Yes and no. It's HEAVY as fuck even for a .30 battle rifle.
That being said I like .30-06 more than .308 if we're talking ALL application types such as hunting and personal defense if you're in an area with large game/predators as heavy .30-06 rounds can have an advantage over .308 and you can load a heavier bullet in .30-06 if necessary.
How many people require a single firearm to function as both a big game (for North America) hunting rifle and a battle rifle though? I would guess not many. And if you have money to buy an HCAR you probably have multiple rifles anyways.
Is it practical? Sure but it's a little heavy. Still works good though. Is it the best option? Nope.
The answer would be yes if the mags were cheaper and it was designed from the ground up as a 3006 battle rifle.

There are a shit ton of flavors of elite operator 308s. The HCAR does give the user 3006 with high cap magazine and automatic fire. I've held one, worked the action and trigger etc. It is pretty fucking awesome. It is not a replacement for the ar-15 or the ar-10/FAL.

In terms of practical applications, it's on par with most battle rifles.
In terms of "is this something I want to shoot often". No.
Two things need to pass. One: Is it reliable enough for me to use it innawoods. Two: Does it have a nice aftermarket or supply of parts I can use to replace broken parts if I happen to break them, alongside easy access to the ammo it requires.
