The most common 5.56 ammo can't be relied upon to provide satisfactory terminal ballistics at 100yds out of any barrel less than ~12.5" or so.
It really is a shame since short barreled guns are sexy as fuck, but if you actually want a gun that can kill at range, a short barreled 5.56 just isn't ideal.
I've become pretty disillusioned with my 10.5" build for this reason. It kinda makes me sad but it is all a part of the learning process. I'll probably sell both my 16" and my 10.5" guns eventually and build a 14.5 with a pinned muzzle device as well as 18" SPR type rifle.
It really is just a bummer that none of the standard military 5.56 can be trusted out of a 10.5"

Brb business buddy has a PVD shop and a proprietary low friction coating that goes on top of any surface treatment.
This is that coating on top of DLC. Unfortunately it doesn't make me better at taking pictures. I'll try to get a better pic in a second. It's crazy how low friction it is even without being polished.

The hammer itself isn't special, so much as specific. It has to be a certain height to defeat the firing pin safety. Also of note, the 416 can be placed in "safe" with the hammer forward. Not spectacularly useful, but an interesting deviation from standard.
