I am interested in the Army 25b (Information Technology Specialist). What ASVAB score do I need to be eligible for it. Also is the Army more promising to give me the MOS I want vs the Airforce? Army would work better since there are no Airforce recruiters near me.

I wouldn't dream too much on a particular MOS, though. It all depends on the demand. Just don't pick something that you'll hate, even if it has a hefty bonus (hello tax). Study for the ASVAB to ace it and focus on your weakest areas

25B is always in demand.

For an IT job I'd recommend going Air Force over Army. There's absolutely no reason to go Army/Marines over Air Force and Navy unless its a job unique to the former (combat MOS's).

In the Air Force your living standards are lightyears better, rooms are larger and every single one I've been is is massive and has a full kitchen/bathroom/washer and dryer. Dining facility is always better. Better opportunities for civvy certs and schooling. Dodge the random Army hooah life.

I could go on forever.

>>
>>30462669
No, you have a few smart people who join the infantry all the time. It's one of the top pics for cadets because it's easier to get promoted.

Right now though it's kinda dumb to join the infantry because of the military cutbacks and not having a big war currently but it will probably heat up in a few years
>>
>>30462678

Joined Marines with a 96 asvab and 124 GT in 2006. I went Infantry.

I was guaranteed to deploy then though. No regrets. Iraq/Afghanistan deployments, got some action. So no, your desire is understandable.

However, circumstances are different. You might just train or go on a MEU or two. But if you like hiking, running, discipline, training etc.

I graduate next semester on GI Bill, you don't need to go pog for muh job skills. That said, some do get good skills and make more than I do. YOLO buddy.

>>
>>30462780
Oh I didn't see the part where you said Marine I was just going off of how it is in the Army.

The points to get e5 in the Army for infantry is always low as fuck because a lot get out fast since they only have 3 year initial contracts or they just get killed and open up slots for younger soldiers to take them. I guess it's probably different in the marines since pretty much everyone joins to be infantry because it's dumb to join the marines for any other reason
>>
>>30462758
No, I had college loans when I joined and nothing happened since mine were deferred. If they're collecting them and you aren't paying that's where you can get fucked though

>>30462780
Im 2006 guy. I was 22 when I joined. You need to get that shit out your head. I'm 29 now, you're still a young buck.

You'll get called grandpa in boot camp and take orders from guys a few years younger in the fleet. If you go infantry better grow thick skin.
>>
>>30462830
Oh it's not a problem believe me, I just thought it was funny how being around the other guys I felt old, yet as you (correctly) pointed out I'm still very young and inexperienced compared to the majority of people. How hard is it to get into Combat Engineer, 12B (or 21B, whatever the fuck they call it now)? What ASVAB score do I need?

I heard you need a 87, but I saw some guy that got a 36 and still got the option to go 12B, but that was some years ago.

>>30463564
You need an 87 in the combat score for the ASVAB, they get that by combining two categories of the test.

I'm going to talk to a recruiter soon and I've read up on becoming a 68W-W1/SOCM. I was told to get 68W in my contract then ask for an Option 40 to get a reservation for Airborne/RASP. Is that what I have to do? Alternatively, I read that I could also get an Option 4 and either fill out a form in AIT for RASP or volunteer during Airborne School. Got a 96 on the asvab with a gt of 130, perfectly clean legal and medical records (i.e. none) reasonably fit, and none of my family has ever had legal issues. i wanted infantry, but knowing now about the options of 18x or 11b op40 i want to pursue one of those two. personally, i think id like to give SF a shot. Recruiter has an available contract for me. If i take it, and make it into SF selection, what kind of testing do they do? will they really give you a polygraph lie test? if so what questons would they ask? And for someone who wants to be a real operator would 18x be better than 11b op40?
>>
>>30465378
Are you asking by what criteria are people promoted? Just google the cutoff scores for the Army. If it's anything like the Marines it's based on time in service, time in your current rank, PT scores, and some other stuff. In the Army it's very possible to make E4 or even E5 within your 4 years
>>
>>30465378
You get a low rank based on contract length once you finish training.

