How were the Chinese able to defeat the US-led forces in Korea? I thought China couldn't win in war.
>>
Soviet shenanigans plus the US firing their competent generals for daring to want to press our nuclear advantage.
>>
>>30457060
Why can't the US beat China without nukes?

Never fight a land war in Asia.
>>

China didn't win the Korean war.
>>
>>30457107
This. The whole 'we only wanted to drive them out of North Korea' was face-saving after the fact.
>>
Korea is pretty much their back yard

They had been fighting for the last decade and a half

Gommies had a pretty smart march by night and camp by day so the west didn't think they had the troops nearby

US/UN didn't actually think they'd actually do what they said they'd do and was caught unprepared for a hojillion chinese to come swarming across the border

China had an enormous logistical advantage from having a land border with the Norks rather than having to ship all their crap all the way across the Pacific. This was before the US had intercontinental jet transport aircraft so everything had to come over on ships. There was no threat of the convoys getting sunk but it was still a slow, limited process. Japan was also still basically ruins at the time, so we didn't have the advantage of the home islands and Okinawa as forward staging bases like we would in a modern conflict.
>>
>>30457049
Basically we had enough forces in place to deal with the tactical situation until chinese were triggered and then zerg rushed a much smaller (and badly overextended) US effort

>macarthur

>faux tough guy attitude plus martyr complex

>flips the fuck out when his overconfidence backfires, blames everyone but himself, tries to bully the president into using nukes just to repair his fragile ego

>shit on and fucked over the Marines at every opportunity.
>>
>>30457049
Well its very complicated, people in power thought we wouldn't need to keep upgrading our shit so we were still using a lot of ww2 era weapons, plus generals getting fired and a zerg rush.
>>
>>30457132
because the US doesn't actually know how to fight a war that they don't have a massive manpower & material advantage

How incompetent can the US be that they are surprised by millions of chinks

And then the treasonous US politicians refused to bomb the bridges the chinks were using

But thats normal for US politicians

Learned about the Korean War from a world-class military historian in college. Some things people missed.

* The whole thing could've been avoided if the Soviet member of the UN Security Council acutually issued a veto vote instead of boycotting.

* Chairman Mao basically told Truman if you guys move too close to our border we're stepping in.

* The CIA, basically, screwed the pooch intelligence-wise

* Mao was actually thrilled to bits to launch human-wave tactics in Best Korea. Why? He had a fuckton of Nationalist POWs and needed a way to get rid of them (and their non-standard U.S. equipment).

* The Chinese troops were basically screwed, they liked the Americans, but it was kinda hard to surrender with the Soviet-style political guys manning machine guns at their backs.

---------------

Here is the redpill: The U.S. acutally "won" the Korean War. Look at South Korea today compared to Best Korea or its other indo-Chinese neighbors.

More to the point, look a Vietnam where the U.S. really did lose.
>>
>>30458020

Your "historian" buddy is a fucking numb skull.
>>
>>30458077
You guys did lose the Vietnam War you stupid chucklefuck.
>>
>>30458126
Technically it was a tactical defeat but we accomplished our goal of stopping the spread of communism. Had we minded our own business, communism would have spread all over southeast asia.

We won, chucklefuck.

>>30457049
There were a lot more of them and they were semi-competently led, at first.

Then we fought the combined might of basically 2 world superpowers and a regional power to a standstill and forced a ceasefire after public disgust at the cost of the war tied our hands from using the nuclear option to outright win.
>>
>>30458383
Dont forget the part where we did a fuckton of downsizing and were barely able to feed our own soldiers there before the invasion.
>>
>>30458383
>Then we fought the combined might of basically 2 world superpowers and a regional power
Now this is shitposting.
>>
>>30457049
because of political pressure we were forced to stop bombing major cities in the north which later on while interviewing north korean general that defected said that if we had kept bombing them they were weeks away from surrendering.
>>
>>30457049
But they didnt defeat the UN fores. They lost like 12x more men making no substansial gains so they fucking lost that.
>>
>>30458413
This is true.

