It's stupid, if you target the same area, death is as quick with one as it is with the other.
A bullet to the head can kills you in less than a second, just as a knife wound to the subclavian artery.
What patters anyway is precision, one isn't inherently faster to kill than the other.

Switchblades are dumb. They have no utilitarian features and are only good for stabbing and scaring people. Knives as a self defence tool are also pretty terrible since you literally have to attempt a murder if you are going to defence yourself with one.

Seriously? It's not like you don't have to be willing to kill someone if you defend yourself with a gun, right?
Also switchblades have great utility value. Especially OTF switchblades, they significantly reduce the chance of cutting yourself when using the knife. And double actions are very useful since you can easily open and close a knife safely when your other hand is occupied.

Defending yourself with a CCW is more likely to be passed off as a justifiable homicide. Carrying a knife with an intention to use it for self-defence could be even seen as pre-meditated murder.

This case from 1986 was the only one I could find where someone used their knife to kill an attacker and got away with it.
And sure, there are plenty of quality switchblades around. Pic related are still shit. The long blade can't take a lot of abuse and makes it unwieldy for opening boxes etc

Get some pepper spray. Not because it's non lethal, but because it's more likely that you'll come out of the other end of a defensive scenario okay with spray than with your shitty letter opener.

I think you should get pepper spray and a more innocuous knife. Switchblades are novelty items at this point, thumb studs and flippers and wavelike features mean that pretty much everything opens quickly now.
