Why does everyone here (especially anon's you can tell have never served in any branch) hate on the Marine Corps?

>Effective infantry
>Gets as much done if not more than the army with less
>lots of morale
>heavy emphasis on physical fitness

It seems they're a very effective fighting force, not to mention train some very effective marksmen.

What if I told you the Marine Corps so called superiority was only a result of selective reporting and a mass delusion created by advertising geniuses 100 years ago?

No, you're thinking of E5 and up, people who have dedicated their lives to actually being Marines. E4 and below, generally, hate life and the Corps in particular.

This statement does not apply to people fresh out of Boot. They're still young and retarded.
>>
>>30403610
First of, Carlos was an absolute beast at shooting before he went in.

Secondly, Marines a shit. Seriously, they work harder, get paid less, and think they're better tha everyone else when they're not. Its like all they recruit are jocks straight out of highschool or gang bangers. They train harder, sure. But for what? The Army's role? They should be focused on amphibious assaults and water based engagements instead of land warfare like the Army. They're the Navy's army bitch. They do everything like the Army, except get the green weenie and play "find the shit'ite with the AK". They dont do what they were created for anymore, and that's why everyone shits on them.

Also, did I mention they're complete douche canoes?
>>
>>30404085

Is there any other branch whose mythos is either entirely fabricated or significantly deviant from the truth?
>>

>>
>>30403610
>Gets as much done if not more than the army with less

It's their attitude and lack of humility. See how you claim they do more than the army. All they are is an infantry corps for the navy. The army does far more than the marines will ever do. The marines do a good job at what they do, but they can never do what the army does.
>>
>>30404172
Airborne is totally fucking useless
>>
>>30404172
All of them to some degree. But that misses the point. The Marines, more than any other branch, represent America as a nation. That's why the iconography is so important. It's why everything has a creation myth to it (like the 7 belt loops). The Marines are the physical manifestation of America itself and try to present themselves as such.
>>
>>30403610

I don't think anyone has a problem with marines as individuals.

Ass holes are everywhere, but if there's an asshole the "served," there's a 90% chance he was a marine.

Also, the marine corps is the most entitled branch desu
>>
>Effective infantry
>Gets as much done if not more than the army with less

That's why.
>>
>>30404242
Well the Marines are technically a part of the Navy, but they go hand in hand with my statement, or at least did for the first 100ish years of American history. The Army, if due to nothing else than being a land force, didn't do much beyond tame the frontiers. They didn't go off to foreign lands to fight for America. They sat at home, as a small force, and fought Indians.

And you should note that this is just a generalization of what the average person knows about history. The truth is far more nuanced, I know. But that is the popular perception. Because the Marines went wherever the Navy went, and did the bloody business of war all around the world more often than the Army, you get a built in history and mythos.

I believe it's kept around as part of the plans for major war in Europe. They're fast-deployable even if the actual parachute capabilities aren't used. So 82 is sort of like the force that would be sent to relieve 173rd if Russia/USSR started to steamroll Europe. Because /k/ never leaves their house and only sees the marine corps as a branch 100% filled with motard e1's.

There's equally shit people in the army but you can never stop seeing the circlejerking over rangers.

Plus, it's easier to fit in with /k/ if you join the marine hate train, don't forget to hate on navy seals. At the end of the day, /k/'s opinion doesn't matter. It just doesn't. Get the average anon on here to go to marine bootcamp and they'll cry like bitches. There's many humble and famous marines but nooooooo you don't ever mention them because it doesn't fit your narrative.
>>
>>30404565
It's not a problem with individual Marines. It's a problem with the Corps.
The Corps argues for its own piece of the pie in every action and every conflict, and then consistently fails to perform--yet will gladly take up all the press coverage, slandering the Army all along the way. It is a redundant organization with an overblown sense of self-worth, which should never have grown past the Navy's equivalent of Security Forces.