Especially since almost nobody in the area had the ability to produce enough food domestically.
>japs practically glassed SE China and the Koreas during the first bit of WW2
>we glassed the Japs
>norks and SK's fucked eachother over even more
Pretty amazing more people didn't starve.

>>30458451
>implying China wasn't a world superpower in 1950-1953
>implying Russia wasn't a world superpower in 1950-1953
>implying the Norks weren't a regional power in 1950
>inb4 "but we didn't fight the Russians!" We fought their gear and they had strategic advisors in both NK and China. Sort of like how the US had advisors in S. Vietnam when they and the Frogs were getting their shit kicked in.
>>
>>30458158
I dont know why is it so hard to admit defeat in Vietnam? Every great empire lost at least once, The US isnt so different. I mean one loss doesnt invalidate the sheer amount of victories at every other time
>>
>>30458479
Because when you're talking wars you have to consider both the military and the political side of it.
We won, militarily. We forced a treaty that was heavily in our/S.Viet's favor and left as victors.

The politicians fucked up every step of the way though, and it wasn't really a surprise (or at least shouldn't have been) that they NVA didn't honor the treaty they were both lawfully and dutifully bound to abide. Then the politicians fucked up AGAIN by not going back to stomp on them some more.

So...Won militarily, lost HARD politically. Neither a total win nor a total defeat, my best analogy would be having a group of high-schoolers play a team sport against a pro team, but the pro team gets bored and leaves halfway through the game so the HS kids "continue" the game and say they won.
>>
>>30458520
>We forced a treaty that was heavily in our/S.Viet's favor and left as victors.
A treaty that everyone knew was worth less than the piece of paper it was written on. Wow, such great victory.
>>
>>30458471
>implying China wasn't a world superpower in 1950-1953
No, they absolutely fucking weren't. What are you on?
>>
china had immense numbers just like they do now, they threw bodies at U.S. until they were forced back, plus it was in the north,s territory that they knew better
>>
>>30458613
How did the Chinese know the territory they'd never been on better than the US troops, who had been there for a year?
>>
>>30457049
>objective: protect south korea
>protected south korea
>somehow this is considered losing.
>>
>>30459488
there was no south Korea faggot. There was ONLY Korea and a small communist paty.

>Went to protect Korea
>fucked up so hard theres now two Koreas
>>
>>30457049
>needed the Soviet Air Force to even have a chance at harassing US air
>still had to do all major movements at night whenever possible
>more KIA than US wounded, KIA, MIA and POW combined
>more wounded than total US troops committed over the entire war
and they still didn't take South Korea. Sounds like winning to me.
>>
>>30459570
South Korea was established in 1948. North Korea at the same time. Korean war was 1950.

The fuck are you smoking?
>>
>>30457049
Because Truman was butthurt that Big Mac had the right idea AND was more popular with the people.
>>
>>30459570
Anon are you retarded? Both Koreas were victory prizes for US and USSR in '48.
>>
>>30457049
Hey faggot I know men walking after that war.
China didn't fucking win. Vietnam won public opinion. If you want more bullets going that way just say so.
>>
>>30460548

MacArthur was a fucking idiot who should have been sacked by and replaced with someone less useless, or better yet, kicked upstairs to a desk job in Washington.

The only reason he survived Luzon was because he knew Roosevelt personally.
>>
>>30457049
China didn't defeat jack squat. They were eventually rebuffed.
>>
>>30457049
Bruh, havent you seen Ip Man, the ending clearly states that China went on to defeat Japan in WWII.

So there you have it, China won a war fair and square, with no help from any other country. They beat Japan, Japan fell by their own hand and surrendered to China. Japan surrendered to China, nobody else, just China. They won the war.
>>
>>30461142
Did they really run with that for a closing credit? Hory sheet.
