Are there more effective grip customizations? Crosshatch, skate deck tape and intertube tape come to mind.

I think it is functional, but a lot of the home jobs people do I find distasteful. I use grip tape (silicon carbide or rubberized) on my guns since I want to be able to go back to stock for sale if I want/need to.

Professional grip work I can get down with since most tend to look like something you may find on a purpose driven factory gun.
>>
I would never stipple any of my glocks. It looks absolutely awful, and is a permanent modification to the frame. Also, when you remove material, then burn holes in it, it weakens the frame. I bet I could crush the grip on even the most professionally Stippled glock.
>>
>>30411570
I'd go with grip tape first, just to see if you like sandpaper on your gun. Then, if you like it, then you can get it stippled if you so choose.

Personally, I'd use grip tape in case I wanted to sell it.

>>30411638 speaks the truth, most hope stipple jobs are decent at best and shit at worst. If you want stippling, get it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
>>
>>30411570
Honestly, the extreme stippling that people do seems to be an example of "monkey see, monkey do" in regards to people kind of blindly following what they see operational operators doing. Extremely deep and pitted stippling on a range gun or even an HD gun is sort of a pointless feature. All it does is make the gun irreversibly altered in a haphazard way for no real gain.

It can look nice when done by a pro or somebody with a steady hand. >>30411677 And the stippling is much finer and less deep that most sodering iron DIY jobs.

People can do what they want, of course, it's their guns, but I personally would only reccomend stippling to somebody who has fired their gun a lot and given stippling a long hard think in terms of what they get out of it.

Personally, I find the default checkering in my Glock 26 to be so extreme that I've covered it with tape to protect my girlish hands.
>>
>>30411570
Grip tape is a better less permanent option, so when you do regret your decision, you can restore your gun to factory default
>>
>>30411678
Keep your feet dry kids.
>>
Like most things, it has its place. It can be functional depending on the gun, people that do the entire frame are retarded, aggressive stippling on carry guns is just gonna make it uncomfortable to carry if it's in contact with your skin, majority of home jobs are horrific, and a lot of people do it just to try to fit in with the tacticool crowd. I did do some stippling on a Ruger SR9 I have, my first pistol and I used it in classes I took which were usually outside in 90 degree weather and the factory checkering was very slick, especially when you're hands are sweaty. The stippling isn't the prettiest but it did make quite a bit of difference with gripping it. And it's a cheap gun so I wasn't concerned about reducing the value of it.
>>
>>30411678
Used to happen to me when I was in the military, although mine wasn't nearly that bad. Being in boots all day is really bad for your feet, especially in hot, humid climates.

Unless it's on a competition gun, it's pretty much one of the most useless things a mall ninja will do.
>>
>>30413029
This actually looks tasteful. Not professional grade, but does the job. I'd still go with grip tape, but it doesn't look like shit.

Why did you stipple the underside of the trigger guard?
>>
I like athletic tape. Athletic not grip.

>but tape gets sticky
Exactly. And when it wears out it's still cheap as fuck. On metal guns I like to stick it just on the frame and using the grip panels to hold the edges down since checkering costs extra on 1911 and beretta only does it right on 2-3 guns
>>
>>30413105
Spend just 2 days in the field and get oily, grubby hands. Have sweaty-as-fuck hands from 95 degree temps with 90% humidity. Then come back and tell me how awesome smooth polymer is to hold while shooting. It sounds like you're the mall ninja here.

Google my name, you jack wagon. Has no one ever taught you how to use creek sand and gravel to clean stuff? Don't tell me you were in desert with 90% humidity at 90º (heat index of 147º F).

You're full of shit and you're getting called on it. Outside of the USPSA Open Division, stippling is the domain of those who rice up a gun like an old honda - adding useless look fast do little accessories to compensate for a lack of trigger time and shooting skill.

Why don't you put another wing on the back of that 12 valve 12 year old stock motor civic. That will make it look faster.

Stippling is a joke, even a joke in competition circles. It's a no performance enhancing mod. The time you spend to stipple yourself would be better spent on dry firing or some live trigger time. If you're foolish enough to pay someone to do it for you, that money would be better spent on ammo or lane fees (if you're paying those)

But hey, a fool and his money are soon parted. Stippling is a great way to take dollars from fools.

Partially for a bit of grip for the support hand, partially for indexing, it's not really vital to anything but it doesn't inconvenience anything.
Second SR I did for a buddy I sanded down the stock diamond pattern beforehand and it came out quite a bit cleaner.

its a fucking meme.
I don't know who started it, but I think whoever did it was out to troll the fuck out of everyone else who really didn't use their guns at all.
I don't use my guns that much I'll admit that, but I use the fuck out of my knives for work on a daily basis.
I see these faggots doing that "sand under the clip" on cold steel knives and I just laugh. Its pretty obvious that they actually don't use their knives AT ALL, because I have owned numerous voyagers and never had to do that shit.
Same shit with grip tape. Its for clowns that want to feel special and waste money. It it actually did anything important, you'd see cops or military use it, or just have it come that way out of the factory.

I don't understand forward cocking serrations. When you already have serrations on the rear of the slide, why would you want another set in between the chamber and barrel? Is it just something people like to have to be special or something? It's not like the rear ones are going to fail or blowout.

>>
>>30415514
>don't know who started it,
Competition shooters decades ago. Back then it was frame checkering on 1911s and the ubiquitous checkered wood grips that every pistol had, aside from some revolvers. Eventually it hit polymer guns because you can't just swap grip panels. It has legitimate use in competition, everything is an outgrowth like many other modifications.

>Same shit with grip tape. Its for clowns that want to feel special and waste money. It it actually did anything important, you'd see cops or military use it

Have you never seen police with talon grips, wrap arounds or sleeves? People have used rubber bands to do the same thing. People have different hands than you do.

>or just have it come that way out of the factory.
You mean like the Glock RTF frames, the M&P CORE, Every XD, the P30, and every custom 1911? At the end of the day it's the same principle, that being a more secure grip. It make be fuck ugly when some asshole with a soldering iron does it, but it's not useless, you just don't like it.

My main summer carry is an M&P40c. I found the small grip slick when wet. Advantage having swappable backstraps is I can always revert to stock for the price of an insert.

The pattern is roughly octopus tentacle. An no, not nip porn either. Very tractable. My holster has leather between it and me. N82 Pro.

Tire intertube works great for not having the gun slide in your hand when it gets sweaty and I've been using it for about 5 years now on various guns. First tried skateboard tape yesterday to add texture where my left hand would go (as the frame on most guns is just smooth there) and the difference in muzzle flip was night and day.

I stippled my g19 frame because I woke up one morning and felt like it. I wanted to make the major contact points more aggressive and it definitely helps in that regard. Makes shooting in wet ass Florida with my perma clammy hands nicer than when it was stock.

That being said I wouldn't do it again. It's not very aesthetic and I'd probably go with skate tape in the future
