Hey /k/ I got a new gun the other day. I picked up a Taurus Tracker in .44 with the gloss black finish.

I got it as an open carry cougar/moose/bear gun for when I'm out hiking.

It needs some new grips though as the factory ones suck. I know I want some wood grips, but I don't know exactly which type to get. Should I go with square butt or round butt? Checkered or smooth? Finger grooves or without? Gloss or matte finish?

Thanks for the input guys!

This is the first contender and currently my favorite.

It is a round butt grip for a more modern profile similar to the factory grip. It has both finger grooves and checkering for a real positive hold, as well as a gloss finish. I wonder how the gloss finish will look on the gloss revolver?

This is the same grip, except with a matte finish. I know that over time matte finishes eventually polish to gloss, but that takes a while generally. Would the pistol look better with a little contrast in the finish? Gloss frame, barrel, and cylinder, but matte grip?

This grip is also a round butt, however it has no checkering and no finger grooves. It does have a gloss finish though. Thoughts?

This grip has a square butt so will have a more traditional profile. Square butts are more common on large magnum revolvers, and are historically the most popular. The grip also has finger grooves and checkering, with a matte finish.

This grip also has a square butt, with finger grooves and checkering, but it has a gloss finish and the checkering does not extend all the way to the base of the grip.

The gloss helps darken the tone of the wood. I think that a darker grip will look better with my revolver since it is black.

I'd do this one personally, I like the full lower profile. I'm one of the other guys in boulder; I shoot a couple miles north of where you do.

How's the recoil on the 44mag? I had a 357 for a while but it felt like 9mm at most to me. Considering 460V or 500SW

This is another grip that I'm also seriously considering. It is a round butt, and it does have finger grooves, but it has no checkering. The finish is glossy.

Maybe the lack of checkering will keep the grip cleaner?

The full lower profile certainly has a more "badass" look to it.

Hey there CO Bro! I ran into a moose up past Gold Hill a few weeks back. It was about 25 FEET away and all I had on me was 6 rounds of 9mm in my Kahr CM9. That won't happen again.

Just a heads up I'm pretty sure that the forest service closed all of Magnolia road to shooting recently. I ran into a sheriff who explained that the locals were complaining incessantly.

The recoil is actually quite manageable. I'm very pleased with how it shoots but bear in mind the Tracker has porting on at the muzzle. It kicks less than a Ruger Redhawk in .44 that I fired.

If I had the money I would have gone with a S&W.

Here is another grip, and it is one of the most plain. It has a roundish butt, with no checkering or finger grooves, and a natural matte finish. The profile is similar to a Miculek grip.

Hit up the CO email chain, I'll show you where I go. It's still okay to shoot here for now at least.

All of the stock photos of the possible grips are with a silver revolver with a matte finish. Mine is black with a gloss so please consider that!

I'm really agonizing over this because these wood grips are shipped from Thailand and take 6 weeks to arrive.

There aren't many options for grips for the tracker, except the black rubber one by Hogue. I'm pretty set on wood though. Fuddlore goes that wood on guns tends to appease normies and this gun will be open carried a bit.

Thanks man will do.

Wood is for looks, rubber is for use. If you shoot hot loads out of it you probably won't like wood much. I'm fact the only the I like about Taurus is their revolver grips. The actual gun is crafted by naked flip flop wearing mud covered Brazilian apes

I won't be running the pistol much, it really is just for hiking and carrying.

I got the revolver used. Anything to look out for in particular?
>>
Forcing cone damage, top strap damage, make sure the cylinder locks in place a little wobble is normal, make sure a firing pin is potruding when trigger is held down, make sure a credit card can't fit between the forcing cone and cylinder, barrel crown damage, barrel pitting/rifling (just make sure the bore is bright and grooves look uniform) people will oil a barrel to make it look unpitted.
>>
How's the timing on it? Firing pin strikes in center of primer? Looks pretty nice. If it is good condition and you don't cowboy the yoke/crane, I'd imagine it'll work nicely.
