Sell me on why I need an M1A, /k/omrades.
Been looking at them and finger-fucking a couple.

You don't. It's not a great gun. If you like it and must have it, go for it. If not then pass for a AR-10,PTR,or FAL/L1A1.
>>30458535
>sell me this pen- i mean M1A
Why? Because if you get one, it's yours.
There are many like it, but this one will be yours. Without you, it is useless. Without it, you are useless.
Besides, firing 7.62x51 "Now all they're out" rounds is much better than firing the tiny 5.56 or the hopeless short ranged 7.62x39.
Be a man, shoot 7.62x51. .223 and .30 "soviet cocksucker" are not welcome here.
(please rate muh stupid)

The M14 and it's civilian counterparts are well suited for shooting either from the shoulder or bench. The controls are very natural, the sights easy to read and adjust. Reliability is good too, although the action is exposed this tends to reduce fte hangups. Typically ftfs are also rare, but like any gun can be caused by poor magazines.
Downsides? Cost. The M14 isn't a very modern or streamlined design. Receivers are expensive.
People also shit talk the design claiming chauchat-tier reliability and accuracy overall. This is a meme. Rifle works and shoots just fine. Try shooting one and you'll see.

It really depends on the model. At this point Norincos offered in Canada are better than Springfields. It's also notably heavier and strangely pricier than the other cold war battle rifles in the US despite originating from the US. Sold mine a long time ago and never regretted it. The EBR stock, while cool weighs a fuck ton.

No can haz PTR or FAL.
/K/anadafag.

Mine weighs 8lb with either fiberglass or wood stocks. If you went EBR no wonder it became heavy. As a design it doesn't lend itself well to modifications or inexpensive manufacturing. Flaws to be sure, but if you want a basic and extremely comfy battle rifle it's still a solid option.
If you want a true sub-moa shooter or tacticool setup then no. It can do it but it's a poor choice.

>Strangely
There are a bunch of rich old fucks who hauled them in Vietnam or wish they had, and it's an upgraded Garand at heart. This means the target audience isn't thinking rationally and can be gouged for more money per gun or magazine. Name recognition is the whole reason SA is SA and not Geneseo Oper8r Armaments, Tools, Swords, Etc.
>>30458838
In that case the Norinco M14s are impossible to beat, just be sure to do a good once over before putting your money down. Fit and finish tends to be poor but they are great shooters once squared away.
>>30458838
You can get a Type 97 and SVT 40s, Nagants and Russian SKS rifles at less than 500 USD each. You have a better trade off than the Eurofags. But get the Norinco M14ery. It's pretty decent.

Literally the only reason to buy an m1a is if you appreciate history. That's it. They offer no advantages over an AR 10 and are considerably more expensive and difficult to supply with parts. Ian has a video about M1A performance in adverse conditions. It fails miserably.

I'd love to mount a POSP on an SVT with a Dragnov/PSL-esqe stock.

>Canada
Alright. This is my family.
The M305 is insanely cheap in comparison to any other M1A on the market.
You need to watch what you buy as Norinco has some absolutely amazing rifles, some not. I bought some magazines for it and had to fix the feed lips a bit because it kept spitting out the last round. It's a great .308 rifle, go for it.
Good alternative if you want something cheap is the SVT40. Don't believe the meme about them destroying themselves, that's only if you have the gas setting wide open.

>norinco better than springfield
>>30461502
I've heard it from for then one gunsmith. Apparently the receiver is better.
>>30458535
The only reason to buy an M1A is if you really want an M1A
If you are asking why you want an M1A you don't really want an M1A
I have no semi-auto rifle.
I need/want a semi....because semi.
M1A's are cool. More accurate then an SKS, .308 is more expensive then 7.62x39, but I suppose that gives you an excuse to reload.
