>Ausfag here, aren't weapons that look 'military' illegal in some states/territories here? Or was that just some retarded info I heard/read somewhere?

The police commissioners of each respective state and territory have the power to move a rifle selectively into cat D for it's appearance (see ruger precision rifle)

Kind of like banning asians for looking like jackie chan.

>>30417490
>That is their reason for no straight-pull AR's

Not quite, the reason troy PARs etc are banned is because they don't want people having easily accessible parts for their buried AR-15s.

>>30417564

The actual rationale is purely anti gun culture under a guise of public safety.

In the shooting cases I've seen one witness will say it was a shotgun one will say it was a pistol one will say it was semi-auto when in reality it was a .303 smle.

Nobody pays attention to the particular type of firearm when an active shooter situation arises.

However expect ruger precision rifles to eventually hit the shores is what im told.

People buy the .223 because of the larger, cheaper magazines.
30 round AR-15 magazines are like $150 and work fine. Plus they're relatively common.
10 round mags for the .308/.30-06 are ~$180 and apparently some of them are shit (never used them myself so idk).

Also .223 is far cheaper than .308.

>>
>>30418342
$150 AUD is what you expect as a minimum here. Sometimes they go for $120.
At gun shows and the like they're often $200+.

It's because basically nobody is allowed to import them in significant quantity, thus there's very limited supply, even for the small number of people who actually have a use for them.
>>
>>30418351
so theres no rules agaisnt their sales or transfer once inside, just the importations?
>>
>>30418356
They're banned in some states but if your state has no magazine capacity restrictions, then you can do whatever you want with them as they're completely unregulated items.

You cannot import them into the country though, not without special permission (which you wont get).

I've bought them from dealerships and through private sales and that's 100% legal. But I can't import them.

As far as I know:
Legal
>NT
>South Australia

Supposedly legal
>WA
>Victoria

Illegal
>Queensland
>New South Wales
>ACT

No Idea
>Tassie

As far as taking them interstate, they don't give a fuck where you got it, if it's illegal in that state you cannot have it in your possession while you are there. Regardless if you own it in your home state.

So I can travel from NT to SA with my 30 round mags and nobody cares. But if I take them into Queensland I need a higher category of licence to own them, thus making them illegal and I can be charged.
They also will not sell them to you in a ban state, even if you can own them in the state you're currently in.
For example as Territorian, i still cannot buy 30 round mags in Queensland, even though I can own them in my home state (even if I plan on taking them back to NT with me).
