard colt fanboy and think that overpaying for a completely basic rifle is worth it for the rollmark.

you can easily build a rifle to the same spec as a colt and spend less money but coltfags dont want to believe its true
>>
>>30486671
You literally cannot built EXACT to colts specs because it is copyrighted. The Metal, the finish, and the tolerances of milspec can only be had on a colt.

I like their rails, but they get heavy on a full rifle length barrel.
I like those plastic ones but since it's just two slip rings holding it on there it has a little slack that doesn't effect anything besides you can jiggle it a bit and makes a noticeable noise. Handguards like OP's pic is what I'd want on a longer barrel like that if I were just using ironsights but since he's got a flat top receiver he could probably get away with those too if he wanted to co witness irons or have flip ups with some glass.

/k/omrades:

i wanna build my m16a4 from when i was an 11m. i like bcm uppers, but all fixed stock lowers are hard to come by lately. would the following be an absolutely terrible idea?

1) buy a windham complete rifle
2) sell the upper since its shit
3) slap on bcm upper, since im guessing the windham lower should function AOK

TLDR bcm upper windham lower a4 frankengun?