Then you go up the "responsibility-less faggot" tree just by serving and not being a royal fuckup until you hit E-4. If you want to go above that, you'll need training you can sign up for.
>>
>>30465487
Just go cavalry scout, nigger.

Better than 11b in every way.
>>
>>30465378
E1 - E4 is automatic as long as you don't fuck up, you get E4 in about two years.

To get to E5 you have to take a dumb online training course, go to an easy vacation class from your job for a month, then stand in front of your sergeant major and lie about your goals and why you want to be promoted. Then once you get enough points through PT, weapons, awards, and education you can get promoted.

E6 it's the same shit pretty much but a little harder.

E7 - E9 you make up a packet to make yourself look good then the pentagon picks randomly on who to promote

I'm 22 and I have a college degree (history, lel). I want to join the Army and go for a career, 20+ years. Does anyone have any advice for this goal? Officer or Enlisted? Recommended MOS'? I'd prefer something in Intelligence.
>>
>>30465925
I'm glad you are asking. Officer life is cushy but if you really want the military experience, you should go enlisted. You can pick up E4 with a degree. Go all the way. Be Airborne Infantry. Ranger, if you're up to it. I did it. I have a coin and a brick at the NRMF. Yeah, big deal but it was pretty cool. I even got a CIB and got shot at and returned fire.
>>
>>30465919
Nah, it's something called SSD1. It's some stupid bullshit class that ask you basic stuff that you should remember from basic and general army history that's mandatory to make 5.

Then they have SSD2, 3, and 4 after that
>>
>>30465730
6 months is typical. But as long as you're not a dipshit to your recruiter I've heard of poolees getting their recruiter to bump up their ship date several months early.
>>
>>30465991

>>
>>30466025

>CSM: Why don't you have a tab yet?
>Me: Some bullshit excuse
>CSM: When are you getting a tab?
>Me: Another bullshit excuse
>CSM: Ranger School when?
>Me: Running out of excuses by now
>CSM: Don't you want to be a Ranger?
>Me: As soon as my packet is approved
>CSM: Good.

That was my first promo board

How many days, weeks, or months does it usually take to get sent to take the ASVAB after telling the recruiter you want to take it? I want to tell a recruiter I want to take the ASVAB on the 15th of this month but I'll be out of state for 2 weeks in August 3rd. I'm trying to figure out if I should wait until I come back to start the enlistment process.

>>

two part question.
I was diagnosed with cyanosis (low oxygen in the blood) will i be able to get into any branch?
My recruiter (coast) says that shouldnt be a problem because she can't find anything on it anywhere, but will meps give me a automatic no?

Second question; Are there any PMCs that will train or hire, in the same way that the military does or do they all hire only people with experience? (presumably experience from the military)
>>
>>30466091
Lame. Ranger school is just a school. You are not a ranger if you graduate ranger school. As an Infantry NCO, you should have out your CSM in the elevated front leaning rest position.
>>
>>30466741
Not sure on the first one, I'm sure Google will help you out there.

Second one, I highly doubt it. The market is so full of combat veterans and SOF veterans I think it'd be pretty unlikely for a normal civilian to get a good gig with them
>>
>>30466782
I could never understand the raging hard on the higher ups in infantry units would get for someone that has a tab

>>30466502
Depends on whether or not you need some additional information or doctors stuff along those lines.

I took me around three or four days (cannot remember exactly).

>third or fourth day went up to MEPS.

It might take longer or shorter for you.

>>
>>30467877
My advice, don't be a fucking pussy and listen to the Drill Sgt word for word. It's not hard to rappel and it's fun as fuck. Don't grip the rope with the top hand, only use the bottom hand which controls your movement. Jump fucking hard, let the bottom hand loose, grip again after a sec or two of falling, and rinse and repeat.

