So I'm 19 years old and about to be kicked out of my family's home because I occasionally smoked marijuana with friends after working full time every single day of the week. I always joked about joining the military but now it seems I may have to, I can't afford an apartment. My father was a marine, but someone suggested Navy since I was planning on majoring in Computer Science in college, but I only have a year of community college under my belt. I'm not incredibly in shape, but I'm in no way out of shape. I just want to do something; fly, shoot, fix, I don't care, but I don't know what my options even are.

The real thing not that easily, but the practice version very. I took mine within 5 minutes the first time i walked through the door. you can go to the office and just say im interested in so and so jobs can i take the practice to see where i stand and there you go.

Anyone have any experience with Coast Guard? I think being in some kind of search and rescue dive would be pretty cool. If not maybe something mechanical would be a possibility if I did good on the ASVAB.

It is the ultimate double edged sword. The job itself and the working conditions are horrendous. The upside is the money and advancement rate. Lots of special pays, huge re-enlistement bonuses plus lightning fast advancement cause most of them get out to work in the civilian sector. But again the job is horrible and so are the conditions. Most would say it isnt worth it. A far better alternative imo is CTN.

And CTN is the hardest/best intel rate in the whole military from what i understand. Its something along the lines of hacking foreign data networks. Going to Fort Sill in 2 weeks for basic training.
How fucked am I, weather wise, keeping in mind I come from the California Bay Area and have lived there with godtier weather my entire life? I'm pretty worried about heat injuries, since my only experience with high heat has been trips to central america when I was younger, but I never did any physical stuff there besides walk around sweating my ass off.

I commissioned as a 68W and leave for basic in a couple of weeks. Super hyped. As 68W's, we have quite a bit of flexibility. We can travel up the pipeline to become a Ranger or Green Beret Medic. We can be attached to all sorts of units such as regular infantry, recon elements, sniper sections, mechanized infantry, etc.

If you want to enlist as a Navy Corpsman, the most important thing you have to know is that you are not granted the same type of flexibility. They can place you in a hospital somewhere in Korea, or a battleship somewhere off the coast of Japan, they can make sure you never see combat, which is what I'm assuming you'd like to participate in. In the Army, I've heard that you rotate on and off from greenside and the base with other medics. And you don't have to deal with those nasty jarheads.

So my current goal is to spend time time getting in shape, then get an 18x contract and enlist to become SF. I've been at it for a few months, and it's going great, I expect to be ready around the beginning of 2017.
But I'm so fucking tired of working retail, and I just want to enlist. Is it possible to get a contract that guarantees me a shot at the Special Forces Qualification Course in, say, a years time? If I can get that, I will HAPPILY enlist tomorrow and serve as a combat engineer or just plain infantry or something, but I REALLY want to at least try going SF, and if I can't get that guarantee I think it's best to just wait until I'm ready.

He also reccomended being able to do 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, and run 2 miles in 15 minutes. I'm at about 25 push ups, 30 sit ups, and I forgot my last 2 mile time.

Ask the person managing your application for an answer and if you can't get one from him, ask for a phone number for someone who can.

Bro thats a lot of options and all are so different. You need to narrow down your options. I never was subs but all ive heard is how tough they are. Theres pretty much no reason to be on one cause they suck ass pretty hard. People on them take pride in how shitty they are but it just isnt worth it. You do get sub pay but imo it aint worth it to be miserable every day. I never served with marines so i have no idea what its like but everyone here says marines is easily the worst branch of the 5 so id avoid it. I will say both Corpsman and CTN are both excellent rates. If you want to know more about those 2 i can share some links.

also, the craziest shit i saw someone try to get away with was when i was in basic. there was this thirty five year old private that was always getting special attention from one of the drills, like above and beyond what anyone else ever got, even the fuckups. turns out he was an old kosovo vet, tabbed ranger who'd gotten kicked out for kicking the shit out of an officer. he enlisted under a false name and probably would have gotten away with it, but it turns out that one drill was someone from an old unit of his. the drill was a black guy and apparently he'd been called a nigger and remembered that shit.

one week before basic we were done, ssg. false enlistment was walking around in his fucking tan beret, striped up and everything in full uniform. they sent his ass to the brig.

I am very interested in joining Delta Unit. I wont lie, I first heard about them from a vidja, but since then ive done a shit ton of reading about the actual missions and operations of Delta, written by actual former Delta, and I'm really interested in joining. I've already spoken to my recruiter about about Rangers, because I know thats where they select from. Heres my question, what kind of physical requirements do I need to have? I know all about the inherent things (eye vision quality, height, weight, that sort of thing) I mean stuff like how fast I can run, how many push ups/sit ups i can do, that sort of thing. Google doesnt offer any sort of concrete requirements.

Lots, i did 2 deployements in my 4 years. Lived in san diego which was awesome, did a fleet week in San fran, been to hawaii like 4 times same for guam, japan both yoko and sasebo. Was in yoyko for 3 months actually which was probably the best 3 months of my life. Been to singpore twice for a month, honk kong, brunai which was as shitty as it sounds. Phillipines twice in 2 places, Subic bay and manilla which was like the wild wild west. And some others.

standing out physically is easy. the army is chock full of PT studs, ranger regiment especially. delta wants you to be an olympic-level athlete AND they wnat you to have presidential-level leadership qualities, PhD level intelligence, and probably most importantly, unerring drive in the face of anything you have or will ever face. you also need to be one of those lucky people who are able to take the worst combat can throw at you and not break down, and that's something you won't know until you've experienced it.
