I have a rock island armory 1911 chambered in 9mm (I'm poor and only want to buy one type of ammo in bulk)
I don't have it with me now but I miss it dearly. Can't wait to buy a colt in 45 when I have the money. So sexy. Maybe my dad will give me his, he has an original GI issue from back in the day.

I'm on e of the lucky ones. My Kimber has had 1000+ rounds through it with one FTE and one FTF. I will say that the KimPro bluing is shit. I have a reverse two-tone and had to reblue my slide after 4 years. Other than that it runs good and was relatively cheep. All said to do it over again I might pull the trigger on a Remington R1
>>
>>30470686
Do they have any feeding issues because of the lower muzzle energy?
>>
>>30471747
They are more sensitive to magazine induced malfunctions.

I've shot a 9mm colt commander that functioned flawlessly, and a high dollar sti double stack 9 that was problematic.

I would personally stick with 45 in a 1911 and get a 9mm that was designed for that round.

why would you carry a compact 9mm 1911? its like you want double the weight with half the capacity of any other 9.
if you just wanted it for fun sure. except compacts suck to shoot compared to fullsize guns
>>
>>30472876
Reliability problems with officer 1911s mostly came from using standard weight ammo without a full understanding of the geometry and physics involved in a 1911's feeding. Old officers were just chopped down 1911s. Bushingless, bull barrels and new recoil springs have improved the reliability significantly, but for maximum performance you want to use lighter bullet weights (like <200gr) because heavy bullets increase the cyclic rate of the much smaller and lighter (compared to Government models) slide, which causes extraction problems and bolt-over-base malfunctions.

guilty pleasure purchase. I have regular 1911s and glocks to carry but Ive always wanted a compact. I want far more impractical things so this doesnt feel too bad

>>30473102
so would 9mm be any better or worse then .45 in a gun like this or does it not matter that much?
>>
>>30473152
9mm is generally not a problem, and there is reduced recoil and an extra bullet or two (depending on magazine). However, a lot of Officer 1911s are oversprung (to combat the aforementioned problems), so contrary to .45 Officers that like lighter than standard loads to run well, 9mm ones actually tend to prefer heavier than standard loads.

I am a poorfag who has never bought a gun, only received hand me downs. I can snatch up a Ruger 1911, the smaller commander sized one. I am in love with the way it looks and that fucking huge bore. Should I pull the trigger, or am I dumb for even considering buying it as my first gun?

It's a good quality. I own one just like it. I would suggest that if you can afford it, or can wait until you can, buy RIA's "Tac" or "Rock" series. They come with better sights and the ability to more easily switch out the sights.

>>
>>30471802

the problem with 9mm 1911s is that they need the round to be a bit more forward wrt the magazine. it's analogous to how .40 1911s need to be loaded to ~1.180" OAL for reliable feeding.

and the 2011 magazine issue has a simple fix: buy MBX magazines.
>>
>>30475022

SVIs are about $3.5-4k these days. since you're not springing for some of the spendier options like a AET Schuemann Island barrel or a metal grip or basically any lightening on the slide (looks like it's just tri topped with a serrated top), it'll be toward the $3k side. you can go on SVI Gunbuilder and price it out.

or you could get a STI and save a few hundred bucks.

Does anyone own a PSA 1911 yet?
>>
So how reliable is an off the shelf 1911 from a company like Dan Wesson?

Say I wanted to go out and buy a Valor or maybe the specialist? Whichever model is basically a valor with a rail. Is it good to go after cleaning and lubricating it?

I know the high end race guns and custom stuff from the likes of Ed Brown, Les Baer, and others have a reputation of being so tight initially you need tools to get the bushing off, there's a recommended "break in" period where I suppose because the parts are so tight you might have some malfunctions and you basically need to gradually wear the parts just enough to where they function flawlessly then?

Note that I don't care about mud tests or shoving twinkies or other food in my gun. I just want to know if I can go buy a decent 1911, clean and lubricate it, and have it go bang and cycle as reliably as a plastic fantastic.

Is this because Colt isn't making as many 1911's or do they just not give good discounts on the wholesale side of things?

I think it's just demand. Colt doesn't make as many series 70 guns compared to series 80. Apparently people really want government reproductions because it's similarly hard to find an AR15A4. Unfortunately, those repros are made in comparatively small numbers. I guess they think that everyone wants a 1911 with modern features.

STD is still current for most things such as the herp and AIDs but they now also use sexually transmitted infections for thing like yeast infection and staff as well as a few other things that used to me stds instead of stis but i do not remember. It is just easier to say std. STI changing its classification to STDs more and more is so we "stop alienating those who are sexually active"

1918 "Black Army" Colt that was declared a "train wreck" by a world-class restorer

The Good:

* All major parts are original M1911 (not A1)

The bad:

* Rebuled
* Not the orginal mag
* some parts so worn I had to swap with USGI

The Ugly:

* U.S. Property scratched out
* Buffed to within an inch of its lfe
* Backup SN stmped under the grips
* Thick-ass reblue over pitting
