Righto. It's a thick gun too remember. I have a cheap-ass nylon shoulder holster from amazon and it's a pretty big chunk to have under your arm. It's like 1 and 1/4 inch thick or something. It's a good little gun, don't get me wrong. It's accurate as hell and really soft shooting. I have had a few malfunctions and releasing the mag is difficult. because the back side of the mag release pokes into my palm.
But I remember when I was searching around for a first carry gun trying like 4 different guns to hit this damn golf ball at an outdoor range and I couldn't hit it with anything but the Glock. That's what sold me. That and the jagged holes I'd make center mass on paper targets at 21 yards.

I think it's pretty great. At first I hated the trigger because it is heavy but I've gotten used to it. It totally disappears under anything, even tight shirts. The grip texture is really nice, and it doesn't recoil much more than a full size 9mm. Hitting the target can be a little harder though because the short sight radius doesn't allow for much error.

The carry size matches with the compact module and carry module, not subcompact. If you wanted to use the sub compact you'd basically have to buy an entire second gun. It's definitely worth it. It can usually be had for less than a glock, has a sweet da/sa trigger with a nice little reset, and overall functions extremely well.
The modularity isn't really a meme, by which I assume your asking if it's a gimmick, and it isn't. The modular nature is well designed and thought out to allow for a multiple caliber handgun and to tailor the gun to people who want to have a fullsize and carrying gun at the same time, but don't want to pay the two gun price.
Overall it's a well made and reliable handgun at a decent price that can fill nearly any role most people need a handgun for, and I highly recommend it as a range toy, home defense or carry piece.

I've carried this M&P9 Shield for two weeks and really like it so far. I'm 5'10'' / 175 and my girlfriend says it's unnoticeable unless my shirt is pulling against it.
The 7 round single-stack makes it dissapear and it feels great in my hand. I've put a little over 250 rounds through it without a problem (115gr Reloads from LAX, Remington Golden Saber 124, and Winchester Defense 147). I like the CZ compact and P01 and the Sigs all look great as well.

Found the comment thread on leddit, and after undergoing chemo, I determined that it makes no difference what you pair it to, only that it might be impractical like pic related, or that it might hamper reliability, in the case of a full length slide on sub compact frame, it exposes the recoil spring assembly.
I am planning tenatively right now to get a Carry size P320 as that seems to have the best slide compatibility, you can use it on the Carry size and lower from everything I've seen in the last 30 minutes or so of research I've done. Pic related is a Carry slide on subcompact grip. Again not mine, I'm starting to like the idea of the P320 the more I research it.

Makes sense. I highly recommend the carry personally. It's what I have and use for cc, for pretty much the same reasons you listed, as well as the reliability and the trigger.
