What are some books I can learn tactics from? Specifically small unit, but tactics of any scale or interesting. I know the US military has declassified all of their field manuals, are they good for that?

No. The US military doesn't even use those anymore. S'why they declassified them.

Haven't finished it yet but I've heard this is good. Not a lot out there for small units in a non-military context.

I didn't think ANY existed. I was looking for military context, but that does sound interesting.

This is the guy's site. His blog has a lot of info. 2nd edition of the book has a lot the posts in it.
What I've read of the books covers a lot more than just tactics since it's a manual, but it covers tactics for civilians in a WROL situation.
FM 7-70 Light Infantry Platoon/Squad. Plenty of still-relevant tactics. Covers everything from Combat Prep, Movement, Patrolling, Offense, Defensive/Retrograde Ops, and Combat Support. Got it for $7 at a local milsurp store. Would love to get in the woods with some friends and practice some time.
This book is great real life examples and strategies.

Victoria: A Novel of Fourth Generation Warfare
H. John Poole has a lot of stuff stressing small independent units using deception, camouflage and infiltration tactics.