Hard to fucking explain just do it.

Honestly, the cargo net on victory tower is worse than the rappel is you're scared of heights.

Just wake up that morning knowing it's going to be a shitty day, but it'll be over before noon and you can go on with your life. A lot of the military is like that.

I spent a year in the 82nd. got 20 jumps. Nothing special. When I entered the 75th Ranger Regiment, I got my first helo jump and my first helo rapel. The jump was a six second count instead of a four second. The rapel was nervously stirring. But afterwards, rappelling out of a helicopter became usual and natural. We did it a lot, along with fast roping.

I never fast roped or rappelled in combat but I did parachute into combat. I have an Arrowhead on my AFEM and a Bronze Star on my wings.

Corpsman, but keep in mind all you get is an EMT cert from it.

You also are most likely gonna work in a hospital.

I'm an army LPN and work with bunch of corpsmen. We use then like super CNA's here. That is, they mostly move patients around, wipe butts, hang saline, and get vital signs. After a while they all get sick of it. It's hard work and the nurses constantly will order you around. Not necessarily in a mean way.

With training, hospital corpsmen can do a little more. Some can sit on telemetry, and a few can pass meds. I don't let them pass meds on my patients ofc, because they have no idea what half of them are for. Some move on to leadership positions in more admin type rolls.

>>

>>
>>30471298
If you enlist the army out's you in a barracks. You can usually live off post while being sure to just keep the barracks room clean, but he army won't give you like extra money for the apartment. Keep in mind you make shit-nothing.

Most military jobs are typical 9-5 types. Maybe 5-4, I guess. I'm the nurse from before. We work the usual 12 hour shifts.

So if you have a car and if the GF lives close it's doable, ya. You might get deployed or something but what evs.

Th army pays you if you get married. They'll give you $1000 + a month just to buy a house or apartment or drugs with. So many soldiers just get married so they don't have to live on post.
>>
>>30471661
Once he makes E4 and isn't a shitbag he could possibly get BAH to live off post
>>
>>30471704
The Army doesn't do that for regular duty stations, even E5s who stay out of trouble and have been in for 10 years are forced in the barracks because anyone who's E6 and below and single have to stay there
>>
>>30465224
Dude. Tanks were hardly used even during invasion and the surge. They take forever to get permission to go in, and when they do they don't do tank stuff. They blow up walls and IEDs for route clearance.

By the time they even get there the patrolling dudes have already said fuck it and went through with their own vehicles or not.

It isn't fluid like you think it is. If they aren't directly attached locally, theres always massive delays and miscommunication. Plus, most tankers deployed WITHOUT their tanks, like artillery dudes do.

Now yeah, if world war 3 broke out you may get to ride in a tank for a bit. But then indirect and other shit will blow you the fuck up.
>>
>>30471732
I lived off post and got BAH as an E4 with some other buddies of mine. This was 2007 though, so maybe they're strict now
>>
>>30471791
They are, the Army is cheap as shit now. The only way you're living off post at a regular duty station as an E5 and below is if you get divorced but you signed a lease for an apartment or a house but then you have to move back into the barracks as soon as it ends
>>
>>30471817
I remember E6 types having to move into the barracks after getting DUIs or some junk. Talk about miserable dudes
>>
>>30471704
Not the case anymore. Probably varies, but never heard of it unless the post happens to have no housing.
>>
>>30471838
DUI is an automatic kick out now pretty much unless if you're a field grade with how much the army wants to downsize
>>

>>
>>30472147
Asking doesn't do shit if the unit you go to after AIT isn't on a deployment cycle. 25c is becoming a useless MOS now that they just pull surplus soldiers to do your job so you're kinda fucked.