Infantry Marine here(0351). Yes, we're often a belligerent bunch of animals. We believe we're better than anyone save the SpecOps community. We have a culture of violence and disregard for human life. Weakness of any sort is openly ridiculed, especially by your friends. And I love it. It's a legitmate warrior culture. As a result, when we go to war, we're some vicious, sadistic, bloodthirsty motherfuckers(see Fallujah, Ramadi, Tarawa, Belleau Wood, ect). I'd think you'd rest easy knowing that's the sort of men that defend freedom. Granted, yes, a lot of guys don't know when to flip the switch and act like a civilized person when around civilians. So yeah, we've quite fairly earned every negative stereotype about us. Sorry about that. Don't expect us to change, though.

Marines account for 4% of the total DoD budget so basically you get an entire branch on the cheap. Roughly ~210,000 personnel counting reserves and AD.

Army counts for 38% and has more than 5 times the amount of budget and personnel (counting both reserves and Guard). Roughly ~1m+.

Seems like a pretty good deal to keep around an effective, if underfunded and poorly utilized, branch that outnumbers most first world nations entire armed forces.
>>
>>30409301

They're the biggest waste of money, period.

Everything they do can be done by the other 3. the marines are the not-so-well-disguised program to get society's worst fuck ups.

What's worse is that the marines dont know how to allocate or manage their funds correctly. they keep asking for bullshit like 70 more helis than they actually need and their own version of the F-35 (which ironically is the only part of that project going well), but can't ever explain why they need them. They don't need to exist but unfortunately its the best cannon fodder magnet the US has come up with yet.

Oh and everyone hates marines because they come back as self entilted, arrogant cry babies that fake being tough like the faggot in the video. It astounds me that somehow they always come back dumber, with a shit attitude, and can never shut up about their deployment. Whats worse is that they bitch all the time when they don't get what they think they're entitled to and cause havoc regularly at the VA or at some bar or at an Applebees.

Marine corps culture is also garbage; it gives every pog and boot the idea that they're tougher than everyone else when in reality they're not.

And the reason most of these guys are this way is because they were never introduced to the adult working world since a lot of them sign up as kids right after high school, so they think like kids do and act like one too when they get out. It's even worse when you get these people that bum around in their 20's then join and come back like this.
>>
>>30409399

It would be, and regardless of the political implications, most first world and even third world nations have some kind of Naval Infantry or Marine Corps. The Marines are kept around for the same reason we still have Airborne, Air Assault, anti-tank infantry, ect... They might be somewhat useless or under utilized now, but we could have a use for them in the future.

I'm sure that extra 40 billion could probably be used on something else but the idea that the Marines are somehow hurting the effectiveness of the US military because of the budget it pants-on-head retarded.

Also, again, this is 4% of the total budget to have a relatively well equipped and trained 4th branch that outnumbers most countries entire military. Seems like a small price to pay.

Wow, what a pile of shit-post.

Your argument is that Marines are annoying because they are proud of what they do, what they are part of, and that they feel that they are on average tougher then people in the Air Force?

They are, by any large, tougher then the Air Force and on top of that if your friend wanted to go to combat then OF COURSE he isn't going to join the Air Force and why would you give him shit for that?

Most people that join the Marine Corps (combat arms MOSes) during a time of war know they want to go to war, and most of them ended up doing just that.

And (though I will always defend the fact that the infantry contains some of the absolute most intelligent people in the entire military for reasons I won't go into right now, while also acknowledging their are many unintelligent infantryman) are you suggesting that a man that was born without the level of intelligence you have laid out as appropriate (for what, I don't know) that they can not show courage in battle or lay their lives down for their brothers? A man that doesn't pass whatever intelligence-gate you are putting up for them doesn't deserve the opportunity to fight and be part of a brotherhood (that, though it may 'annoy' you, absolutely exists and has from the beginning of time)?

And regarding your 'their pride is annoying' things, are you just completely ignorant of military history, strategy, and tactics? Are you under the impression that Esprit de Corps is not an ESSENTIAL part of a units battle readiness? You would rather reduce a combat-arms units fighting ability because the 'propaganda annoys you'?

