I know :(

That BM monochrome was the first "nice" knife I ever bought about 5 or so years ago, when BM still had their red class. I wanted full plain edge, but that was all they had in stock at my retailer at the time. Now they are discontinued, and hard to find without combo edge; although they do re-brand the design under HK but I don't think the steel is the same N690.
>>
Alright guys what's the best self defense knife? It can be either folding or fixed but I would prefer something I don't have to wear a huge sheath on
>>
>>30435576

Yeah, about 50. Im liking the look of the g739, but I haven't messed around with an axis lock and ganzo before. the price is pretty low as well, so thats a plus. What is it with anons claiming meme on ganzo?

>>
>>30436192
this is the anon that posted the SOG, which he's looking to replace and he said he wants a 4 way clip with something similar to the tenacious. ganzo seems like a downgrade or lateral movement.

>>
yo SOG anon, i gotchya covered. here's your replacement, $40 at bladehq
>>
>>30436237

>>
>>30436238
>>30436210
The style of the ganzo is something I like, but I wouldn't mind trying a tenacious either, im just looking for more options. Knives that are long and skinny like the byrd mentioned in an image above isn't really my style, and something too short wouldn't do either, so im looking for something in-between.

They just dove right into the $100+ tacticool/weird market

At least the marksmen and Selkirk look alright

I think after determining the designs of many of the suggestions you anons gave me, and determining what I will be doing with it, I have decided to push on with getting the tenacious to try something different.

Well yeah, SOG quality took a nosedive after SOGzilla-gate.

>>30439095
>he carries tip down
Tip down works better in some instances. For example, tip down puts your finger closer the flipper on a flipper knife. On something like the Cold Steel Espada, aka a folding compensator, tip up carry would put your thumb too far away from the opening stud (assuming you're not waving it open).

>>30439132
>Friendly reminder that tanto is superior for piercing
"Stacking them up! When tested against a double-edged dagger and a traditional Japanese aikuchi, the Americanized tanto had the shallowest penetration. Its real advantage is the strength of its point, not its penetration, as many believe."

No just save your money bros. One of my retarded high school coworkers has one and it's turned to shit within just a few weeks of use. Dirt and dust really fucks up the mechanism very quickly and it feels incredibly dry and laborious to deploy the blade. Also, the blade bends very easily and has become incredibly dull. It may just be because my friend is shit at taking care of knives but it's likely just a poor knife.

How the fuck do you have to turn the knife around? You just draw and it's in your hand
>>
>>30440829
Hold a folder tip up, pinch it with your 2 first fingers and pretend you're lifting it out of your pocket. You may notice the deployment device is now on the opposite side of the knife to the one you are holding. Repeat the same process as if it was tip down.

If you reach into your pocket and grasp the knife whole then tip up is clearly the choice but if you grab the knife with 2 fingers tip down is significantly faster and more natural.
>>
>>30440851
>If you draw the knife like you're supposed to then it's clearly the better choice
>But if you don't then tip down is better

Ok
>>
>>30440857
Why would I want to stick my whole hand in my pocket to retrieve something which has a clip negating the need for this?

If I wanted to reach in and grab the knife I'd delete the clip...
>>
>>30440857
No. If your knife is only the length of your thumb then yeah it doesn't matter.

Otherwise it's like he said. Tip down, no matter the length of the grip, the knife naturally falls into your palm with your thumb right at the stud ready to open.

With tip up, where the pocket clip is at the butt end of the knife, you might have to choke up on the knife to get your thumb in position after pulling it from your pocket. Not a huge deal, but it is less natural. The only reason to choose tip up over tip down is if the knife has a wave feature.

Really I wish knife manufacturers would just drill 4 sets of holes as standard so the user can position the clip however they like.
>>
>>30440862
Quit carryin knives the size of your dick so you don't have to look around for them. And deep carry clips are gay as fuck.

>>30440875
except with tip down you have less of a purchase on the knife. Even with just a thumb disk I can draw and deploy the knife effortlessly, and a lot easier than if it's tip down. Only reason to carry that way is maybe to spydie drop, or if the detent's fucky and to prevent cutting yourself. Otherwise, with tip up, it's just pulling the knife out and you're ready to go, just like drawing a fixed blade. Hardly have to choke up on it instead of how you would tip down

I agree with the last bit tho. People bitch and moan about the holes, but I feel for lefties and don't like being told how to carry
>>
>>30440986
>so you don't have to look around for them
Pocket clip, they're magical.

You can get upset all you want but if you pinch a knife out of your pocket, tip down is more natural.
>just like drawing a fixed blade
It's nothing like drawing a fixed blade though, any decent fixed blade sheath will put the handle squarely in your palm for draw.
To put my hand squarely onto a folder I have to dig into my pocket which is usually full of other shit too.
>>
>>30440998
I carry big knives, and have pockets full of shit. Chapstick, lighter, keys and a leatherman on my watch pocket. Still have no difficulty pulling out a knife, and I never have to dig around. Like I said, maybe ditch the baby shit and you'll get it right.

>Hardly have to choke up on it instead of how you would tip down

Huh. Are you sure we're talking about the same thing?

Top one is an example of tip down. With this knife the hinge is exposed from pocket while carrying, and your thumb will be right next to the opening mechanism as you pull it from your pocket.

Bottom one is example of tip up. With this one the tip end is exposed when pocketed, and your thumb will be closer to the butt end of the knife as you pull it from pocket. On larger knives unless you can whip it open you'll need to choke up to reach the thumb stud / hole.

If you've got a better method for opening tip-up knives, I'd like to hear, cause this is the reason I like tip down if I have the option.
>>
>>30441006
Nobody except you mentioned difficulty retrieving a knife or having to dig for one, my point was and still is, greentext for clarity and avoiding sidelining
>If you pinch a knife out of your pocket with thumb and forefinger - which prevents you needing to put your hand into your pocket - then tip down carry puts deployment right where your thumb/forefinger are and the spine of the knife in your palm.

Anywhere I need to break it down further for you?

Last pic of torture for now, can't waste it all on a dead thread.
Maybe we should do an occasional microtech general?
So this knife did eventually break, but Tony threw it until it did. It broke near the plunge lock which is why an extra screw was included in subsequent Halo models. The new ones haven't broken from throwing, asides from perhaps the tip.
Neato eh? Interestingly enough, the knife was repaired and is currently sitting in Tony's office.
Alright, I'm out for now. Be back in an hour, so if you want me to respond, keep this thread bumped. Or, do a microtech general and I will find it.

You would be surprised. The place I work basically hires vets on the spot irrespective of experience. I am one of the few non military guys there. Most of them literally found out where we were (from ordering online) walked up to our loading dock and asked for an application. Be professional and willing to learn.
You would be surprised how tight knit the industry is. References are always helpful, and even if you don't start out building guns, you could work in shipping and receiving to start out and move up (that is what happened to me)

Yeah. It is all because of how they produce components, damn batch runs delay repairs by weeks if not months. And that is ASSUMING they are still producing the knife. I sent a damaged mini Halo into them for repair and they no longer produced it. I did get $2000 credit towards whatever I wanted, so that was cool.
Yeah, Benchmade is FAR larger and has a significant dedication to customer issues. Microtech lost theirs with MSAR. But they have had plenty of time to remedy that.
Hollow Grind rocks, but I usually buy on the tertiary market as I can get knives at half price. Look up microtech groups on facebook. Luke Duke is a great source.