You will most likely just work in S6 and do what 25b's do
>>
I'm enlisting in the Army soon, and plan on shooting for SF after serving a few years. If I get a contract to serve as a combat engineer, then when/if I get to SF training will that increase the chances they make me a SF Engineer Sergeant? Because I want to become a Weapons Sergeant. I'd be happy with either, just becoming SF would be fucking amazing, but if being a combat engineer until then will practically guarantee I won't become a SF Weapons Sergeant, I may get a contract for another MOS until then.
>>
>>30472515
It depends on a few things:

1. Current need for the groups at that exact time.
2. Your scores, personality, etc. in testing.
3. Your preference list
4. Experience, job skills, etc.

You can definitely put 18B at the top and can get it. But as always theres no guarantee.

Any particular reason you want to do 12B? I can give some insight perhaps. I'm an 11B
>>
>>30472608
I know there's no guarantee I'll get 18B, but I do want a shot. I just wanted to make sure by going combat engineer it'd be a virtual assurance I don't even get the chance at 18B.

I want a foot combat role, but didn't want to just be a standard infantryman. Wanted another skill set other than shooting and tactics. Combat engineer seemed cool, medic may be cool to, but I'd love to get that sapper tab.
>>
>>30472608
>>30472648
I don't know, I may go 11B. The whole reason I'm enlisting is my love of guns and tactics and shit. Maybe I should stick with that.
>>
>>30472648
Don't go medic if you want to be a shooter. 12B do a similar role, the reality though is that they don't have the same opportunities and almost never do a shooting role in events because a brigade spends more money on infantry.

For livefire events in an airborne brigade you will clear obstacles and do a small local support by fire. Then you watch the infantry go in and do the job.

I undeniably respect the sappers, but the reality is unless WW3 breaks out they'll be getting the shit end of the stick in training.

Tell me what you want to do exactly and I'll see what insight I have. Signing your soul away to the Army isn't a time to be modest.
>>
>>30472948
Similar role to 11B*

18D will be shooters. 68W in ranger batt get some shooting possibilities (very rare). So to reiterate. If you wanna shoot, don't do 68W.

Also you can waiver (fairly easily) for sapper school as infantry. Pretty much the only dudes who get it are 12 and 11 series.
>>
>>30472976
From what I've heard, medics in Batt, while usually attached to the Plt Sgt's hip, get some kill time. Some ranger said he knew of a medic who had double digit kills.

But if you want to shoot, medic isn't for you. Your mission is aid and care. That should always be your first priority interest.

Guys I have a question.

My friend is stationed in Europe(Air Force).

He is here for the week and he was telling me how no one has visited him, not even his family, in the 2 years he's been there. He has no friends out there(His coworkers are assholes) and he is leaving there in a year.

I feel really fucking bad, so I['m gonna go visit him. Only problem is I'm a broke college student.

Is there any way he can get me a discount ticket at all? I hate being a fucking Jew, but I really am broke, and I will save up as much I can, but I want to leave within 3 months, so I need to get a flight fast.
>>

>>
>>30474159
Visiting him at a military base in europe just sounds weird. Shouldn't he be able to scrape up some vacation himself? They get 30 days per year which is better than you get in the private sector. If he's been there for 2 years he has to have some vacation days by now.
>>
Didn't get an answer from the last thread, so asking again:

I'm flirting with the idea of becoming an Air Force TACP.

Are there many opportunities for enlistment into a 1C4X1 role? What's the likelihood of actually getting a liaison position with the Army or some Special Ops? Am I misunderstanding anything?

Thanks in advance guys.

Army Aviation crewmen for rotary wing aircraft (helicopters) fall under the 15 category MOS's, so whatever Mechanic you become for whichever MOS specific helicopter is what you'll be a crew of, be in mind most of what new guys do is just repair the helo, Crew chiefs (which you can be promoted to) have responsibility as door gunner and the like.

>>30474417
It is becoming less popular. But still a good job. Be in great shape, hike a lot, know how to use weapons and radios. Many are retooling for natural disaster response now.
