New to Long guns, mostly owned cheap revolvers and 9mm pistols. Was thinking of trying out an SKS since I hear they are cheap but reliable. Whats the best one to get?
>>
>>30425337
Get one made by Russians because those are the only real SKS
>>
With the prices getting as steep as they are for them today you're better off saving a little more for a good entry level ak or ar
>>
>>30425337
I own a Yugoslavian SKS. I have no problems with it. That being said, if you go for a brand-new (still covered in cosmoline and unused) Yugo they can reach the $400s depending on your location. So if you are looking for cheap find a Norinco one; and dont expect it to be beautiful.
>>
>>30425367
Not really worth it unless you're a Canadian. Rusky SKS is cheap as fuck up there.

>>30425542
SKS is still a good solid rifle. It has the rugged 200% and is generally simpler in design and construction for someone new to the mechanism. It is not a perfect beginner rifle, but is better for that than an AR or AK would be.
>>

>Not really worth it unless you're a Canadian. Rusky SKS is cheap as fuck up there.
Wrong
>>
Picking up an early Chink SKS with a blade bayonet on Friday for $300. It's in okay condition but I have yet to check the bore which is really the most important part.

Any reliable duckbill magazines? I plan on using the 10-rounder for hunting but a 20- or 30-round mag would be nice.
>>
Someone post that SKS buying guide pic

I like my yugo. It's a bit heavier than your ar or ak might be, but it's very reliable.
>>
>>30426039
Tapco 20's are the most reliable detachable mags. Not sure if you'll need to alter the stock on a norinco to take them though. If you don't want to alter it and mess up the original furniture you'll need to buy a new stock for it. Also keep in mind you'll need to make it 922 R compliant once you add a detachable mag. Never heard of the ATF nailing someone for noncompliance but its a possibility
>>
>>30425580
What do you mean? Plenty still below 200 dollars 40 minutes from me (in Toronto)
>>
>>30426039

Don't be retarded. Just keep the 10 round magazine and get clips.
>>
>>30426039
Duckbill mags are a pain in the ass, they're not really worth using. Annoying to swap out, never as reliable, and really throw off the ergos of the rifle. Buy a bulk pack or two of clips, half of them won't work but there so cheap it's still worth it.
>>30427294
922R is a joke.

This one? Last time someone asked this question I got shit on for posting this.

Just no, if you must make your sks higher capacity spend a unreasonable amount of money on one of those chink fixed 20 rounders, star or no star there's no real difference as far as I know
>>
>>30426039
>>30428529
This, just get a pouch for your stock that holds three loaded strippers and you should be good.
>>
>>30426039
stop being a faggot and get gud with stripper clips.

I want options and fun at the range. Answer the question I asked, not the one you read.

Get tested for AIDS, anon. And don't get an SKS, there are already too many faggots like yourself fucking up rifles with their tapco "enhancements".

10 round stripper clips are way more fun than boring old banana mags. Especially at the range where your objective tends to be not to blow through your ammo as quickly as possible.
>>
>>30425580

>>30428522
literally this.

Canadian tire in Kitchener/Guelph area sells the fuckers from $225-$180, and thats if i don't want to take an extra 15min drive to get to an actual gun store

I saw mosins that were more expensive.

Russian.
Aside from the ak mag, the sites have messed with, theres a slot for modern scope, and no bayonet.
>>
>>30425337
SKS's haven't been worth the price for 2-3 years.

Now you have to pay $400 just for a shitty chinsks

If you ever run into one consider a Yugoslavian build SKS, they are a great alternative to Roosky ones but are still excellent quality an tend to be over looked in the market.

I'd also say the same with Yugo Nuggets an AKs.
>>
>>30425337
Rule of thumb
East German (good luck with that) > Russian (Tula > Izhmash) > Sino Soviet >Yugoslavian > Norinco > Albanian

>yugoslavshit sks
>no chrome lined barrel
>useless grenade launcher
>fault-prone gas system
>ugly chubby muzzle
>goofy, cheap-looking bayonet
>needlessly heavier than russkies
>needlessly longer than russkies
>no sexy dark russkie wood
russkies are the only way to go.

if you must pick a cheaper alternative, better to grab a high quality chinker and maybe slap a nice plastic stock on it than get stuck with the vestige-laden, bulky yugo

Yeah I figured, Got happy when I saw cheap Albanian was, but I figured thats a 'get what you pay for' Type deal/
>>
>>30432806
I have the matching blade bayonet, just didn't have it attached in the photo.
>>
>>30433244
The only reason to ever buy an Albanian SKS is if you're a collector, they are without question the absolutely worse SKS on the market.

I don't just mean they're the worst of the bunch but still hold their own, SKS in general are very tough and simple rifles, there's tier of them but for the most part East Germans, Russians, Chinese, ext... Will all work well with the differences in quality being minimal, Albanians on the other hand are complete shit.
>>
>>30434345
yeah good to know. Like I said I kinda figured that was the case, but I still woulda been tempted if I couldn't find a better deal.
>>
Found a nice tutorial on putting an Ak mag to an sks, you should try it op. Just don't use tapco/
>>
>>30429583
Tapcos are the most reliable, but even they're finicky, and don't feed hollow points without doing the feed ramp mod to the gun.

They're also incapable of being used effectively without bolt modding, because they can only be removed from an open bolt if it's left standard.

If you want detachable magazines and a cheap rifle, get an AR.