What the fuck am I even reading?
>>
>>30410617

>So you went to the range twice a year between the age 18-22, please tell me more expert.

If he is in the infantry the amount of range-time he has is far, far, FAR more then that.

Also, in the Marine Corps 'the range' is a specific thing; it is weapons qualifications and marksmanship and yes, it is a rare thing. But if someone says 'I had to go to the range this quarter' or whatever, and they are a Marine, they are talking about a specific thing, not that they only live-fire trained once that quarter.

The Marine Corps is the only branch that has this type of specifically-marksmanship training as part of their training and the terms surrounding it could confuse the situation.

>Proving my point even more

>>
>>30410503
Literally, scientifically tested, kind of false.

We get it, the army lied to you so they could get numbers. We get it, when you were in the green zone some dirty marine who stank to high heaven bumped into you at the chow hall as he stuffed his pockets with rip its before heading back on patrol. We get it, you're pissed because you don't see them do any work.

Well, you'd know the shit you spewed was bullshit if you had ever left the wire. And this ain't even "hurr durr, Marines are better." This is just a fact. Every unit, regardless of branch, is a coin toss on if they'll be worth a damn. I worked with some Army units that made me wonder how the fuck do they remember to breathe. I worked with some that were shit hot and I'd trust them to have my back any day. And then I got out and into the civilian world. And you know what? It's the god damn same in that respect. Some people will be utter fuck ups and some will be god damn avatars of efficiency and good work ethic.

As for the Marine corps, the shit IS a propaganda tool. We could turn over the responsibilities over to the army and give them the Marine corps budget and they'd get the job done for about twice the cost and slightly higher casualties, but it would get done all the same. The thing is, on average, I'd take a marine infantryman over an army one due to mindest, training and skills learned. And god damn if we don't have the sexiest uniforms.

I just sat there two rows behind, Iraq/Afghan Infantry vet stewing in silent rage. I've never gotten a single tattoo and wanted to slap that dumb cunt for trying to represent us as a whole. Dumb cunt bitch pog. But I say nothing because I never mention my vet status at all.

Also my dad got into the Navy with neither a GED or a highschool diploma. After serving he tried to go to university on the GI bill, and that's when they finally figured out that never graduated highschool. Had to get a GED after leaving the navy so that he could use the GI bill.

I never really understood why people use this as an example. It doesn't make any sense.

The options for the allies at the time were:

>pull at least 100,000 troops from the pacific theater to contribute to a single landing, (which turned out to be nearly unopposed on the large scale of things thanks to the massive disinformation campaign) and then send them back to the pacific.
or
>train up a handful of divisions and ranger battalions already stationed in Europe in the basics of amphibious warfare using the schools of other current allied nations stationed in Europe.

basically this. the actual history of *why* the USMC exists is pretty fucking fascinating. shortest possible way to put it

>be new USA
>have Continental Army kick out Brits
>have good relations with major powers, Natives mostly dead by disease, only need a few hundred men with rifles to defend against them or the Mehicans
>keep the Army trimmed down af
>however, need small force to fuck around the Carribean for United Fruit and open Japan for dat burgeoning arms market

Basically that's the first phase of the Marines, literally Colonial Marines that keep the xenos down and us rich, open up the isolated ones for new markets

>WW1, Yurop goes to shit, Army is shit, Marines only experienced force around, have to build entire military-industrial system around the knowledge, and thus desires, of the Marine Corp institution, which as an experienced force that kills xenos and not Yanks/Dixies is respected and has prestige recognised by all in the political and business scenes

This right here, gents.

Most Marines I've met are alright people. Some of those are a little too motivated in my opinion, but I suspect the latter half of their time in will take care of that.

I guess they have an arguably intense boot camp, along with a penchant for doing things 'their' way, but outside of that, it's really just the mythos propagating the prestige that makes them so impressive in the eyes of so many.

The motards get pretty fucking annoying, though, and in that respect, it's easy to see why so many enjoy cutting them down a few notches when they get the chance.
